@@zeeondemand Greed. They rather hold on to tradition than to bless that daughter., And it is pure sad. I love the videos because I am a descendant of the tribe. And I want to learn as much as I can.

I am dating a IGBO man. And up front, I told him I could not have any children because I had cancer. I asked him if was he fine with that he said sure. Tradition really needs to stop and let me explain the bible says to forget those things that are behind you and move forward. Now I have children. But when I got the cancer they had to remove everything. So I am praying for God to give me a womb.

From what I have seen the IGBO woman has grace. I mean they walk with grace. The Bible says the man is the head of the house. So the real ones go by the Bible/ I love to see a man take charge. He walks with dignity, I love that in a man. He very low key but when its time to say something he comes out with what he has to say,

You made valid points but check the British monarchy that started existing in the 16th century, if a reigning King or Queen had 5 children and the last born was a male child, the male child was anointed the heir and then the King. A woman only became Queen if there were no surviving male children of the previous monarch. This was only abolished in April 2013... from the 16th century. In Igboland right from time, if a family is wealthy enough to bequeath an inheritance, the girl child inherits stuff like the male children except lands/buildings in the village because the thinking was she would be married to some other village anyway and the village lands/properties are mostly for the male children, grand & great-grandchildren etc. and especially since the village lands are scarce and not primarily intended for commercial reasons but family heritage and expansion. So I don't think there's an issue here and like you mentioned these things are toning down a lot now because many ladies are now choosing not to marry unlike then.

I don’t think a typical igbo man of this generation have any issues allowing a girl child to benefit from properties located in the city. It becomes a problem if she is married out and tries to claim or benefit from an ancestral land that was handed to her father. The kinsmen are likely to fight back directly or indirectly. The truth is that in the hearts of most Igbo men, they wish to have a continuity of their name. I have seen Igbo families that had all girls and still decided to adopt a male child just to make sure their name don’t go extinct. As far as caring, the girl child have proven to be better than the male child in some cases. In reality, it still doesn’t change the fact that Igbo culture lay emphasis on the male child.

Have you asked why there is no traditional ruler in Igbo land that is a female ? This is because of the male child emphasis. So fine out from your village traditional prime minister or your village Igwe what Igbo men believe as regards this topic then you relay the answer to the points I made. No doubt there may be exceptions in some cases . Finally my views are not expressed in any way to put down any gender but guided by Igbo traditional practices I have witnessed over the years.
