The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Man Tina and her backup dancers are more like athletes than entertainers.. the amount of energy they put into this song with singing and dancing is amazing. I can't imagine doing it for a whole 2 hour concert. All 4 women look amazing and their arms are so tone and defined I can't help to notice. I have so much respect for Tina and her backup singers.

Not only that, Tina was performing with cracked ribs, and ringing ears most of the time because Ike beat her all the time. To this day Tina is an incredible person who doesnt play the victim even though she truly was a victim of violence and abuse. She is happy and living in Europe with her husband.

Her hurting didn’t even show. Good thing Tina got her happy ever after in the end. It may seem like Tina ended up dirt poor after her divorce with Ike (desperately leaving everything to Ike as long as she kept the Turner to her name) but her healing and reborn from the ashes started there.

I remember seeing a show she did shortly after she left Ike. She was nearly starting over, playing smaller venues. I kind of thought she was washed up...then I saw the performance. Incredible! I was blown away. Then, after watching "What's Love..." and saw her life's story - wow! I was so pleased that she achieved so much success with "Private Dancer" and her new string of hits. She was an inspiration to so many, especially women who were dragged through hell by abusive monsters like Ike. I believe she died with peace of mind and pride. That's a pretty nice end to a great life lived.

Damn good! 53 years ago! Ed Sullivan should be given credit for not only booking the very best rock talent, but also raising the bar for the absolute best video quality, sound mixing, production, and sets. The camera work was amazing in this video. The way the girls come out in the foreground and all get into position with the camera following them and then getting a great view. Perfect. That performance required a hell of a lot of practice and planning by all involved. If any are still alive...a big thank you!

I am so thankful that I got to see Ike & Tina live back in the early 70's at U.D. Arena in Dayton. One of the BEST concerts I EVER attended and I have been to hundreds over the years. They played over 2+ hours of kickass music! Had front row seats and it was INCREDIBLE!

It doesn't matter how many times I watch ANY footage of Tina---and boy did she KEEP it for SO LONG---I am simply MESMERIZED by HER!!! IKE & TINA KNEW HOW TO create & put on a show. They created those routines, costumes, make-up, hair. The band, the back-up dancers. These people were PROFESSIONALS! Attention to DETAIL---JUST ASTOUNDINGLY good! I know things in life were not great for Tina with Ike, BUT boy did they carve out a name for themselves in the music world AND Tina grabbed that baton and kept ROLLING DOWN THE RIVER!!!! Miss her SO MUCH!!! The QUEEN. NO ONE has or will ever do it better.

Tina was a power house and Ike was jealous of her because that. That’s why I think he abused her, he was insecure so he had to beat her down so he can feel “bigger” than her.

B.B. King said Ike Turner was the best bandleader he ever saw. Ike played piano on his early recordings. He was very talented and always had a tight band. He made sure Tina had a great supporting cast. So many talented musicians and singers started with Ike and Tina. Jimi Hendrix was even briefly in their band.
