"Terbos" not only don't sound that good, at least without mods as the turbine blocks exhaust sound and the intake is usually muffled, but they are really good at blowing up. More torque, better midrange and ample passing power are their thrills, they are generally more responsive and fun to drive but only if you lay on it. On the other hand a "terbo" runs hotter and tends to boost more when under load. Such as when pulling 5700lbs not counting any towing. A 3.5 with 450hp has way, WAY over 100hp per liter and a far higher specific output than a 5.7 with 381. Toyota reliability or not physics are not kind to "terbos" and they will never last as long despite the advanced in technology. More headaches, more hassles, more maintenance, no thanks. The case could be made for the hybrid upper level version because the electric motor could give you some 'boost' lest the turbine itself boost up and maybe delay blowing up of hte motor. Trust me with "terbos' it's a matter of time until you crack a ringland, spin a bearing , lose the actual turbine bearings, melt something, blow a head gasket, leak oil, crack the block, crack the turbo, crack a hose from heat, or break something. Something bad is bound to happen when you increase temperatures and pressures like that. Whomever thought of it for race cars that you can rebuild or replace the motor every race was a genius. Whomever adapted it to road cars with expectations of durability should be dragged out into the street and shot!
@@mikecoglione1308 I’m a Benz tech and haven’t replaced many modern turbos so far. They started with direct injection gas motors around 2014 or 15? I replaced one for a oil leak and another was burned up cause the oil feed line was restricted from lack of oil changes. Only others I’ve replaced was cause of wastegate linkage issues that you couldn’t get separate of the turbo at the time. Toyota will probably do a good job
when I traded my tundra off road for my pro was like the best day of my life. I just love my lunar rock pro. tomorrow getting my windows tinted... also changing the tires...
I have a 19’ 1794.. and i put a TRD dual exhaust on after i bought it… OMG!, i love it!! ..its the perfect note, not obnoxious, not annoying.. just right.👍
@@UntamedMotors thank you! I watched pretty much all of them that had to do with the tundra. I'll be getting the go rhino runners soon and probably a few interior mods. Wifey is getting a 4runner next so I'll be showing her those videos soon.
Oh yeah! 5.7 and TRD Dual Exhaust. The natural evolution of a big V-8. Perhaps we are near the end of this in mass produced cars and trucks, but love it, love it, love it. Glad to see that Ms. Untamed has a strong right foot!
Haha oh yeah she does lol. ...though she’s not so quick to admit it, she Lives this V8 and the glorious sound it makes. =] ...yep, this is definitely the last of a dying breed.
Just got a 2nd hand TRD exhaust for my SR5 and will be installing it soon. I look forward to the sound. I got a 2nd hand TRD intake as well that helps too. Brand new prices really aren't worth the minimal to zero power gains and just "theatrics" but at the end of the day that's what we all want! The TRD intake sounds a little harsh in the 1600-2000rpm but I love the deeper growl, subtle, you can hear it a little. Stock exhaust is wonderfully limousine quiet, luxuriously refined but I didn't like it because above 3000rpm it sounds wimpy and it's not quite like how you would imagine a V8 to be. We all want a Mustang too but honestly they are total junk, one look at the extensive and embarassingly long recall list like electronics, oil lines, engine fire risk and I ran away from even thinking about one! I don't drive my truck that hard but sometimes you want that satisfying V8 sound; an endangered species from what I hear about all this global warming stuff.
dude this video is awesome!! love the different perspective, i always like to see how'd ny truck would sound like if i was just someone walking down the road haha. sounds mean!!
The exhaust is the next mod I want to do to my SR5 and the TRD exhaust has been one of my top choices but I think your video has made my final decission much easier.
Do it you wont regret it. I put one on my sr5. Was actually the first mod I did and I couldn't be happier. Wakes up the v8 with that amazing tone. No drone at highway speeds and sounds great even when towing. Totally worth the money and the black tips look amazing.
@@UntamedMotors Tempted to trade in my clean 2012 Ford platinum ecoboost F150 on one of these. It would be quite a change and I am trying to talk myself into it. It seems the is the last of the old school V8s. I have to admit my Ecoboost has been pretty reliable though and I have about 90k on it.
Best aftermarket exhaust or a Tundra is from Dirty Deeds Industries. They will custom make an exhaust depending on how loud you want it. They have a TRD Pro replacement that has a deeper tone that comes with the stock Tundra Pro which is a rebranded Borla
The sound is one thing I miss about my Tundra. I had the TRD exhaust it was awesome. A little annoying when towing heavy load up mountains but loved it otherwise
Hmmm that’d definitely be a unique look. I’m sure those bronze bbs wheels could look good on nearly anything. Army green too! I know a few folks that sport bronze wheels on their AG pros 👌🏻
@@UntamedMotors would you ever consider getting them/painting them for the Tundra? I think it would make a great edition to them plus probably the first one on RU-vid with that color
@@Yetti22079 maybe if I found a set for sale nearby for a good deal I’d consider it... I wouldn’t want to paint or powdercoat these for the sake of sustaining their forged ability. We have something else in the works atm that’s taking up my additional change. Stay tuned! =]
You’ll love these... they are GoRhino RB20 running boards finished in bed liner. You can use “Untamed” as a discount code at Go Rhino and it’ll save you 10%. 👌🏻
Any idea if the 2021 TRD pro is pre-wired for the RCTA and BSM? It feels such a big miss to leave these features out from their most expensive model. I haven't been able to find anything concrete about this. It seems the TRD Pros are based on the limiteds which do have BSM and RCTA. So the question is if the wire harnesses already there in the truck supports it and if just the sensors are required. Can we buy the sensors and sonar and plug them right in to get these features? The Canadian TRD Pros do have BSM and RCTA. I feel is an inexcusable cheap out from Toyota.
PRO FUN TIP: Windows down (especially rear one), sunroof open - hit your Tow/Haul a** button and nail it from a stop. You'll get tire chirp (or spin, depending on your tires), more DBs, and faster acceleration. You also get the added fun of watching your gas gauge move! 😂
Looking hard at the 2021 Toyota 4RUNNER TRD Pro and 2021 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro both in Lunar Rock. Will be a daily driver and something I'll keep for 5-8 years or longer. Traded every time the wind blew for the last 35+ years. Just decided to keep one and do some other things. Your opinion on what you might chose. Driven both. Love both in how they handle ride and drive. I realize they both are old school compared to the big 3 American trucks and even the new Nissan. But, alot less hassle to work on and less to break. Reliability on the two Toyota's are soild as a rock. Thanks.
If this is going to be your only vehicle... I’d vote Tundra. If you have another work truck at home, 4Runner. I personally have a hard time finding a true fault in the Tundra. It’s reliable, comfortable, spacious, powerful, and functional. The 4Runner is just easier to park and can haul the dogs better =] It’s a win win situation though.
Perfect. Question for you. We have the exact same set up but my truck is about two weeks older. I’ve noticed when I’m going over 50 I can hear a wine/humming noise which at first I thought was just the bigger tires but realized it coincides with me pushing on accelerator. What the heck? You have same? Thx!
I haven’t noticed anything like that but you’re describing a power steering pump whine... which can typically be the case if your vehicle isn’t up to operating temp and you get it up to speed quick. Shouldn’t be that noticeable though... so it may be something else. You planning on taking it in to the dealer?
@@UntamedMotors thanks for info. Yeah, I was beginning to talk myself into it being normal but your response has changed my mind. I’ll take it in after turkey day. Thanks!
Follow up. Dropped off at dealer this morning. Just got call from service advisor. Needs new rear diff. Crazy! 800 miles on it and haven’t done anything but street driving to/fro. Damn COVID truck?!! Looking forward to having a solid brand new truck again. Thanks for the advice!
Liked your video👍 I only have the off-road model but I'm on the fence on the trd dual exhaust system. not sure if I'm gonna loose any throttle response or hp? Liked & Subscribed
anyone can help me? i want to buy lexus gx premium trim, can i install crawl control and multi -terrain system (OEM) in this specific trim because it is hard to get these features even in the luxury trim. i did check with a few lexus dealerships, one said yes and another said no, any suggestions???
I just wash them on a whenever I have a nice day... ends up being a weekly thing. I use a touchless wash (posted a couple videos of the wash I take them through too) when I don't have the time to do it by hand. =]
Man, Im trying to wait until spring to get the TRD exhaust so i can get it treated and avoid a winter full of Midwest road salt, but vids like this wanna make me get that mean bitch installed tomorrow..... haha
Your F-150 will leave you stranded soon on the road.....Ford/dodge and chevy...........nothing but issues!!! Get rid of it b4 it turns into a money Pit!!
I'm really teetering between your current truck and the RAM 2500 Power Wagon... Now that you're back in a Tundra for a while, can you contrast it with the RAM 2500 you had previously? I'll be pulling a 6000 pound off-road trailer most of the time, by the way ...
Just traveled over 600 highway miles..zero drone in my opinion..the only instance I hear anything annoying is around 50mph..it has a chopper sound so I get on it to eliminate it...75mph there's no drone in mine
I think both are fantastic colors... I think AG was more “special” however I think LR has more variety to it in different shades of light. Love em both but I honestly think I’d take LR between the two simply because it’s neutral yet unique... so it’ll age better imo. 👌🏻
I could see how some would consider this droning... but imo it’s not quite to that level. It’s really a nice rumble at any speed but not to the point where you’re struggling to hold a conversation with folks in the truck with you. I love it... and so does my wife. Though she’s not so quick to admit it hah. =]
@@raymondsolinas6976It doesn’t meet my definition of drone... however to some it may. To me, it has a (great) consistent rumble while rolling around town and on the freeway.
@@UntamedMotors that sounds expensive CNG is the best choice for this vehicle because it's the most fuel efficient fuel and this vehicle has high consuption so yeah
It sounds OK, but not worth the money especially when you can get a much better sounding exhaust for under $700. The stock standard exhaust on my Tundra is loud enough and sounds pretty good for what it is; a standard exhaust without the $1,500+ price tag of the TRD exhaust.
@terrynichol577 oh, good heavens no... it's not TRD so there's no over inflated price! How will I ever survive... ohhhh, nooo... I didn't get ripped off enough on the price... now I'll never be cool... how will I go on!?!?!
@@erosthespacesoldier1712 no, you probably won't the other exhaust you get. Will probably rust out to shit. Depending on what exhaust you get. But yeah you probably won't survive if it's not TRD bro. Sorry
@@erosthespacesoldier1712 no, I'm English. Just talk texting, so it gets all fucked up in translation You know what I mean? Anyways, I'm just messing with you in general, there's tons of other exhausts out there, that sound great. I have the TRD on my off-road trim Tundra, sounds great, It looks good, it's not overly excessive.
It's a very high quality system. No need to replace a beautifully designed factory thick-walled stainless steel system. If you want it louder, have a muffler shop mod it (i.e., swap in different mufflers).
@@PaulSter i went with a bamuffler trd replacement system. Uses same type of metal just smsller mufflers and is an x pipe. Is just loud enough for me. (Mine came with a trd pro exhausts).
