Just used your video to fix my 2005 Neon !! My car wouldn't start when i came out of the store. Only would turn on my dash lights, not engage the starter. Had the starter checked after i removed it, it was ok. Took the column apart and the same problem, bought one at Napa auto parts $41.00 installed it. Problem solved!! Thanks for the excellent video.

You can buy that piece by itself - it's called the ignition switch actuator pin. It's the same one as the 2006 Jeep Liberty, the Napa PN is 6201414. The MFR part number is 924-704 (Dorman).

The inner mechanism is an ignition switch actuator pin. You can get them from any parts store I purchased a new one from oriellys. it is a Dorman product. Great video... excellent how to!

Good video. The part you replaced is called the IGNITION SWITCH ACTIVATOR PIN ASSEMBLY. It is a $45.00 part. If you sent the vehicle to a dealership, they would have charged you nearly $700.00 for that job. Good work.

Im confused because my actuator pin broke exactly like the video, but the part has an instruction manual that has like 12 steps, explaining how you need to have the brass part at a certain angle, and how you need to turn the key and match some lines, and so ma y other steps. But in this video looks like u just put the actuator pin in and thats it. Ive been at it for 2 hours on my 2000 Dodge Neon and just cant seem to get it to work 😡

@turbobuick33 im not 100% sure, i think i purchased that set at harbor fright a couple years back in a pinch, its a security bit set. made by drill master. cheap set however i break the good brands as well, so far they held up. thanks for stopping in, will

Sounds like you may have a tumbler issue in the cylinder itself if so its cheapest just to replace, you can try and have a new key cut and see if that helps, most likely its the cylinder

you may have blown a fuse, is the battery charged ? it may have drained during repair, make sure all connections are good and correctly installed

Car wouldn't start tonight while I was working and figured I was in deep doo doo. Ended up at this video...can't think you enough. I've the column open and it's the exact problem. Hoping the junk yard has it in the morning.

Thank you for posting this video, it helped a lot. My wife's car wouldn't start but the key would turn and all the accessories worked... it ended up being 1 arm of the ignition actuator. Again thank you as I have never taken apart the ignition system before.

Thank U, I have a neon that had this issue and i couldn't get anyone to fix it so it has been sittin up. I went as far as connecting a wire to the starter with botton to start until i finally got tired of doing it. Yeah i had to pop the hood remove negative post and fuse to shut it down....lol thanks bro im fixing mine and gas will be saved...

This worked perfect! O'reillys had the Dorman 924-704 part in stock for $40, and the security bit set for $7. Because of the video it only took me 30 minutes to diagnose and replace the ignition actuator. Thanks so much.

Great video. My neon suddenly stopped running while i was driving ( in a parking lot ) and does not want to start at all. No clicks from the starter and no buzz from the fuel pump. My lights work as well as the dash lights but will not turn over or even sound like it want to. I am going to change the ignition switch to see if that is the problem. I feel i can do it after watching your video. Thanks

Hi, I have a question.... that happened to me on my Liberty so I also replaced the same part you did, but for some reason, the truck chimes or dings as if it had the key inserted when I open the door, the lights are off, the key is not in the ignition and it just keeps dinging or chiming and my alarm does not engage when I turn off the Jeep, I have to wait a few seconds to engage. Do you know what might be the problem? Thanks.

Hello there. I found an alternative to going to the junkyard and getting a never used AKA new part. It's Dorman part #924-704: Ignition,Switches Actuator. It's fully assembled as well = drop in replacement. The exact thing happened to me 2 days ago with the 2003 Jeep Wrangler Sport I drive and bought new in '03. Thanks for this video as well as it covers vehicles from that era that have this common problem (metal actuator looks like it's made out of pot metal, hence why they go out / break).

I have a similar issue and could use some help. my 98 neon blows starter fuses when its really hot outside, but seems to have the same issues as the ignition switch, my starter is perfect and battery too..but it died a few days ago and couldnt be jumped, but i had all my accessories, should i try to replace the switch? i would love to figure this out..and would appreciate any advice!!

Hey Will Im not 100% positive but I think Dorman Products has that part available! I can remember doing lots of those in alot of Mopars during my days at the dealer and at first you're only options were what you did sourcing from a yard or buying the complete column! Dorman products are a lifesaver and there channel and website are both excellent! Cheers man!

Ok someone broke into my car and tried to steal it. now the keys no longer work so i got a new ignition key lock cylinder for it. however everything I have researched says you need the key to turn it in order to take it out. what can I do to remove the old one if the key will no longer turn it?

okay maybe I mightve missed something, but what tool did you use to remove the lock cylinder? I also have a 2000 Neon but my ignition will not turn at all and someone to me to remove the lock cynlider grease it up and it should work.

Help got a 95 neon no fire no fuel auto shutdown relay doesn't engage when i jump it i get fire to the coil pack but pump doesnt engage it was dying driving it home but always fired back up til i got home last nite this morning nada

Do you think the procedure is the same on an 04? The key is chipped and I have heard that on newer cars you can activate a anti theft mode if you aren't careful. I think it all comes apart the same but I don't want to trigger anything. Thanks

I went to Pull-A-Part and got the Ignition Switch (with the T10 Security bit) but I couldn't get the Actuator because there is no key to remove the lock cylinder. Just knock it off with a hammer and chisel next time? Great video thanks.

I HAVE A 98 PLYMOUTH BREEZE THAT STARTS FINE BUT DOESN'T ALLOW THE KEY TO TURN ALL THE WAY BACK LEAVING MY GEAR DISPLAY LIGHT ON AND DRAINING MY BATTERY. ISN'T THAT THE CYLINDER THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED?

I'm in England so I've got a right hand drive Chrysler Neon 4 door ( does that count as a saloon ) and I think that it's the electrical part of the ignition. People here in Plymouth including auto locksmiths look at me as if I'm asking about an alien spaceship and you would not believe how many places I had to try myself looking for the front brake pads and discs so that the garage could fit them. No-one so far knows anything about the rear ones as they are not discs and pads ! Are they really that uncommon in this part of the country/world ? Anyway I'm going to give it a go with your video and hope for the best !

Thank you a lot. My Neon wont turn over when i turn the Key. I was told to check the Starter to see if I get a 12 volt charge when I turn the key. If I get a charge then the Starter is out. If no 12 volt charge is shown then it's in the Ignition. The Mechanic said my Battery charger will work and a Voltage Checker. Thank you.

hey got exactly the problem you showing here, that broken aluminium piece of a neon 2000. Am in Botswana, southern africa, any idea of nearest dealer i can get asistance from without having to buy the whole steering column as suggested by the local dealer> Would very much appreciate it

That part breaks all the time on neons. Local parts stores keep them in stock. It’s like a 924-704 dorman part. However be aware the average min wage parts person can’t find this part or doesn’t know what I’m talking about. So talk to someone smart like a commercial parts manager.

Clay ton, my part number was 924-704. autozone should have it for you. worse case scenario is you might have to order it if it isn't available that day

Thank you for your video. had same problem on 2002 town and country limited. switch is a little diffrent than than the one you are doing, but same procedure worked on my town and country. I had a transponder key. All I had to do is remove transponder ring from ing. switch. You might like to show how to do this in one of your videos. Again thank you for your video.

Excellant video very easy to follow and informative. Robinsonauto I have a problem with my car starting sometimes when I turn the key to the on position the Skim light comes on and the car will start and die in a few seconds. The light occasionally comes on while I drive as well. I've sprayed the ignition switch with electrical contact cleaner and that fixes it for a while and then it comes back do you think this problem has something to do with a malfunctioning ignition switch?

How do you separate the actuator pin assembly from the ignition switch? Every video I've seen makes it seem like they should just come apart, but mine will not separate.

Replaced my ignition switch today. Now car does not start just clicks/lights go out with 12.7V battery.

usually the wafers on the inside are worn down by the springs....either replace the springs and wafers or the whole ignition entirely

is it possible to have a tooth fall out of the tumbler? i put it back in and now my key wont go all of the way back in. any help?

You can buy the ignition actuator from Autozone for about $40 bucks. Its made by Dorman.

When I turn my key on I have accessories lights on and I have the retention but when I turn to start I have nothing it wont start at all.... somebody tried to steal my car but left behind the ignition switch..do u have a solution?

In my 2001 neon se model the lock turn freely, radio comes on but no start. Would a new lock cylinder be the fix i need?

no....you have to get the key to turn to acc so you can push the retainer in to remove the whole ignition

AutoZone..... $40 plus tax. I have a 00 Chrysler Cirrus 2.4L that had the same problem. Fixed it up and she runs like a champ
