I did MBA from tier 3 bschool in 2009, couldn't land a job because of Lehman crash. After 15 years, I am earning very well infact much better from the ones who grabbed offer from campus. It is how you play with your options and choices you make. I am not ashamed to admit that being MBA helped my profile picked out of lot many applicants. But at the end, it is your skills , hard work and the LUCK. Just because I have tik tok now i cannot abuse my bachelors degree done in different time. Hope people get it.

Completely one sided opinion for the following reasons: 1) Not considering colleges like FMS and IITS. Focus is only on ISB and PGPX (Not even core MBA program of IIMA) 2) Scaring students in the name of elections. What if it is favourable, equally beneficial right? 3) Future prediction for 2025: What if any other pandemic or natural disaster comes or any or anything else happens. Maybe you are not even alive in the next year lol. You should never lose an opportunity on the basis of predictions that makes no sense. 4) Bad ROI for MBA then let’s talk about medical and engineering these days. IITD kids are settling for 10 LPA so students should stop studying and doing their undergrad as well? Also, ROI is not an year thing. 5) And the market was really down last year. So maybe you should make a video on why people who did MBA last year will fail in getting good career.
@rohitsharma5527
@rohitsharma5527 Месяц назад
I agree with you on having holistic/long term view of doing MBA rather than fluctuating market conditions. Would just like to correct on one point: only the one-year programs from ISB, IIMs are considered MBA by global standards. All rankings you see for FT, QS, Economist are given for the 1-year program. The two year program are graded as MIMs. The rationale behind is obvious today- an MBA without good experience on your resume is only theoretical and not a great learning experience.

1. Top B-schools struggling to place their students: True, the job market is tough right now, but the brand value of IIMs pays off in the long run. Even during COVID, the top IIMs didn't face significant difficulties and are still thriving. Despite lockdowns, SP Jain, IIM l , FMS and many other top B-schools have released placement reports for the current batch, and while there may be a slight decrease in placements, it's still decent enough to kickstart careers, with opportunities for growth in the future. Also, ISB is the only school charging over 40L in fees, and he only mentions this college as a reference. Mind you, the average fees of any IIM or B-school is around 25L, with an average package of 30L+, so you're still getting better ROI. Plus, you pay fees for 2 years and get a salary for as long as you work, not just for one year, and you also get incremental increases. Furthermore, if you're continuously mentioning the top few colleges of ISB, then mention FMS, which charges only 2L in fees with a 30L+ package. Show both sides of the coin, buddy. This is blatant manipulation.

Hi Pavan, I cannot completely agree with one of your points that if the placment situation in Tier I B schools is grave now, the situation in Tier 2 and Tier 3 will be even worse. I would say the supply demand chemistry of Tier 1 colleges are fairly different from that of Tier 2, Tier 3 colleges. The profiles that the company come for in Tier 2 and Tier 3 colleges are different. A few examples can be IT Business Analyst, Sales profile in BFSI or Operations job in BFSI. Basically a role far away from the word "strategy", "M & A" bluh bluh. Such roles cost less and hence company will be able to offer. Also such roles are available due to organic businss growth of the companies even if there is no major expansion happening in the companies. But once kick started with such role and profile, the individual from Tier 2 and Tier 3 college has all possibilities and resources available in the universe to help him throttle through professional career. In a era of information, an individual from Tier 2 and Tier 3 college can avail all kind of certifications, short term courses to enrich and equip himself along with his ongoing job role. Career is a long journey and the storm of Tier 2 and Tier 3 event in a candidate's life may not work act as an eclipse all throughout his life. Obviously hard work and availing the right opportunties can wipe out the eclipse of having a degree from Tier 2 or Tier 3. I have many many examples is what I can say. I am just sharing my experience as one the perspectives. But many thanks for our informative video.

MBA from a good college does work wonders , all influencers shout ROI ROI ... it's the dumbest thing ever ... You pay thru the 2 years , you earn for 30-35 years after that ... Not everyone has super skills without a formal higher education , not all can get into FMS or jbims or IITs, .... Return on investment needs to be calculated over years and I haven't heard of anyone in this entire world from a tier 1 or top tier 2 college ever struggling in life for job, money or career opportunities ... Coupled with hardwork , MBA can help you reach miraculously high in your career and your life ... Period.

Maybe we can see a huge spike or maybe more decline it's your choice... The people entering 2022-24 doesn't know these going to happen because at that time situation was different things were good... So what if entering in 2024 or 2025 will end good ??? It's on you... And one more thing i want to highlight... If you come under top 25% students in the class you are still getting around 25-30lpa which is not bad... Once the situation make u-turn you'll get back on track asap... It's totally your choice... I am going inside in 2025 no matter what... I will work my ass off i will get myself in top 25% i will do whatever i can to get highest possible opportunity ❤

Dude. 80% of seats in IIMs are reserved so how can you say they are finding it difficult to place the batch it's because of the tough job market. It's all because of reservations and undeserving people flooding the IIMs. Also, I don't think that IIMs value work experience as eventually selection is decided based on your GD and speaking skills, not your knowledge or intelligence.

Make sure that along with your core tech skills(mech) you also develop team management skills(that will happen when you have at least 3+ years of tech experience) With that background i.e tech + team management skills, doing an MBA will greatly help you to absorb what the course is trying to teach you. You'll get access to opportunities which is not available to just about anyone. So in the long run your ROI is going to be good.

Hi Pavan, I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your video. It was great, especially in comparison to what many others are saying about pursuing an MBA in the current job market. However, I noticed that there is a key issue that needs to be addressed in your argument. You seem to be confusing PGDM courses with PGPX/ISB courses. In PGPX courses, there is no issue with work experience. However, in one-year courses, the problem of career pivoting still remains, which is why people who want to pivot into different domains usually look for options outside of India. Another point I want to highlight is that while it is true that the job market is not in great shape right now, and placements are down compared to last year, what options do freshers (from lower tier colleges) and those with 1-2 years of work experience have in such a market? If they have a good job option in hand, then they should definitely continue with their job. However, if they don't have such options, doing a PGDM makes sense. You only do your MBA once, so making an informed choice is key. However, one shouldn't disregard it just on the basis of the current job market. Look at it from the current graduating batch's perspective, they entered into an MBA during a stellar market, yet they are facing trouble right now. So, everyone should do their own due diligence before making such a decision. It is indeed true that the current job market is in a poor condition, and it is also true that top colleges are still offering a 30 LPA average package. The choice is yours to make.

@@PavanSathiraju Yeah, I'm with you on that. PGPX folks don't really need to do an MBA at the moment since they have the opportunity to keep working in comparatively better roles. But for PGDM students, it's a bit more complicated because the other choices aren't all that great either.

So what's the solution? What should a fresher do? You mentioned the job crisis and good opportunities after masters, but what about those who graduated from tier 2-3 colleges? This video reeks of manipulation. LET ME GIVE YOU A SUGGESTION The whole world is facing recession, making it the perfect time to pursue your masters. These 2 years, you don't have to settle for low pay or undesirable jobs; it's the ideal time to further your education and be prepared for the market and placements when you join in 2026, when the situation improves. And hey, buddy, we don't pursue MBA just for a fat paycheck; it's way more than that. So stop deceiving people. Jai Hind.

In India, very few people get jobs after A commerce degree. Even Bulge bracket banks that hire from good colleges, mostly offer ops roles. While you can certainly excel in a capacity in those roles, exposure might be limited. Do you think that will have detrimental effect on the B- school applications for international school, even if the work ex is in, lets say Goldman? How can we make up for it. A lot of people are alos from good front end PE VC roles

Agree with you but what i am seeing in the market is fresher from good b school in India earns more than 3,4 year experienced professional who has more skills and have more impact on project. I personally observed in my team that IIM guy who makes same ppt and doing same work gets paid 2X more than my other team mate but in actual that experienced team mate (not from IIM) gets lot of appreciation for his good work and more project value addition. Brand Matters !!!

Great Research! Work ex is indeed an overlooked aspect when it comes to Indian b schools and it will definitely have an impact during recruitment(for someone who's trying to make a pivot) especially during the downtimes which is clearly highlighted in the video. One more important point mentioned is the increase in class size. One may look at this as a positive aspect thinking that now we have a lot of people to network with. That is true to an extent, but recruiters can't give a job to everyone

Afterwards start own business and sell products needed by same customers to them and enjoy life for rest of life expanding business. Get one driver. Car. Travel for few years like hell for your own business and game set. More you travel more fast you collect funds back and rotate and grow MBA degree to learn tricks , by 30 start own business. okay so my persepective to the roi battle is completely different let's suppose you pay something around 24 lakhs pa for your mba and u bag a 28 lpa who the hell thinks it's a bad offer like why are we running over getting the roi in the same year like even if i pay 30 lakhs and get a job of 30 lakhs forget 1 year the next year u cover the amt you invested and now after working for 2 years if you feel like changing the company u would look for a little higher package and shift where is the problem like why do we want offers which are like 18 lakhs fees and a package of 48 lakhs like okay that's a great offer but in my opinion something like a 24 for a 30 is also quite good so i don't think so mba is bad as an option

1) MBA is a business degree. If you can't calculate your ROI & just say "We will do something good in life anyways", you need to reconsider your choices. 2) Understanding multiple perspectives and taking an informed decision is what you will learn in MBA.
