Enjoyed the flight very much, the mountains are beautiful with the snow caps. Sometimes the radio is the most stressful part of a flight - You two handled it with poise. Looking forward to the next video.
"What are you doing??" haha. That situation can be kinda tricky b/c you don't want to leave the Approach frequency too early but she obviously got busy and forgot about you at a critical time. Either way...no flight is ever the same. We are always learning!
Bryan, thanks for watching! My previous video (KWJF) was IFR-cancelled-to-VFR, and we lost SoCal (terrain, I expect) and made the correct call to go to Fox Tower early. I think since here we were still IFR on the visual to KCRQ it just seemed like we should try longer to get the handoff. Learning, learning. Thanks. Wayne
I’ve flown visual into kcrq quite a few times and it can get hectic. I have been scolded by the same controller for doing a touch and go even after she cleared me for a touch and go. Just goes to show what their workload is in that area with a lot of Bravo to the south and light jet traffic along with coastal flights in the area . In this case was so cal busy in this area, and would punching the ident to jump in on the channel help ? Good definitive actions on the avoidance. Fish Tacos at landings are phenomenal.
Jeremy... I agree, a hectic area with controllers doing their best to handle all the workload. SoCal was indeed busy, and as you saw, 2 attempts to get a freq change went unanswered. In hindsight I should have gone to Tower and monitored SoCal. Also agreed, good food at the Landings. Thanks for watching! Wayne
