I once recorded a series of videos in a batch only to realise at the end that my zoom recorder's card was full and I had to use the camera audio instead. I wish RU-vid gurus would show a range of ways to perform that work. Yes high energy works for a young audience but there’s lots of examples where slower paced works too. But we wouldn’t know it if only looking to gurus for advice. Content is more important than high energy in most cases.
@SageandStoneHomestead
@SageandStoneHomestead Год назад
High engery is not what a lot of people are on RU-vid for. I find it exhausting especially when it just doesn't fit. There are channels that I used to watch that I can't anymore because the pace induces anxiety. A peaceful morning garden tour doesnt work with the same kind of energy as this video for example.
@ThatNateBlack
@ThatNateBlack Год назад
Really good point! High energy isn’t the only factor to measure interesting personality or delivery. I’ve found it to be valuable for many channels, but it’s definitely not the first thing for a lot of others. (And anxiety? I’m looking at YOU MrBeast 😂)
@DarthShadie
@DarthShadie Год назад
This is why I have some videos where I give high energy, and some where I'm more mellow. I get drained fast, and some videos do excite me for energy because of the content, others are more lore base and require a more normal tone. It balances energy out better.
@mistydawnfarm
@mistydawnfarm Год назад
Exactly! My followers often comment that it’s the peaceful feeling and calm presence that they like the most. I think a lot has to do with the niche you’re in..
@JueriHaan
@JueriHaan Год назад
His main point isn’t necessarily to have higher energy in videos, but to be a more authentic and better version of yourself (which sometimes means giving what feels like 110% but is seen as 90% on camera). A great analogy for this situation is presenting yourself to someone new versus knowing someone for a few years. You *might* have higher energy around someone you know, but you are definitely more authentically yourself without a mask. The creators at 2:20 and 8:05 for example aren’t necessarily just higher energy. We see an openness to embrace aspects of themselves on camera, and much of their personality from their first video is still carried with them to their recent videos.
@TheBetterAdultProject
@TheBetterAdultProject Год назад
When I think of anxiety inducing, I think of Alex Hormozi. Can't watch his videos anymore because of the pace. I wonder if this fast pace that's popular right now is because of TikTok and other short-form content messing with people's attention spans. I think we might see a move away from this trend on RU-vid as more people get sick of it. 🤔

0:50 Hello I am here to disgust you! Haha no but in all seriousness. This is a topic I spent a tons of thoughts on because I was diagnosed with Aspergers a few years ago and that unfortunately comes with communication struggles. Especially in women it's often undiagnosed for longer because women are better in coping with it and "pretend" everything is okay. So switching into the "creator mode" is something I do fairly easy these days. But it doesnt come without consequences. I cant do on cam content because its too exhausting and after making videos or doing streams my brain is basically pudding.

I think this can be really a personal thing about what we think is engaging rather than sometimes a bit much. We need to be ok with that. We can’t all be everyone’s cup of tea. I know sometimes I can be too loud and bouncy for some people and other times people love it. So it’s good that you broke it down, you didn’t say she was engaging because she was bubbly or moved a lot, you broke it down to movement but returning eye contact etc. It’s not easy to find your natural state on camera 😊, it takes time

Just gave a like. This really spoke to me!! in my industry, everything just seems so fake for lack of better words. Like I want to turn off videos from people in my niche. So what does that say about it? I actually started being a lot more casual talking in my shorts when I make outfits. And my views and followers have been increasing. I’m trying to be more myself and find myself. I’m just not a person that’s super sarcastic. I’m a mom of four under 7 and I’m gonna have a fifth child in five weeks. So I don’t have the energy to be funny etc . It’s been interesting trying to find ways to make myself stand out. I’m almost 2 years in and sometimes it gets really hard. Nate, thanks so much for this! I received a negative comment on one of my videos recently, which was to the effect of, "I'm afraid your channel will never take off because your personality is extremely unpleasant, condescending, off-putting and arrogant." After wondering why someone would take time out of their busy day to tell a complete stranger something like that, I put it behind me but I can't help but have a nagging fear about how I come across on camera. You've confirmed here, with evidence, what I have originally thought just on intuition, that "be yourself, only more so" is the way to go. Thanks for the boost in confidence.

What i love about myself 🤔 i do know im good at making others laugh. What i dont? That I'm overly critical and a perfectionist. I'm guilty of being my own worst critic! I look at other channels and beat myself over it, but then I stop and ask myself, "why did I make this channel in the first place?" To make people laugh. I also stop and remind myself that I have made a lot of people laugh, and that we're all different on how we approach things. I can learn from others but it's best to be myself and find my own unique style 😊

This realization is actually what got me to start streaming a couple of years ago. I had seen an early video of a creator and noticed how awkward they were and realized that the only way you stop being awkward (which is what I really, really wanted for myself at that point) is practicing letting yourself just be yourself! And if I compare myself on camera now to how I was 2 years ago, yeah, it totally makes a difference.

And sometimes that’s all you need to do when you know the Contant is good. You just need to get some attention so people even click in the first place or they will never know what you’re like.

It's funny, because until now I was standing on the other side of the camera and trying to relax the person being photographed 🤣

i hate channels that have too much energy, they drive me crazy, it comes of so fake and obnoxious and i just turn the video off instantly, can't stand it. i might not have enough energy but man i can't be that guy lol..

I love how this vid applies to Nate himself so much, haha. I feel like he's found so much more of his own personality and style since he's independent ^^ Keep up the great work!

For some of us, it's like a tough 30 step process and for others they can get there pretty quickly because they are already confident, outspoken and dynamic. Good stuff!

It still comes down to the RU-vid algorhythm lottery. I cannot be more me and yet nothing happens. Guess my age counts against me.

It's gesticulating: use gestures, especially dramatic ones, instead of speaking or to emphasize one's words. "they were shouting and gesticulating frantically at drivers who did not slow down". You almost said it right. Good word for what you were explaining, correct use just bad pronunciation.

I enjoyed watching this video but to be completely honest… I’m uncertain about the action items. Yes, you said to be more open and comfortable with myself… and to show my interest in what the video is about… but how do I physically do that? I understand your comments about being higher energy but the former suggestions… I’m still uncertain about how to put that into action.

In the analytics section, it said that there was a content shortage for shorts on “Toddler trucks and cars learning” and “real trucks for toddlers”, so I’m working on making a short for each letter of the alphabet with vehicles that start with that letter. It’s not really taking off like I hoped, though. I’m also trying to watch all of your videos and apply things to my channel. All of that will obviously take longer than a week. 😂 I like the energy that I bring. I like that I don’t feel the need to do my hair, makeup, or wear styling clothes in my videos. I like my passion and dedication. I don’t like how I hyper focus and become grouchy when interrupted. I don’t like how I let a lot of things go by the wayside because I’m so fixated on creating content. I don’t like how bad I am at animation, editing, etc. My favorite part about me is my love for learning, I just wish I was better at applying what I learn. Thanks again for your helpful videos! I hope I can get a consultation with you one day (in the distant future since I can’t currently afford it and you have no openings anyway, lol.)

You aren't alone for sure. I neglect stuff when overly focused and I too dislike my editing skills. I do kids cartoons also (but on a different channel)
