This is just the short executive summary of IFRS 11 and does NOT replace the full standard - you can see the full text on IFRS Foundation's website.

I'm a bit confused about the following with regard to the accounting of joint operation: a) Its revenue from the sale of its share of the output arising from the joint operation (b) Its share of the revenue from the sale of the output by the joint operation Would someone be so kind as to elaborate on this?

Don't take what I said as correct but these are just what I learned about it. You record revenues of the joint operation as part of the revenue of the join operators (equivalent in its share.) But you don't set up an account of "Investment in JV" like in joint venture because this one is a separate account. (this one is in Equity method) So, in joint operation, you just regard those revenues as additional revenue of the joint operators. And the expenses as additional expenses of the joint operators. (pro rated based on their respective shares)

Also, in case that there is a separate vehicle and that separate vehicle can sell the output to the third parties, it is regarded as Joint Venture. Because the separate vehicle assumes demand, inventory and risks. It is noted that the separate vehicle can only sell the output to the joint operators in order to be regarded as joint operations, unless sale to third party is approved by the joint operators. With these, it reflects exclusive dependence of the separate vehicle upon the joint operators for the generation of cash flows.

Thank you Silvia for this video. It is quite clear and easy to understand. However, I had one question. If the joint arrangement is not carried through a separate entity, is it necessary that it is a joint operation? Or could there be any exceptions to this rule?
@CPDbox

No, it's not necessary - in this case, you have to assess many aspects of the transaction to make a conclusion.

Thank you Silvia ...actually my company has entered into a business agreement with a foreign contracting company to construct a solar system in her country utilizing our name and this required us to put our name in the joint arrangement and to provide 2 types of bank guarantees liability against a predetermined commission percentage we receive it upon his progress... she (the partner) is contractually the leader of this joint arrangement .... can we consider this arrangement as a joint venture or it's a joint operation...appreciate your kind response.

Extremely hard to say from this scarce info and without assessing the agreement itself. There are criteria to see. However, one primary question is - did you set up a separate vehicle (legal entity)? If not, then this points to joint operation. Also, it could point to some different sort of arrangement, e.g. maybe the applicable standard here is IFRS 15. But I would be just guessing here without seeing the contract itself.

net assets equal to assets minus liabilities therefore doesn't right to asset and obligation to liabilities same?
@goeatsomeshiet11q
@goeatsomeshiet11q 5 лет назад
just think of it this way, net assets is synonymous to equity. so it's not actually the same
