Part 27: The Nature of duty 45 Days before the Fall of Stromguard, Tertiary Shelter "How did it come to this, brother?" He'd found himself asking that question a lot in his mind, but as Lord-Captain Deion overlooked the fire that was approaching, the question finally became spoken. Varathiel simply shook his head. The answer seemed so clear to him. "What is our duty, brother?" A weary smile formed on Deion's lips as the question was asked. It was an old Litany, one repeated by the Chaplains on the eve of battle, over and over again. "To serve the Emperor's Will." And what is His Will?" "That we fight and die." "And what is death?" "Our duty." Varathiel nodded, looking back outside to the flames that were slowly coming closer. "There you have it. We fight and die, this is simply death catching up to us." Deion's eyes showed less certainty. To him it felt more as if they had missed something. It must have been clear that the doubts were toying with his mind, because after a while Varathiel spoke again. "Do you mourn our brothers, young one?" He thought about it for a while before answering. "Do not all of us mourn the dead?" "Yes, we do. Would you, if you could, go back and change how they died?" "In a heartbeat, Chaplain. If I could save even one of them, I would." Varathiel smiled, his voice had an amused tone when he spoke next. "I suppose so, yes. That would be the answer that many of us would give. We fail to consider one thing though: would they want us to? They fell in the line of duty, doing the chapter proud. What more could they ask for?" It remained silent for a while, before the Chaplain continued, his tone now changing to that of someone who was giving a lecture. "That is how it has come to this, why so many of us give their lives for this city, why so many more are still to give their life in this city. We are here to do the chapter proud, to die for our duty. What more could we ask for?" A day later those words still rung in Deion's head, as he joined the lines with his 3rd company. Every time his sword rose and fell, every time he slashed, stabbed or cut, he thought of those words. He had no answer to the question. They had been made and raised for this purpose. Once he had joined the battle raging for the shelter, it all became so clear to him. He almost laughed at himself for ever doubting. Even as several of his brothers fell around him, he fought on without doubt. Duty was all they had left, all they had ever had, and by the Throne he would do his. Even if that meant taking a moment away from the battle to help one of his brothers move on, kneeling in a pool of blood. Even as the man was dying, he was still searching for his weapons, still trying to fight on. Deion couldn't find them, so he instead drew his own knife and placed it in the man's hand. That seemed to give him some peace. Deion sat there and watched the light fade from his brother's eyes. Varathiel had come to the battle as well, moving from body to body, making sure the spirits of the dead could move on. Deion had not noticed the Chaplain approach, until the man's hand touched his shoulder. The Lord of the 3rd simply got up and walked back to the fight. It was the only way they had learned to deal with their grief. They let it fuell their rage and unleashed it in battle. The rage of the 3rd Lord-Captain was a sight to behold. He had always been a skilled swordsman, he would not have been where he was if he had not been. But he had never killed with such fervour before. As the day came to a close, all that was left of the enemy were the bodies they left in their retreat. The Lord of the 3rd still walked the battlefield, even as the bodies around him were burned. Even through the crackling of fire and the orders being yelled around, his mind remained absent, as if he were alone with his thoughts. He had made a decision during the battle, when he had helped his brother find peace. He would not doubt his duty again. The spirits would always call more of his brothers to their side, grief followed naturally to that loss. The only way to avoid that would be to abandon their duty, abandon humanity. He was not willing to do that. So Lord-Captain Deion steeled himself for the days to come. They would be days of duty and grief. He wouldn't have it any other way.

Magnificent. Everytime I listen to this, I got this power inside me that say's, This is it, The time to confess, Have the courage to finally confess, confess your love to the one next to you, who has been there all this time. but, once the music ends, the feeling goes away with it, Maybe it was not real, maybe it just the music ? I may never know, I may never know...
I’m thinking I could put this as background music to a mundane drone video of raw acreage or maybe even a freaking warehouse and it would bring people to tears!
