A beautiful Finnish puukko knife, so comfortable in hand too. The handle is made up of stacked discs of birch bark, with leather and brass. The blade is a traditional carbon steel.
Gorgeous piece. I built one a while back from a similar Lauri blade. I thought it would be a bit small at first but that size and blade shape is actually a very very handy and capable tool!
Thanks for this review of a very attractive knife. Although it is beautifully made, in particular, having a birch bark grip, the blade looks as though it is actually designed for use. Have you used it , and if so, how did it perform?
56 is more than enough for a knife like this, it has purpose of its own, it is not meant to be some banger you whack everything with, it is for carving, processing, food prep, gutting, skinning etc. what have you. These things have bigger brother called Leuku, those are bit different thing. To put it short, you don't want it to be too hard as you will use it a lot so you find your self sharpening it a lot, no matter is it 60 or 56 HRC. Out in the bush, which would you like? I mean really, sharpening some 60 HRC knife in the wild is nothing you really want to waste your time with when you have work to do, and these are working knifes.
