I had it happen to me on my previous work. I was entering the training room and the moment I pushed the door open, I heard unintelligible whispers on my right ear. The room was empty and there was only a wall on my right side. Unfortunately, I had to get my bag located on the farthest end of the room. I had no choice but to ignore and pretend I didn't hear anything while I grab my bag, silently praying until I left the room.

That whispering happened to me when I was at the hospital overnight. I was sleeping then woke up to that, I thought it was the nurses. Then I had my foot pulled. And one day I had someone scream in my face, help me, I was also sleeping at the time.

My husband grew up in the central valley here in California and they have irrigation canals all over the place. They are not sewers, but they are open water ways where glass and dead cows have been found. When my husband was a kid many of the kids went swimming in the canals. It bothered his parents so much they built a swimming pool but of course they still went in the canals.

Another night i woke to turn over and heard a scurrying across the floor toward the door, as if something was by my bed and i moved and disturbed it. I got a few more ...crazy house i used to live in.
