“ It doesn’t taste like poison” made me almost spit out my tea! Life is too short to worry about every little warning, so enjoy your occasional cocktail and wine. We are all going to die of something. My mom started smoking when she was twelve! Hardcore and she died at the age of 88, and it wasn’t from cancer or smoking or an occasional cocktail. She was tired and worn out but lived a great life. Love your idea of a new way to get together with gal pals. Wish I could go to Italy as that would be a dream, but I’ll live vicariously through the ones that go. You look so cute and perky today! Enjoy the weekend.

@@marthabrunet9456 same here, both of my grandmothers and all of my great grandmothers lived until there 90s, one smoked her whole life as you said and my Italian one had a glass of wine every night with dinner! Common sense! Since Covid I am very skeptical of any organization telling us of what to do! Let’s use our brains and annoy what is important! God family, friends and art!! You brighten every Saturday with Sat Chat Lindsey!!

My grandmother was a heavy smoker and "drank like a gentleman". She also had a very high fat diet and few veggies. She died quietly in her sleep in her mid 80's. Two close friends of mine, who did everything "right" got cancer. While I certainly don't advocate getting sloshed every night, a single glass of wine after a stressful day is probably doing more good than harm, as stress (according to the NIH) also promotes cancer.

When my son was in 3rd grade (he's 33 now) my mom took him with her to her painting 'group' (a group of artists that met several times a week to paint for several hours). It was summer and he was out of school. When I came home from work that day my mother was so excited to show me what he had done. The group painted a blue heron amongst lily pads and reeds and they had set him up with supplies so he could paint along. No one had any idea that he would do anything but make a mess but everyone insured me he worked completely independently. His heron was unbelievable and actually better than moms. It was done in oil pastel and I totally freaked out. Not even taking in his amazing artwork, I instead went on a rant about the potential toxicity of the product and his exposure. When I finally really looked at the art it is truly amazing and you'd never believe it was the work of a child. It is framed and will always be displayed in my home. He never again attempted any kind of artwork. I caused that.

I agree with Lindsay, it is hard to be a parent. One time my mother-in-law was reading a scary story to all the grandkids and I pulled my 4 year old son away. I did not want him exposed to the scary story. But he would have remembered more, having grandma read to him with his cousins. Sigh. We do what we think is best at the time. I am sorry your son did not continue in art. Interesting though, my son is an author!

Love Sat Chat. As most of your viewers said to please enjoy your life. The WHO changes its view every couple of minutes. In the article it said that there are no studies that say the benefits of light to moderate drinking of beneficial effects on cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes outweigh the risks for cancer. I remember a time when eggs were evil. Now they are the super food. Everything in moderation. The environment supposedly causes cancer. Cannot constantly worry about everything. My husband’s grandmother lived to be 101 and she had a glass of red wine everyday. Enjoy life because things can change in the blink of an eye. Hope this helps relieve your stress. Oh by the way, stress can cause cancer😅.

Do you also believe in moderation with exposure to asbestos, consumption of tobacco, and unhealthy levels of radiation? Alcohol is a Category 1A Carcinogen - - which is the same category with tobacco, asbestos, and radiation. There is no "healthy" or "moderate" amount of alcohol that is good for your body. It is toxic. This has been well documented since the early 1980s by the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) and more recently by the WHO (World Health Organization). If you choose to imbibe, you need to do so fully aware of this fact.

Lindsay, Everything can eventually cause cancer...it may take 137 years but there is still that little risk. So, do we avoid everything that we enjoy for fear of what might happen or go forward enjoying those things that bring us joy now, in this life, and stop stressing about what might happen in 100 years? When I'm 100 years old I don't think the one thing that will concern me is that I should not have had that Mai Tai or that Mojito on my birthday in 1963! I agree...cocktails are just so darn pretty all garnished up like little paintings and tasting so good and fruity. So Lindsay, have a drink and quit worrying about it!

Processed, manufactured food is a bigger culprit when it comes to cancer. It's perfectly safe to have cocktails and wine in moderation. All my docs tell me not to stop it helps relax the mind and body and I have a lot health issues not caused by anything I did growing up. Life isn't planned things happen we have no control over. It's worse for the brain to and body to worry. I am reminded of that by my daughter who studied the brain she is a Neuropsychologist, All we can do is keep happy I don't mean drunk happy, just relaxed happy lol. I had to go totally dry about two years ago due to medications and health reasons. I thought I would miss is and resent those that could still enjoy what I felt like I had to give up, but I don't. I have found so much joy in not only feeling better, but in exploring the world of mocktails and zero proof products. I have come up with so many crazy zero alcohol drinks that I would never have even thought to try had it not been for this circumstance in my life. Also have found some alcohol removed wines and at least one N/A beer that I like. They're still treats. I treat them like candy or soda, I occasionally enjoy them. Best part is that they don't make me feel gross. I can still use extracts, so a trace from a few drops is obviously fine. And the 0.5% or less that is in alcohol removed beverages doesn't make me feel gross (also only having a single serving). Cooking with alcohol kills it, so wonder if I could still do that. Good question for my doctor next time. Welcome to the dry club. Come on in, the water is fine and the drinks tase great. They can also be made to just as pretty as their alcoholic counterpart. Cheers! 😎

That says a lot about your relationship with the Paul Rubens company that they're taking your concerns into consideration and pursuing it. Very commendable. I don't have much taste for alcohol, but will have something occasionally. A lot of wines have sulfites so I wonder if that's where those problems might lie? Plus many have sugars which are said to feed cancers. That could be what they're factoring in. Your tea cards are really pretty. Those would be nice get well ideas, too. Also, I also remember when it was said to have one glass of red wine with dinner was actually cardioprotective data is always changing as more studies are done and there is more and more time goes by, but I would look at those endemic countries that is part of their day-to-day routine and if they don’t have a cancer, the rest of the world I would say having two glasses of wine a weekis probably not that bad

I started without a deposit. Well I hope to finish painting it, but it is not “for” any particular person. So yes it sits in my computer room aside the printer table wrapped in a plastic bag. I don’t believe that you should limit yourself based on a government classification! You should enjoy yourself and a glass of anything is going to bring on a cancerous growth!. You are drinking pure ethanol or methanol, and you are not consuming liters of wine or vodka, so you would be fine. Enjoy you weekly drink 🍹! P.S. I work in regulatory affairs and I looked at the classification of ethanol, yes, it is classified as carcinogen but it is due to some impurities, and it is most likely the higher concentration. I love sat chat. Probably more than tutorials because I don't feel guilty not painting along :). I did get a notification about the watercolour month video live, really really wanted to watch it...then my friend came over that I don't see very often and I just didn't have the heart to tell him to come back in an hour, I even saw it starting and I was so upset. Would have been such a great video to be part of. Oh well. Hopefully next time. I love lives, and since I stopped watching true crime i treasure them even more. Thank you for spending time with us, I sincerely hope your weather improves and your mood is lifted , it makes everything so hard when we are down. Don't be too hard on yourself, we only live once so we might as well enjoy it :). We can't avoid everything that's "bad" for us and the science keeps changing on what's beneficial what's harmful anyway. I'm sure snacking on couple oil pastels a day won't kill us immediately:). Have a wonderful rest of the weekend everyone.

I promise you the occasional or even regular once or twice a week cocktail or glass of wine isn't going to increase your risk. It's your overall health and how you live that increases your risk. There's a lot of factors so you are probably pretty safe from cancer despite how they are classified. Enjoy life. You only get one and it's too short to live in fear.

I didn't know alcohol is a carcinogen. That is a bummer. But on the blue zones website it says, "We know from blue zones centenarians that this is true: People in four original blue zones areas drink alcohol moderately and regularly. The trick is to drink one to two glasses per day with friends and/or with food."

Lindsay, you maybe worry more because you want to watch out for all of us- cadmiums & product warnings, but now also your private enjoyment as well! Just go with the adage “ in moderation” and handle with care the few consumable items that are not 100% baby safe that you do imbibe, & you will be fine. My father didn’t really worry about Health nor did he do anything except have walks after dinner and we’re talking slow walks- His generation did not do much -yet he lived to be 100! I followed all the health precautions, fitness, ideas about eating well and embraced pescatarian-ism, yet I did get breast cancer at the age of 63! However, I must say it is not so scary and worrying today as it used to be. 1year after the discovery and I am doing fine. It doesn’t affect me in the least. It was a little blip on my wellness meter. So ladies let’s enjoy our lives a little bit - but just don’t overdue. And maybe we can find our joy in mostly good things like love of our kids & grandkids, & our passion for art!

Thank you for this. I hear cancer and think "slow agonizing death" probably because I have very little faith in the American sick care system being able to catch or treat anything in time. I probably have an irrational fear, but I tried to get a primary care doctor, and the only place I could find taking new patients had a 6 month wait to get in. I think somehow insurance companies limit the number of doctors, so people vacant use their insurance 😆 Luckily, I haven't needed a doctor for illness in decades, and I go yearly to my obgyn, but he is 74! I don't know what I'll do when he retires.

You don't need to make 50 cards, not at all. I make the most for Christmas. Otherwise I make a handful of birthdays and anniversaries, and any thank you, congrats or sympathy cards as needed. I usually don't even batch make birthday cards either but tailor them for the people I make them for. This year though, I got that vintage tv die set that came out, so I made tv cards and used photos from favorite moments for the tv screens. I had a seperate stampset with a film theme and used the clapboard and wrote in details of the pic, and film strips. I used different colors for each person and made 8 or 9 cards with that. It was a theme for this year lol. And yeah, everything in moderation. Enjoy what you love. There are people who are strict health nuts who develop terminal illnesses and there are people who smoke and drink and live to 95. And as far as what organizations offer health info, beware of political-bent info because it's meant to terrify you into a corner. Seek neutral and complete info. If they leave out info, ditch em.

What I have found annoying about exercising is how hard it is to see results. I had been working in it for a month or two and was getting discouraged, until my partner and I went for a Sunday drive. We found this beatiful river with a rocky beach, and decided to stretch our legs by walking out to the river to get a closer look. It was *much* farther than we thought it was, and my partner started getting tired before I did, which is not what had happened in the past (usually I got tired or sore first and we'd stop.)

I am terrified of getting cancer. I did more reading on thevcdc and cancer.gov and they said light drinkers (1-2 glasses of wine a week) have a 1.2 fold (120%!) Increase in cancers and heavy drinkers (5+ drinks a week for women) have a 5 fold increase! Yikes! And it takes 16 years of not drinking to reduce the cancer risk to the level of never drinkers. I feel bad about unknowingly harming myself. I feel stupid for not knowing. Ugh.

As always it was a fun video and we've all been there and like Alice gone down those weird rabbit holes and at the end questioning why we did it in the first place! 😂 Speaking of Alice I can't wait to see that video, because what a great idea and they looked lovely! Warning Do Not Read anymore if you don't want to know and would rather live in blissful unknown. I don't want to upset anyone or cause anxiety. Back to the rabbit holes we wish we hadn't gone down and carcinogenics birth control is also one and the longer you are on it the worse it is. They stopped the male birth control for side effects that weren't near as bad as ours. 😢 Finding out we have lead and arsenic in tampons that go in our body was shocking, but even more so they never even checked for metals before now. Frustrating. The birth controls that have synthetic estrogen and progestogen are a group 1 carcinogens and make us susceptible to cancer especially breast and cervical. Taken from the world health forum

I don't want to live until I'm really old. All your friends are dead, family is too busy to deal with you and you can't do anything you used to do. I'm in my 60s and I just live my life. If I want to eat or drink something that isn't always a good choice, if I really want it I do it anyway and don't fret over it. I also don't get mammograms anymore. Why give myself doses of radiation for nothing? If I go in 10 or 15 years I'm okay with that now. I'm not okay with constantly being in a doctor's office and on 20 different meds. I'm better for it, too. Enjoy your life. It's far too short to be in a constant state of worry over things that would probably not happen anyway. I read a study that said over 80% of elderly people get cancer in some form. We all go sometime. Accept that and you'll be a lot more relaxed about your life. ❤

I hardly ever drink. I used to have migraines but now it's because it just makes me feel unwell. I think if you avoid alcohol, even the minor amounts you consume, you'll find you feel better overall because of it, including with the anxiety issues. If nothing else, alcohol does tax your liver heavily because it is a toxin, which is why people get hangovers. And any studies showing a health BENEFIT to alcohol were bogus. It isn't good for you in so many ways. That said, I know a couple of oncologists who see cancer patients daily of course, who know their deep history including their alcohol consumption -- and these doctors drink occasionally. If mild alcohol consumption had an unambiguous path to cancer that they saw every day, they probably wouldn't drink. If you have a strong cancer risk in your family, it wouldn't be a bad idea to stop. Otherwise, maybe cut back, but don't stop that occasional use, if you enjoy it. Life is all about risks. Your risk of dying in a car accident is probably higher than it is from getting cancer via occasional alcohol use. Repeat after me....reeeeee-laaaaaaaax. Enjoy your week.

Lindsay- we need to stop being so overprotective of kids when it comes to art, if we only give them “ safe” supplies they will never learn how to treat the potentially dangerous supplies. I honestly believe that when kids are doing art they should use the exact same supplies as any adult would use. Not the kid friendly “ safe non toxic” junk. Because not only do they not learn how to handle supplies- we all know kids supplies aren’t great. Being limited to those safe supplies I truly believe kills the desire to create
@thefrugalcrafter
@thefrugalcrafter Месяц назад
That's fine if they are your kids and they know how to use the stuff properly. I'm not going to donate potentially toxic supplies to a school and hope they teach them materials safety. You can only control what you personally teach and supervise. Recommending a product to a grandparent to give to a child is different, and I won't have that on my conscience. My kids used my supplies and knew how to handle them. Many patents don't have the education in art materials.
