@@csharpcoffee this. As someone that grew up with Lord of the Rings and later enjoyed reading Game of Thrones Mushoku Tensei is the first piece of fantasy literature that has ever touched me as much. I whole heartedly believe that Mushoku is the best japanese Fantasy show/book/series ever.

I have the exact same reason why I didn't like AOT. Everyone and their mother were telling me it was the best show ever created so I went in with extremely high expectations. And the show... was good. But it was just that. Just good. Not groundbreakingly fantastic, not amazingly mindblowing just... Good. Which sucks. I wish it wasn't constantly shoved in my face as "the best show you'll ever see, mate, trust me, bro". One day I'll go back to it and rewatch it with a much more clear head and see if I'll rediscover it.

If you like it then it isn't mid to you and that's what matters. That's how you end up watching shows like Kyousougiga and discovering one of the greatest shows nobody knows about. @@joeb1955 Thanks for replying! One thing that baffled me was how many people didn't like the shows which I loved and calling them mid, 8/10. It kinda physically hurt me when someone said kaguya sama 8/10 when its my fav anime of all time. So I didn't want to get in that stage where good shows seem 8/10 because you have watched "too much anime" and there was "nothing special in that show". Oi i still absolutely love and rewatch the first 4, and enjoy the ending of the sixth season in most aspects. It’s just too bad we never got to see danny actually arrive in westeros.

Then they should seperate genres and make a list with each one of them. So for example: Top 10 romance anime, top 10 comedy anime, top 10 fantasy anime, top 10 mecha anime, top 10 action anime etc. That would be more fair. That would be a very long list though. In that case maybe they can reduce it to top 5 or even top 3 for each genre.

I watched the entirety of that anime 2 times. And went on to read the manga because I needed more of that high. It's definitely the best sports anime.

The irony is he liked the later seasons.

But GoT had 2 average seasons and 2 terrible ones, so almost half of the show is not good. AoT has been great so far, there are like 9 chapters left, which is like 10% of the anime length.

The show is about why we choose to compete, and how people feel or react when they can no longer compete. Do you play to bring honor to your family? Do you play because it's the only way to take care of your family? Or do you play just because it's fun. Most sports anime focus on the journey to becoming the champion. Ping Pong essentially treats that aspect with lower importance so that the previous stuff I've mention gets to shine brightly. Hopefully that answers it for you.

To be fair though, as a massive code geass fan, i feel like us fans conveniently forget all the bad shit about code geass too because the ending was so amazing. Maybe you liked it, but the whole subplot about charles and lelouche's mother wanting to do...something??? to heaven still never made any sense to me, and all the stupid tonal shifts from war crimes to light hearted filler school scenes were so jarring, looking back.

Meanwhile people will always talk up deathnote and remember it fondly while pretending that after L+Ratio the show skips to the final scene. Ask most people what happened after that and they wont be able to tell you. But with code geass even its biggest haters could tell you what happened in season 2. Anyways, with season 2 it still remains my favorite anime.

Its not even that good. FMAB is a mediocre bogstandard shonen anime that caters to the masses while having a slight western appeal (that slight western appeal was all it needed for it to blow up. Just look at how popular MHA got when it first came out. Superheroes appeal to westerners thanks to Marvel movies)

I don't usually comment on this since I don't usually want to start a shitstorm, but I guess it's the day, I recently watched both seasons and I genuinely don't understand why it's regarded as the pinnacle of anime, I mean, I liked the music, even more the visuals, but... the first episodes were a slog and I felt like the good part truly begins with Nanachi... which is 11 out of 13 of the first season, what. The 3 first episodes takes all the "not-to-do" things that people say about exposition and checks the list, I like Reg and Nanachi, I can't stand Riko nor I understand what's so special about her, the adventure aspect is good, mystery is good, fucked up antagonist is good, setting is awesome, story... I don't know, I tried to like it, and still I have a uneasiness in the back of my mind about some things shown since they are little kids. Oh, it's not be a killjoy, It's fine if people love it, I just don't think it lives to the standing of the "critics darling" and the issues should be talked about or at least dismissed

So much for speaking so highly, i thought maybe you would actually have good taste. Disappointing. The only good ones on your list are eva, shinsekai yori and girl's last tour. Haruhi's movie is decent as well but not quite on that "good" level. The tv series is mostly bad especially that terrible endless 8 part. Made in abyss is an overglorified edgy torture pr0n of little children. The plot is meh at best and its character writing is utter failure. Mob psycho is a show that had potential but never used it properly. It has serious pacing and structure issues. It wastes a lot of its runtime on meaningless/unsubstantial stuff which means the plot is mediocre for meandering too much. The character writing and development seems to be its appeal/strong point but unfortunately even in that it is very flawed because it repeats the same character beats too much. So what i am trying to say is, it has too much repetition and that makes it easily get stale after a while. I mean how many times will the show have a story beat regarding mob helping an antagonist learn an emotional lesson in a cheesy way or the opposite, someone else (especially reigen) helping him and returning him to normal when he goes crazy with his powers? There is just not enough meaningful growth, it feels like it goes to square one after every big event. This happens mostly because the series doesn't have enough plot to justify its length. One (the author) is clearly not a plot guy, as seen in one punch man too. His plots are extremely basic and repetitive monster of the week style. And finally sonny boy, that one is ok too but it gets overhyped by "casual elitists" aka people who are new into arthouse/experimental anime. If those people watched more artsy anime like tatami galaxy, mind game, revolutionary girl utena, texhnolyze, serial experiments lain etc. they would realize that it is in fact not really that special. It sticks out to casual fans because they don't watch that type of anime very often. Its execution is flawed, even if its intentions are admirable and respectable at a time in anime industry where creativity is dead and most studios only make pandering trash and/or anime that already have extremely successful adaptations. The rest of the stuff you mentioned aren't even worth mentioning and some like chuunibyou are straight up laughable choices.

A massive agree on GTO. Honestly, Fate probably should not be on that list, what made it blow up was FGO, the big ufotable adaptations came after it blew up. And the ufotable adaptations kinda fit into the same reason as Demon Slayer - no one will deny that ufotable makes pretty anime, but none of the adaptations were really S rank in terms of everything else.

The list is all extremely popular shounen anime only shows that the one who made it either doesn't watch many anime, only watches shounen or doesn't know what's talking about that coming from IGN isn't a surprise.

Problem is there is a lot more anime better than them. Even I agree that Dbz sucks. I love and played all the games and watch all the anime and read all the manga that they (dragonball team/jump) release, but overall, DBZ just sucks. For me, some manga should just stay manga and if they want to make an anime, don't just simply redraw them with colour and then animate it. The same with one piece. Luckily, after few hundred of episode, the quality change a bit and there are more scene/frame that elaborate the scene/surrounding.

It's kinda a popular contrarian point nowadays to call fmab average or even not good, people are tired of seeing it in a lot of top5's I guess. I get it, but still as far as show deserving a top5 I don't see any issue of having fmab there, even if it's not one of my favorites. People take it way too seriously, a lot of animes can be considered top1-3, it doesn't have to be the one you personally enjoy the most.
