This is an excerpt from the April 2022 new product roundup. I've gone on this rant enough times that I wanted to make a standalone video about it. There absolutely are SOME reasons to choose another motor, and there are other motors that are very, very good. But the Xing2 is so good at such a great price that you have to at least THINK about how other motors stack up before you put down your money. But a lot of other motors are objectively worse, and/or at a higher price than Xing2, and those motors should just be ignored.

a stupidity that you say and in particular on xing which are the worst engines on the market and I have proof of this several pilots, the axes which break and turn in a vacuum on the v1 and bells which twist at the first shock on the v2, then I said a "stupidity" because the purchase of robust, quality and more expensive engines allows you to crash and continue to fly during the session because the material is more expensive but above all more robust over time and therefore it's equivalent to cheap and fragile motors change frequently 🤷‍♂️ I speak in particular for beginners who will be more quickly frustrated and jaded to constantly change bell motors etc, so I recommend the investment of robust motors which are after the propellers the second consumables on a drone...

Honestly even though I see your point I have to disagree. The higher cost of the BB motor comes because BlackBird obviously needs to get some money on the sells (IFlight doesn’t have to do that) but it also comes from testing. The thing is that making a good freestyle 2125kv motor that is not a battery killer and that have a good throttle curve in the low is a pain (That without mentioning the testing to see if it made desyncs on different types of esc) I talked with BlackBird for months and months while he was testing them, and it probably took more than 6/8 months to get the feeling that he wanted, and you can really tell that when you fly them. I know that because I like to test new motors first freestyling in my backyard, and if a motor doesn’t have a good curve it’s almost impossible to make good moves in such a tight space, and even with the 2125kv version I had no issues at all. For the durability, I honestly never saw advantages of an unibell design even though I flew many of them. These are not bando motors, but motors made to be used 1 year flying between trees at full speed without changing them and with the bearings staying smooth. They also have some cool features like the bearings shield and the reinforcement on the motor wire base with soft glue.

Please do enlighten me what can you possible change on a typical drone motor, where just about every modern model has the same stator design, has the same magnet, which is probably supplied from one or two factories at best for the entire market, uses the same winding wire, and most motors use the same 7075 alloy aluminium for bells, and most have the same size, same manufacturer bearings? I've been told that some cheaper motors do use weaker magnets, but the high end ones I can bet use the exact same ones. The only thing you can play with is either stator volume, make a 2207.5 and just hide that from the specs so people will feel it has "better punch", or play with the air gap, but most motors have such a small gap alredy that it's hard to squeeze anything extra. This is just plain marketing, the difference between same volume, same kv motors, but different brands is so small that almost nobody will tell a difference. And at the same time there are so many other factors impacting a quads performance, like prop specs, even esc settings etc.
@kastyh-fpv
@kastyh-fpv 2 года назад
@@kacimierz and that is exactly where the price difference is coming from! 😉 90% of the motors are manufactured in the same factory and they all use the same part, basically the only difference is kv and the look of the bell. Instead a motor like the BBv3 is completely custom in every piece, which obviously makes the price higher. Other than that finding the right combination of magnets/airgap/windings to get the exact feel needed is SOOO difficult, simply because there is 0 documentation on how to do so. For example a stronger magnet is not always better than a weaker one, same things for ultra small airgap vs bigger airgap. It’s all about a combination of all of these factors that takes months and months to be found with many different prototypes being made (without saying the testing to find the best esc settings for that motor, in a way that if someone buys them he already have a really good starting point). Also, as I said before, the pilot have to get some money from the sells. So I think that a 3/4€ price difference is way more than justified :))

I have a Cinelog 2.5 that constantly had motor problems, spent too much money on like 3 individual motors with shipping from china. Said Heck it, getting some nice 1404 4600kv XING motors. Those bad boys are butter and take some hard abuse. I think that the best motor are the iflight xing-e pro 2207 1800kv, they are cheap, they are efficient and very well done, in my opinion the best of the iflight series. Sometimes one of the issue of the iflight motors is the distance between the coil and the magnet. Well, on the 2207 you don't have this problem, I bet you to find motors specs as cheap as good as this that I mentioned, and by the way, I don't think that the xing2 are made better than that.

UPDATE!:!: I think what I was feeling in the Axis Flying motor was the 175 extra KV & that's it. I think I just thought the expensive motors were better because I expected them to be. The Axis Flying motor bearings have lasted longer than the Velox V2 motors, but I don't believe they're worth 2 times the Velox V2 motors. I finally broke one of the Axis motors, but I won't spend nearly $30 for a replacement, so the 3 good motors are in a drawer now, waiting for a use. I bought the Axis Flying Black Bird motors because I wanted to try a high end 5 inch motor. I can tell a difference in them from the Velox v2 motors and I really didn't think I would. The KV is 175 more on the BB motor though. The BB is also a lighter motor so there is a small difference in feel. I want to try the Xing motors too, but the $13 Velox v2 2207 motors are a really good motor at a really good price.

Too bad you never tried BB motors honnestly, specially V3 in 2125kv that are just incredible, and no it has nothing to do with any other 2207 available motors, first it is 2207.35 technically, and you just have to test them to understand the incredible work done by Damien to get a such responsive motor in low throttle, and so explosive top end at the same time, I tried many motors and could never find anything close to that feeling. And the reason for that is simple, months and months of testing of various prototypes done by Damien working with Axis team to get the perfect balance and feeling, and that has a price for sure and I am proud to pay for that hard work done because I am then sure I will get something absolutely corresponding to my expectings, something that iflight just has no idea what that means.... When sooo many pilots all over the world are getting credits for now nearly 4 years and 3 generations of BB motors, I just cannot understand why you are so resistant to them, when it actually represents a real and positive contribution and efforts in designing a perfect product made by a great FPV pilot, for FPV pilots, and not just a brand willing to make money at lower costs, I love your work JB, but I can't understand that position really...

I've got 7 shafts in a pile where the spokes all broke, usually light crashes into wood. Never in the first 15 motors did i ever break a spoke, but half of the 2nd 15 brike this way. They claimed the same 7075 alum, but the 2nd version was absolutely weaker when they sold me that they're stronger. Burns me every time i hear JB say how much he loves the iFlight Xings 🤣 cuz i'll never buy em again...lol, just saw you relabel this section 😮🍆

I have tried a lot of different motors. I have participated in designing and manufacturing motors, including my own signature motor. But when I say something you disagree with, you say, "why aren't you more objective?" I respect your prerogative to disagree with me. So if I were then to do a test where I flew both of them and said I didn't feel any real difference, what would that prove? The real test would be to take a pilot who thinks they can tell the difference and do a blind test where they try to verify it.

@DiGi_FPV
@DiGi_FPV 2 года назад
JUST MY OPINION ! Multiple things. AxisFlying is still a super small company, they don't earn that much money which also explain why the motors are 27 dollars. (which btw is the standard price for a high end motor, T-Motor, XNova, RCinPower, and even your friends at rotor riot all sell their motors for the exact same price man, and for years. BlackBird v3 are not here just because they wanted to make a pilot motor, damien been working on them for years with T MOTOR actually and every time he was getting something better with prototype tests he released a new version. He did it with AxisFling this year because it's just better manufacturing. Can we please talk about iflight manufacturing which isn't really consistant and precise, i had the Xing v1 back then, they were kinda nice but it looked like they all had magnets differences, fragile bearings, and just bad durability overall. (from my experience) you don't talk about what can make bbv3 better Joshua, you just said that the flight was cheaper, so we all have to buy it... So then we will just buy some T MOTOR velox for 10 dollars and it will be fine ??i mean Cmon, do a proper comparaison before ! the feeling is different, not every 2207 feels the same ! Black bird motors also have BTS bearings btw, which basically works as a shield around the bearings so then the dust stay away from the bearings and you probably don't have to change them ever. You don't have such of things on iFlight. Blackbird motors are made by one of the most talented pilot on earth, and he is actually the dude that works the hardest on his own branded products. And his motors the exact throttle curve, smoothness and power we need for today's freestyle ! Some people will not feel any difference but most of the people do, and if you ask me to pay 6dollars more per motors for something that supports a pilot, supports a growing brand, and has an insane manufacturing reputation i'm down ! ( and looks better LMAO haha ! the Xing V1 looked so much nicer)
@JoshuaBardwell
@JoshuaBardwell 2 года назад
I did not say iFlight was cheaper so buy it. If I wanted the cheapest motor, I'd buy FlashHobby, which are really poor quality motors. I said that iFlight has all the $27-motor features, at a $22 price point. Features like 7075 aluminum, titanium alloy hollow shaft, high quality Japanese bearings, unibell, notched magnets, shock absorbing bumper, and so forth. So when you look at a $27 motor that is lacking some of these features, I'm saying that you have to justify to yourself the decision to spend more on that motor. If you love the motor for some other reason, then you justify the decision and you buy it.

You guys think to highly of yourselves. First guy only flies these motors for the last 4 years. Have you tried tmotor or rcinpower smoox ? Yeah, did you ? What was different and so bad about them, how were they worse than these axis ones ? To say a motor is better because some guys fly it says nothing about the motor really. Some guys fly other motors and swear by them. How are they different ? I see evan turner winning everything with his motors, are those the best cause the champ is running them ? Whatever axis puts out is way more expensive than it should be. Because some pay to brag or to project or whatever the case may be. If you accept elrs tx at triple the price of others just bacause axis is making it, it's your choice. Is it the best ? I don't think so. But as long as you are happy, whatever I wonder why the emax eco perform so well in all tests. I mean, why does it perform soo good and better than axis. Tests must be wrong. The new xing motors has slotted magnets thus reducing magnetic field why try so hard to get magnets close to the stator then slot the magnets would be the same as pulling magnets away from stator it was tried in rc cars years ago and it robs motor power more so than the slight cooling effects. Don't buy into the hype of slotted magnets they will not be around long because the performance loss is much more than the slight cooling effect

In my opinion you can‘t make decisions based on the look. I have flown them all and if you have ever flown a Blackbird v3 motor, you probably won‘t go back to other brands if you want to spend the extra few bucks on a top tier motor. Damien (aka Blackbird FPV) puts all his love into this hobby to bring out the BEST gear possible. He has done hard work to bring out those motors and you guys are killing his work a bit, by just saying „all in all its a motor with magnets and a winding…, so why would you spend the extra money on this“.
@JoshuaBardwell
@JoshuaBardwell 2 года назад
If my sources are right, the main difference in the Blackbird motor is that it uses weaker magnets so you get less top-end power and torque, but more smoothness. This is somewhat offset by the high kv, which makes up the RPM a little bit (but at the expense of higher peak amp draw compared to lower kv motors). In that respect, at least the motor's design is somewhat unique, and if it gives you characteristics that you want, then more power to you.
