That’s not surprising, in very slightest. People who’s only experiences is “cookie cutter music”, have no knowledge in audio/music design. I mean, the biggest reason why video game music sounds so much better is the atmosphere the creators of games put with the music that you carry with you once you have played those games. Like the Skyrim epic battle music that gives you the feeling of being in some epic fantasy battle.

What a LOT of people forget is that in games and movies the soundtrack is the unseen character that accentuates the mood of the situation. Also anyone who thinks soundtracks are not music they need to look at Guardians of the Galaxy. Both the movies and game have amazing music throughout and in the game there is some awesome Anthemic Music! Final Countdown anyone????

I love metal and I listen to a lot of metal that has been made post 80's/90's. I don't like the soundtrack to the new Doom games all that much because to me they're too industrial and djent-like in nature. The guitars are present but seem to be hidden in the mix behind a wall of industrial sounds. And I think it's biggest flaw is that there's nothing super catchy in the songs the way the the old games soundtracks were. Even the remixed tracks to me don't stand out. It's not a bad soundtrack by any means as it does set a mood, but I could never see myself listening to it on it's own for those reasons. I really want to like it more, but it's just not my style of metal.

Music is an amazing thing especially how it gets implemented into games or movies. It can 1. Build-up tension by giving you a sense of dread in anticipation of something bad happening. 2. Empower you to keep going. 3. Bring feelings of sadness. If there is something missing from this list please add to it. The soundtracks that come to mind for me was "Ori and the Blind Forest" "Doom Eternal" "Wolfenstein Old Blood" "Halo" "F.E.A.R." and "Alien Isolation" being excellent soundtracks that are most certainly works of art that does a good job bringing these emotions out. So to the idiot that said that about video game music, to hell with you.

There is no way that person just thought that some shitty, brain dead, auto tuned, social media dead zone like Brittany Spears is a better selection of music than the works of C418 that made our childhoods and relax our adulthood, or Mick Gordon who’s work motivates many to push on, and others to vibe. Cheap pop pumped out by the weekly vs a game ODST that took dozens of people months to prepare the first soundtrack for a game! Pop, hip hop and even most rap can’t even begin to compare to the emotional setting game soundtracks set up. Plus if your going to complain “but those genres are more than a sick beat you listen to” can go skrew themselves. Primates have the natural tendency to innovate with objects of nature to create sounds and spend hours across days practicing, even the monkeys and lesser apes put greater passion into music than your average pop singer. Y'know I heard a rumor once that Ace Combat 7's release was delayed 6 months, just so the composer could write a truly fitting boss theme for the Arsenal Bird in it's second to last mission, if that just so happens to be true, there's no doubt it was worth it. So no, Video Game soundtracks are not these Half-Assed things people slap together for no reason at all, and Doom's Soundtrack is probably far more moving than the garbage that Thot probably listens to.

The music from Halo, Valiant Hearts Great War, Dark Souls, and Hollow Knight, are literally the most beautiful and emotional music I’ve ever heard. I think because you can’t rely on lyrics the music itself has to tell a story and feel meaningful.

When i was younger i didn't really mind the kind of music i listened to, but when i started playing videogames i kept changing my music tastes: - i started loving dubstep thanks to Geometry Dash and JSAB - i switched to another kind of music with Black Mesa - i loved TF2 songs even more than ever - i fell in love with Doom music even way before i started playing the game... The list goes on and on, and i won't care what the others say! I like music that happends to be in a game? Do i enjoy Doom music or songs that are used in GD? I would answer: "Yeah, so what?"

As a music producer I wholeheartedly agree. The modern day music industry has no substance and no emotion anymore. It all sounds the same and talks about the same things over and over again. Either crying over a break up, wanting to get laid, or being dead inside. Videogame music has always had a real driven purpose

True, soundtracks are made for setting a mood. In books, there are no soundtracks, descriptions set the mood. Mood is when an article causes feeling to an audience which describes things better. Soundtracks make games better, otherwise it will look lifeless and boring. Even the best games have soundtracks, this includes Celeste, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and a few more.

Elena siegman. If you don’t know the name she’s the singer to a lot of the zombies ee songs. 115 lullaby for a deadman archangel poaradolia. She has a really good range as well. In paradolia she can go from singing a high soft melody to literally screaming in this scary ass menacing voice. She is a fucking badass.

We've had loads of video games with fully orchestrated soundtracks. As in, they recorded an actual live orchestra. How is that not "real" music? Hell, I'm pretty sure the mother series (and almost certainly other games) got its music on vinyl! Btw if anyone wants a great ost, check out a hat in time. That boss music hits HARD.

I saw a RU-vid video half-a-year or a year ago (or whatever) that said, "Modern music sucks and I can prove it." I actually don't care too much the premise of the question, but I was very much intrigued at the possibility of someone proving what is essentially an opinion assertion. The narrator explained two major points: 1 - that today's music is more simplistic in both the complexity and number of chords.... and 2 - that 6-out-of-the-top-10 songs, or 40 out of the top 50, or something like that, was written by the same five individuals. There are distinct music writers who compose the tune and lyrics, then hunt for a particular artist to perform it. Because of this, you end up with a variety of performers all working off of the creation of a small number of writers.... _so the music ends up sounding kind of similar._ - I mention that, because the woman likes Brittney Spears, which... hey, to each their own... but Brittney Spears was very much a *performer,* and not a *writer.* So this woman is *really* saying that she liked someone else's music, as performed by Brittney Spears. Again, that's fine, but she's gobbling up musical pap without even knowing that this is what she's doing. _She just ate the bologna of musical meat._

It’s not just regular pop music that’s taken a dive. Even previously underground genres like jungle/drum n bass and trance have both taken dives. In the year 2000 Drum’n’bass was about big epic and dark beats. It had purpose, it was badass. Now it’s been gentrified and it’s just pop with a different beat. Same with trance. It was upbeat fun dance music that didn’t pretend it needed to mean something, it just was something. It accepted something about itself that pop couldn’t. Now it is basically pop as well. I could also make the case about breakbeat, but breakbeat is kind of of dead at this point… It’s very sad as an underground electronic music fan to see these genres get almost completely gentrified into the mainstream. There are still good so the occasionally coming from these genres, but most are garbage

I'm almost 25 now and I still think that the Kingdom Hearts 2 soundtrack is some of the best recorded music of all time. It blew me away when I first heard it as a kid and it still blows me away now, especially being someone that also writes music. It's got a full damn symphony orchestra for basically every track! If someone wants to try to argue that it isn't music then they're just not worth the time of day imo

Josh Mancell, Stewart Copeland, and the late Koichi Sugiyama are my favorite musical artists. For their work in Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter, Spyro the Dragon, and Dragon Quest respectively. Each of them also has done some soundtracks for film and TV as well.

Honestly, I prefer the DOOM 2016 soundtrack. There is actual musical tone in all of the songs in the track, meanwhile DOOM Eternal relied really heavily on the "sound" idea. HOWEVER, I do NOT believe it is bad for the game. In fact, to have music that sounds like hellish noise FITS the game. but in terms of what I would load on my music app and just sit to listen to? DOOM 2016 for sure. it's catchier.

People like this make me laugh, they think we care about their opinions. I think that if no one validated them or acknowledged them in some way, shape, or form they would have a meltdown. I know for a fact that the Doom, Halo, (ANY) Final Fantasy, Skyrim, and so many more soundtracks are way better than that modern crap she calls pop is. Old pop is decent music like any any of the older generation of music in any genre, this new crap, same with rock, a lot of metal, country and hip hop/rap, and this new genre I have since dubbed zennnial beach bonfire music (typically played with acoustic guitars, ukeles and has at this point a now cliche upbeat and positive attitude about life set of lyrics.) They all sound the same. I can tell older artists apart by their sound, not modern musicians though, I can't tell one artist from the next. But I don't ridicule anyone who listens to that crap, I just let them listen to their crappy music while I enjoy the good stuff.

I love video game, and some movie, OSTs. I have From Soft's Armored Core on disc (downloaded to mine phone), with some of my favorite tracks being "Integrity", "The Encounter World", "We still have a long way to go", ETC. And as for movies, I have most of !989's Gunhed OST. Great for setting "the mood" for the arts and crafts I do. (Look up "pre production" or the trailer on youtube for what is essentially mixes the two "main themes" in the OST itself") Both "Inside the Dome" make good "stealth" or "unease" tracks. Do have a good day.
