If Your Air Conditioning Isn't Blowing THIS MIGHT BE WHY!
In this video I repair and replace the blower motor resistor in my 2005 GMC Envoy (which is also pretty much the same as the Chevrolet Trailblazer). The blower stopped working all of the sudden one day and it turns out its a common issue with these vehicles. This blower motor resistor was cheap and easy to replace and worked like a charm. Now the air conditioning works great!

Yep... Usually it will give you a "heads-up" that is going out. Both my '97 & '99 Suburbans would only work on high, none of the other speeds. That's when you know its the resistor for sure. Good stuff Jimmy, keep 'em coming.

I had a 2006 Silverado that I kept 12 yrs & put 265,000 miles on. I replaced that part 3 times. Very well known issue with those GM vehicles. It & front wheel bearings is the only issue I ever had with that truck ! Other than battery, plugs & brake components everything else was factory. Never replaced fuel pump, water pump, thermostat- nothing. It even still had all 8 factory coil packs after 265,000. Best vehicle i ever owned ! Great video Jimmy.

My 2013 Mustang GT air conditioner stopped blowing with under 70k. I tapped the bottom of the blower under the glove box and it started back up. I found that the fan in the blower needed lubed. I tore it apart, lubed it and haven't had any trouble since. Thank you for the vid I love all you do.

I had the same issue on my 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 after doing much research I had the same issue as you did but went 1 step further than you did I also replaced the connector with all the wires on it and was also told when you replace one to replace both items from the Chevy dealer and have had no problems ever since and it's been going strong for about 5 years now and my truck only has around 150000 on it.

Bro, I've replaced this part a few times. Realized my blower motor was going bad on one occasion, which burned out this part. 🙌👑

Great video! Visually inspect first. The connector pins fail- a lot. I'd suggest checking voltage to the wires going to the blower. If there is voltage, likely the blower motor failed. Likewise you can test for voltage coming from the dash. If there is power from the dash, no power to the blower, verify that there's battery voltage going to the other two wires, if all of that is good the resistor, a common failure point, is bad. I had the trifecta- the blower was failing, drawing a lot of current, which damaged the resistor and the auto temp control in the dash. Ugh.

Probably be a good idea to replace the connector on that harness. You can usually buy them in a kit that comes with crimp connectors, just make sure you shrink wrap the crimp connectors.
@ford1546

You have to take out the bad stick to squeeze it together. bad contact is not only dirt and corrosion but that holes squeeze badly on the stick. You can also use dielectric grease on contact points to prevent moisture and corrosion from building up

Testing it in position 5 usually bypasses all the resistors, but if thermal fuse has tripped, still no blower.

Jimmy you need to put Dielectric grease inside those connections before you snap them together so they don't corrode or get hot.

That is a well known failure item on the GMT360 platform vehicles. Probably other vehicles as well. If it acts up again you may want to replace the plug. They're available aftermarket and it's a solder and heat shrink job. I've had to replace the resistor on my '04 Trailblazer as well as the wife's '06 Trailblazer. Fortunately it's a fairly easy job.

Yeah... also when your heater isn't working ...the resistor for the blower motor is usually the culprit.. 2:47... This has happened to me also and it goes away and you think "hmmmm...must have just been some other car around me".... and later on you find your heater doesn't work....

Hopefully you put a ohm meter on the blower motor itself to make sure it didn't cause the blower motor resistor to go bad. It's very common for the blower motor to short out and over time burn the resistor out.

my ac in my 2002 Chevy silverado 2500 hd 4x4 6.0 the #5 high speed has not worked for years?? IV replaced the part you did and the relay and the fuse AND the wire harness. still nothing has worked?? and the melted wire issue you showed is the same issue iv seen. Iv also changed the AC control panel it self with a newer model that has the rear view heater button that I use for my new door heated mirrors. What do you think? Ps. Iv also tried a different speed selector as well and nothing??????

@x-man5056
@x-man5056 3 года назад
Not necessarily. But a thorough examination of the pieces associated with that E circuit on that plug would be a good idea. It's always possible that the burnt resistor is a SYMPTOM of a different problem. Use a VM to check for continuity to the pins next to it indicting an internal short and check the burnt pin for security in the plug. All probably OK though. This is a pretty common GM vehicle failure though not on a car with that low of mileage.

You will have the same problem again. The burnt pin is loose causing a bad connection and then it gets hot and burn both the housing and wire. You will need to either replace that harness or just the burnt terminal.

If you have the control set to the vents that blow on you, feel if any air is also blowing out the defrost and/or floor vents. If so, the blend door actuator probably has stripped gears inside and needs replacing. Hope this helps!

Check the connector that goes into the resistor. They get hot and pins don't connect well. The wires get brittle and crack. 23.00 at autozone for new connector. Solder and heat shrink.
