Great video Tom. My 140 came with the bent draft control rod when Daddy bought it and the only time its ever off is when I take the fast hitch off to cultivate taller stuff. I haven't used one but I like the McCormick 184 planter much better. Jtwes has one on his channel. I have the North Carolina tobacco special gas gauge on my 140, a piece of a broken tobacco stick. 😁
Hey Tom, the Cole planters were very popular here in N.C. from what I've seen and so were the IH 184's as well. There were also a lot of the ''Belly'' planters.... various makes too. I have an IH 186 fast-hitch planter for my 100! It takes some time setting them up correctly but some do work better/more efficiently than others. Thanks for sharing!
I had a 174? Runner planter for my Cub, but I sold it because I couldn’t use the Cub for much else when it was on . I think the Cole would work better in Sandy soil with less rocks, but the important part is keeping weight on that packing wheel. Thank You for watching
Any surface on the cole planter that touches the ground needs to be polished smooth. Play with the angle to get the compaction wheel to work properly.. Great video.
Hey Tom I also have to ask. The soil does seem too moist for that planter to work as intended. I understand you can’t wait for ideal conditions. Regardless, thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience.
Yes it does. It’s been really crappy weather here this season. It rains for a week and then we get about 2 days of sun. It’s been really tough trying to get hay in too😕
@@LedgemereHeritageFarm Our weather has been weird for the season as well. Too dry. We did get about a half inch yesterday, enough to save some green in the lawn. More tomorrow, maybe. Good luck with your hay.
Tom, thanks for the video and review. I saw a planter like this at a local second hand store. I thought about buying it but didn't know if plates from our Cole Duplex planter would fit it. I also didn't have a 3pt hitch at the time. I do have a Super A with an IH Duplex seed hopper and an IH A-178 or A-180 belly planter. The best thing about Cole is that they’re still in business. There may be something on their website or you could email them and ask? I have a lot of Cole plates for this planter. It replaced the Cole unit planter I had that someone has fabricated a 3-point hitch on. Thank You for watching and I’ll check out your link
I think so, provided you get the right amount of pressure on the packing wheel. This is my 5th year using a Cole, I had a 3-point hitch one previously that worked ok. It takes a few minutes to correctly dial in your fast hitch. Thank you for watching
