Really enjoyed this interesting and factual interview with Ace Bass guitarist, Sharafa Bello. ( Baas guitarist Sharafa Bello,ok Tawakaltu Ikorodu nile Oriwu, A ye wa o Jesu adaba ewe :: E pe Sharafa Bello mi o,ko fi Bass dawa lara ya ,o di regi). Going memory lane to confirm that this was one of key band members of K S A in the 70's and confirmed by him in the interview.. My prayers for him to live longer in good health and happiness to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Amin. Kudos to Ejire and his Nigbati crew members for this interview

Thanks for the interview sir. Mr S. Bello shed more light than some of former KSA band members. Majority of then were not truthful, portrayed KSA as a bad leader. Majority of then weren't intelligent enough to put money aside for raining days. Proportion of their earnings were spent uncontrollable having many wives and children. This is a lesson to all. If you wants to be poor don't save money for raining days.

1. @NigbatiTv, pls can you always display the pictures of your guests, especially when they were on the stage with their band members so that one could easily match the face and picture/video? 2. Ėnìyàn mà sòro, this man is candid and truthful unlike other members who painted KSA so badly. 3. KSA, an enigma and institution is a course worthy of study in MBA class. His leadership style, conflict/dispute resolution, challenges and how he rescued success from the jaws of defeat. At least KSA should have taught us a lesson that it is not a sign of weakness to cry, KSA wept. If I cry amidst crisis, I will always remember that my hero (KSA) once cried too. @KSA i love you like kínlódééé, baba. You will live long in good health in Jesus name.

Ejiire, thanks so much for once again bringing such an enigma to our screens. For the sake of my reaction to the videoclip I will refer to Sharafa Bello as SB. SB truly is an enigma by revealing all what happened in KSA’s band in a most faithful, factual and friendly way. Some points of interest: 1. At some point in KSA’s illustrious career he recognised the hard work of his band members & gave them new cars without any strings attached. The other band members who benefitted from such largesse cunningly evaded that revelation during their interviews but they rather chose the path of ‘pull down syndrome’. I could see how surprised Ejiire was. 2. Another life lesson is that don’t eat with your ten fingers. Where some band members were busy vilifying KSA for not paying royalties another band member built himself a hotel…without mentioning names, SB states that, ‘they became ragingly jealous of his success’ and then they started to use diabolical means to suppress SB within the band set up! 3. My respect and unflinching admiration for KSA has just sky rocketed when I think about all the ‘aggro’s’ he went through during the very early days. It is clear that KSA became more daring in his managerial approach having realised that his band members were not necessarily loyal to him. Who would not have done the same? 4. Lastly SB has through this interview totally vindicated KSA of the bad things said about him by other band members who in my opinion are bitter because they felt that they were perhaps above everyone else in the band. They did not save. They did not plan for the future. They just complained and complained. They thought that KSA would never sack them but then he did at their most vulnerable period hence the bitterness when they realised that they had nothing to show for the years they spent with him. Unfortunately they were served breakfast by KSA. I just can’t help but say that were they blind when KSA was building his future? Were they also blind when SB was building his hotel? I guess they couldn’t see because of their selfishness. Ire o!😅

I haven't quite caught up to everything, and have just started listening to the interviews today. However, I have to say KSA, whose music I am fanatical about, stands guilty as charged. Bob Aladeniyi and Sharafa Bello have different stories because they walked away (Bob, a long time ago) and SB, much later. The other men were retired without notice by KSA, and he did not give them any gratuity or pension. In fact, one of them, Abiodun Fatoke, even accused KSA of sitting on the rainy day funds that the band members contributed. About 5 years ago, I employed 2 caregivers for my mum who passed away 6 months ago. In essence we employed the caregivers for 4 years - 1 full time job, 5 days a week, and the 2nd one doing weekends. With my mum passing, that meant their job stopped without notice. We paid them 2 year salary each for 4 years of job. Yes, I know we were generous in paying them 2 years, but they are entitled to at least 6 months salary, as a matter of justice. In many places, folks would just disengage the poor caregiver unjustly without any safety net, just because there is no law that makes it compulsory. Back to KSA and his band boys. Most of the 5 or 6 band members he retired on account of old age have worked for a minimum of 20 years. And he said bye to them without a penny. The cars he gave them since 1980s were irrelevant when they were being retired 20 years later. In fact, they ought to have got new sets of cars since then. In many organizations that was as successful as KSA band, it is not out of place to replace band members cars every 5 years. SB walked away half of the way, after he has prepared himself for a modest life in retirement, unlike his other bandmates who were suddenly retired much later without any notice or safety net. FYI, I write this as one of the greatest fans of KSA ever. IMO, KSA is the most talented Nigerian musician ever. There is no single song of KSA that I cannot sing from beginning to the end, including even some of the long guitar interludes in the old records, and I have been following him from the very beginning. I also know about his healthy interactions with his band members. His informal interactions is unrivalled in the Nigerian music scene - he jokes and clowns around with them like equals and not like a boss. Unfortunately, he failed them miserably in financial remunerations. Those he retired are entitled to gratuities, and KSA stands guilty until he does the right thing.

@@idowumohammed4689 Thanks for your detailed response and analysis of the situation aforementioned. The issue of paying royalties and gratuity is not as straightforward as you describe it. If you had listened very carefully to SB none of the band members had any formal contract with KSA hence KSA had no legal obligation towards them maybe he had a moral one though. That aside, one point all his band members have confirmed is that KSA did and does not owe them any money they make from their stage performances. Now is it not ironic that some band members who left for greener pastures without any gratuity still commend KSA today because those of them that were wise invested their share of the stage money well and most of them went on to start other businesses which is yielding good dividends for them today. Please don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that KSA is a saint. He may have his weakness and flaws but the truth is that his band boys too must take responsibility for some of their action or inaction as the case maybe. ‘Oluwa lo le se idajo a fi eyin pin eran’

@@bolajiaborisade5701 Thanks for making this an enjoyable intellectual sparring. The payment per show is the regular salary of the band members (nothing else). The money taken from each show is divided into 3: 1/3 for the organization management (in addition to the booking payment), 1/3 for KSA and 1/3 to be distributed to the band members (performers and packers). That salary should not preclude gratuity for those who worked for KSA for nearly all their working lives (about 40 years for most). The difference you in see in the former employee who are praising KSA is that they all left as young people, when they could go on to do other things. Bob Aladeniyi (joined 1969, left 1976), Sharafa Bello (joined 1969, left early 90s or late 80s), Apala drummer Alhaji Tiamiyu Olaitan, aka Timi, (joined about 1971, left 1984). In contrast, Folorunso Oni (a pioneer member of KSA band from 1966), Biodun Fatoke (joined 1968), Mattew Olojede (joined late 1968), and Femi Owomoyela (KSA classmate, joined 1974, after leaving Orlando Owoh’s band) and 2 others were sacked or retired on Feb 10, 2007 unexpectedly on account of old age, after about 40 years of service for 3 of them (and 33 years for Femi Owomoyela). All 4 were at least 60 years at the time. True there was no formal contract, but there was a great moral burden to award them some gratuities. The sudden change from a regular high paying job into sudden unemployment in near penury ruined a few lives. Since then, representations have been made to KSA and he even made half-hearted moves suggesting that he was going to compensate some of them, but he eventually did nothing. As you rightly opined, *‘Oluwa lo le se idajo a fi eyin pin eran’*

Listening to Baba Sharafa Bello and Femi Ilori, it shows that KSA was not so bad to a good number of the band members, I think the bottom line was that fact that so much jealousy and envy with fetish voodoo thrived among them. Some were lamenting maltreatment while someone said he managed his income to build hotel in the same band, also none of them ever mentioned that KSA gave them cars at any point in their journey with him. KSA need to really find a way to right the wrongs by compensating these men no matter what, they have tried together.
