To say ikaruga requires skill is an understatement. Very few people are able to 1 coin clear this game even on the lower difficulties, never mind hard

It was an homage. The developers of this game got their start with SEGA, and this game was even developed on SEGA hardware.

My jaw dropped when I noticed the Ikaruga references, only wish they didn't spoil it first with the Tails mission before the true final boss. The music even gave me the same vibes, both have such great soundtracks.
