This work has been described as a mixture of mime, folk dance and acrobatics, a friendly satire on a popular sport (called football everywhere except in the United States where it is called Soccer). The teams meet in mind-field in a furious combat. After a scrimmage they indulge in some violent arguments while the goalkeeper makes a spectacular save. At the end they finally come together for the local photographer to take their picture. Football had its United States premier on the first Moiseyev Dance Company tour in 1958.
