I actually liked Peter's voice cracks because it sounds more like Ernie from Sesame Street and it brings the point up that Rod and Nicky are an "unofficial" Bert and Ernie parody.
This is actually my favorite version of this that I've seen floating around so far. Barrett is so expressive through Rod and even though Nicky's voice isn't the best I've heard, his puppeteer has flawless comedic timing. I love watching this!
The guy performing Nicky here is Peter Linz. Linz is also known for his work on such shows as Bear in the Big Blue House, Between the Lions, It's a Big Big World, Blue's Room, Lomax the Hound of Music, The Puzzle Place, and Sesame Street, and he performs Walter from The Muppets.
I love how the puppetier (sp?) does all the facial expressions the puppet can't make. It's such an ingenious blend of reality and whimsy. And how Nicky starts dancing at the end . . . this is so cute. I wanna see it (i haven't, but i love it as much as if i have . . .) ROD/NICKY PWNS!!!!!!! Sorry -- no one else was saying it, so I thought I should.
The concept behind this musical and the staging is so bold, clever and it is well written. this number is full of delightful humor, and it has a catchy a tune. It screams winner all the way now but I would never want to sell this concept to investors, I bet whoever did, got the rush out of a lot of offices.
Rod's puppeteer is really good. I think people are distracted from the puppet since the puppeteer is so adorable, but if you look at the puppet you can actually see that the puppeteer is doing a great job giving it life. I've seen many people doing Rod, but this is the best Rod I saw.

Thanks for posting this, I couldn't find the original one anymore. 5 stars!
the lady going nickys arm is jumping up and down when she does the movements and then when it's the 'but i'm not gay' she stands still... its awesomeness! especially rod and his book
@Theboxofme That's 'cause Peter Linz is performing him here, looks like Pete is having trouble getting the Ernie voice down pat, btw I thought Peter Linz was Steve Whitmire when I first saw this version (it's his beard) also Barrett Foa's Rod sounds like David Rudman (as does John's)
Well, they're all onstage; they're all present, they're all in the view of the audience, and each of them plays a part in embodying the representation of a character, so it's necessary to account for all of that.
Yeah, I actually wonder if Peter's version of Trekkie sounds like Theo from Between the Lions & if the blue Bad Luck Bear sounds like Tutter from Bear in the Big Blue House. Add the Walter-sounding Nicky here & you'd have Peter Linz's 3 main puppet voices here!
wow. the person who is doing rod is awesome. i liked watching him act it more than his puppet. although, i especially liked the whole...book move, then head move thing...
The part where rod says hes trying to read and he does the thing with the book was halarious. and at the end where nick was starting to end the song, if you look closely at rod, hes vibrating with anger. The guy who play him was probably the best rod they had.
I wasn't a fan of Barrett Foa, but he's really grown on me. He's an amazing puppeteer and he plays Rod less camp, which could be construed as a good thing, in terms of breaking down stereotypes.
The guy who plays Rod is GORGEOUS. Who is he? Love the song - I love how the performers don't outshine the puppets; in particular I like how Rod's performer just seems to be like the live version of the puppet - he somehow conveys a sense of the actual character with his facial expressions and movements. Thankyou for posting; now I really want to see this show! :)
After you saying how cute he is I looked a little closer and I TOTALLY agree, that boy is HOT. Anyway I had a little snoop around the net and found out his name is Barrett Foa. Hope that helps :)
whos the guy playing Rod? he was cute. "kuz i am gayyyyy, and its oookkkkkkk, how can i sssaaaayyyy, that i am sooooo gay, y cant u seee, if it wasnt for meeeeeeee, i wouldnt be here today, to tell u i am gay, i guess im born this way, i just have to sayyyy, guess wat IIMMM GAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY, hell yeah im gay."
All Broadway performances, to the extent of my knowledge, are performed live without any canned recordings. That explains why one of the actors was losing his voice.
