Hey I did a longer video of IKEA Buy This Not That that covers other items too. Check it out! 👉 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_d_ZCLEcqXs.html
I bought some bamboo stalks when they had a major clearance on them, and those babies just keep growing strong! Perfect for those who can’t keep plants alive either, just fresh their water every now and then. I have them in an old glass soda bottle lol 😅
Thank you! I will try bamboo. I looooove plants, but sadly, plants hate me with a passion. I've killed so many "unkillable" plants. Cactus, mother-in-law's-tongue, aloe, air plants, spider plants, the list goes on. I follow directions religiously, but they take one look at me and suicide.
This. 10 years so far here. Was a gift for a family member. Became mine after their passing. Original vase and rocks from IKEA. Occasionally cleaning out of algae, but those suckers are invasive and resilient! Longest relationship. 😅
Personally i prefer independent nurseries for plants. It supports small businesses, the workers generally know what theyre talking about and can give you good suggestions, and they have a larger variety
I disagree on the fake plants. My husband has over 250 real house plants that all go out in the spring. Till they’re back inside in autumn, we’ve placed the fake ikea plants all over. Most of them are great. They haven’t lost colour and don’t look cheap. Compared to the ones you’d find at other stores. We love the Fejka collection! Can totally recommend.
Me too! I recommend them very much! And I promise that they dont loose colour, because all of my fejka has been in sunny Windows for years and, they have not lost any colour❤
As a picture framer, DO NOT buy Ribba, at least in sizes larger than ~9x12. They are literally made of pressed paper, and swell and bow and separate at the corners. You’re better off getting a higher quality metal or wood frame in a standard size that works with the size of your space. Looks better longer and can be reused with a new mat and/or print if you want to change the artwork
I used to use cheap IKEA frames for my pictures and was wondering about how safe they were for my precious artwork and photographs. I think I’m going to go with using higher quality frames chosen from the thrift store instead
@@scareglareconsider seeking out a good framer in your area if the pieces are precious. Each piece and circumstance is unique. A decent framer will help you navigate all that. I will mention though that with paper pieces, ideally keep it from touching a wood frame as the acid and lignin damage the art. There are ways to prevent it, but metal frames don’t contain these in the first place and come in lots of styles now, even wrapped in engineered wood veneer so you get the best of both worlds. Best of luck!
@@spungegirl Thank you for the thoughtful advice, appreciate it! Isn't it wild how many people put their precious memories/photographs into cheaply made, super acidic photo albums? Digital archives are a godsend but we can't forget the physical component. Appreciate your advice, please have a lovely day internet friend
WRONG! "I love a bargain just as much as you do." Incorrect! I can prove it if you come to my cheaply decorated house-- that's why I'm here. Thank you Professor.
I have 3 of the giant photo canvases from Ikea: Paris, Amsterdam and London. They came from my husband’s bachelor pad. One day I’ll get to DIYing some art overtop of the print, I’m just not into the abstract art tutorials I see online. One day inspiration will strike and I will definitely level them up!
I disagree on the ribba frames. I bought them a while back and they are impossible to hang bec of the space between the sawtooth hanging piece and where it hits the wall. Had to rig up a wire and it’s just frustrating. Also the seams in the corners started bubbling out way too fast for my liking…
@@matthewcreelman1347 I do the same thing! I put them in nice frames and I get compliments from guests who don't know I took the photo (I love scenery photos!)
I disagree regarding the photo of Amsterdam It doesn't have to be 'art', it just needs to give afeeling or atmosphere... And then - who cares what or how many others are doing with it (I used to live in Amsterdam. That picture tqkes me ther every time I miss Amsterdam+ as I don't live there anymore)
If you want a cheap canvas to paint over go to a thrift store..... Also why buy paintings? It is so easy to follow painting tutorials. I've done paintings that are in completely different styles the first time I ever tried them because I just followed a step-by-step tutorial.
appatently this guy desides what looks good and what looks bad, as if it's anything other than pure preferens. what is he, proffesor of how people decorate their own homes?
Chill a bit and do something else. It's his shtick for those who like it. What you said is true of every advice giver. I listen for ideas and then do what I like.
guys these videos are for people who want their space to look nice if you don’t care how your place looks just skip. everything he’s saying is true lol.

Zamioculcas zamiifolia is a plant that needs water once a month . It looks good and doesn’t need any love or attention. The only plant my sister can keep alive and she was once out of town for 2 months and when she got back that plant was thriving😂
@@minttummn I still have one of these plants that I’ve kept for almost 10 years. It once went 8 months without water or care, and was moved with me in the back of a pickup truck and suffered severe windburn and broken stems. It’s now 3.5 ft tall and thriving. They really are a great plant for beginners, I can attest to that
I just bought a really cute fake plant from Ikea last week and a pink pot to put it in and as long as you don't like examine it too closely, it looks really nice and just adds a little ambiance. I deal with pretty bad depression so real plants are not safe in my hands lol
I'm sitting in my painting studio with 6 paper lanterns. They diffuse the light so nicely and you can just replace them when they get too dusty. Can't stand ever seeing a naked lightbulb in any way, even through caning. I don't care if my house looks like a sushi restaurant, I like sushi. I love Noguchi too, even though these are not his.
I think they could also be really nice if they were tie-dyed to coordinate with the colors of the room. I don’t know how easy it would be to do that, but I think it’s worth a try
I bought the paper lamp years and years ago, it looks great still and works in my living room. It’s just a matter of taste I guess, but I don’t regret getting it and I’m going to buy 2 more.
I used the fake plants from IKEA as sensory items for kids when I worked in childcare. They're sturdy enough to hold up to a whole classroom of early preschoolers, and they honestly don't look that bad, and certainly better looking than lots of the sensory items I've seen.
Thats a great idea!! The cactus and succulents ones always fool me as well as the orchid flowers. Id say in a kitchen any fake flowers always seem to end up catching dust but for kids!! Or the elderly too. My mom forgets to water things but loved flowers.
Regolit until I die. At 3 quid new money I have zero guilt when I get bored and change it up - I can bin them. I have several industrial metal pendants in my garage that cost a bomb but didn't diffuse the light and did not spark joy.
Yessss, I just recently smacked the regolit lampshades onto every naked lightbulb in my flat when my roommate moved out. They are affordable, cozy, diffuse light nicely, give off a very homey student-flat vibe and I just love them. 🥰🤷♀️
I generally agree, but as a atrugglig artist, I'd argue that however common and popular it is, the print is still art. Photography is a type of art, imo, and it's a really nice photo even though I wouldn't hang it in my space
I absolutely love how this dude goes "Well I don't particularly like this art so it's not actually art and you shouldn't have it in your house cuz it's ugly" like really? I don't like this dude's hairstyle so should he go change it???
Plastic plants, 😬! Better to have no plants than fake plants, imho. When I was young & broke, I'd dig up & bring home pretty weeds, plants & blooming branches found alongside wooded roads. Kept a bucket & spade in the car trunk for when I spotted a gem. 🌼🌹🌿
Similar also mine have fallen off the wall more times than I can count. The hanging thing popped right now and hanging it by the frame itself just causes the top bar of the frame to fall off
Cacti are harder to keep alive than some house plants, because you can easily over water them. I have about 100 plants and only 2 of them are cacti and they’re my biggest struggle!
Me too bro. 4 plastic plants from ikea in my bedroom rn. Every flower I revieved (in a pot already) had died within a week lol. Poor plants, but they wont die anymore cuz I wont keep them in here
@@TheLuckvegasWhen you see them in person a few really stand out as nicer quality and more realistic. I also place them at a distance from where a person would be sitting. Not everyone can take care of plants.
I don't care that a million people might have the same furniture and home accessories I have. If it looks good and I feel good in my home, that's all that matters.
Hey just a disclaimer for everyone to know: Ikea is NOT the best place to buy plants. Behind cheap and trendy plants from stores like these (and I know it especially for Ikea) there is an extremely dirty industry behind that not only pollutes heavily but also introduces exotic plants where they are not supposed to be. So please think twice before buying such a plant and especially before simply replacing one and consider just taking small plant shoots from friends or other people in your surroundings!
For me, as a Swede, I think Ribba is as boring and clumsy as a old Lack table. Not sleek at all. 🤪 They have much sleeker frames that is as cheap. At least in Sweden.
I love the fact that you brought up the cheap art buys, from the bottom or an Artist’s heart I’m so very grateful! Your advice is phenomenal, I can’t get enough of it.
Even if it's overused, I like it. I found the giant photo in question next to a dumpster when my neighbor moved. I used to live in Europe as a kid and I miss it. It warms my heart to look at it. 💜 I look at it and wonder what people's lives are like in the house boats, if they're just for every once in a while, or all the time. I wonder what it would be like to stand on the porch of that one houseboat. I wonder what a person in the background is doing and when someone is finally going to empty that bin. 😆 I never knew that this photo was so hated until I saw his video on it. No one goes in my room, where it's hanging, and I wouldn't care either way. I've loved photography my whole life and especially cityscapes with very little / no people. Maybe one day I'll grow tired of it like everyone else. Today, tomorrow, another year from now, is not the day 😆 I can't really afford any decor unless it's next to the dumpster or less than $5 at a charity shop. So this free thing brings me joy and is special to me.
I used to do custom framing and do not recommend the Ikea frames. Theyre hard to use, and fall apart quickly. Especially if something IS a special irreplaceeable piece, these frames are not it
First of all: that's still real art. There's no fake art. Second: Don't buy art at Ikea. I've seen the same photos for over a decade there. They're not timeless. You can probably buy your favourite off of eBay for much less if not free. I agree with the rest.
Oh no, I literally had the Amsterdam bicycle picture on my wall (got it when I was like 14- I then soon realised it’s a sad dull picture, even if I liked Amsterdam)
Nick Lewis: "The Vilshult is not even real art." Dutch People: But we made a documentary about it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pD0EPtBGuOU.html
I swore I would never have fake plants or flowers in my house. Then one day, I saw a big, spectacular arrangement of gorgeous silk tulips, iris, and paper whites. The quality those tiny Asian fingers make is breathtaking! It weren't cheap 🙄 Ten years on, it still looks like spring in New England to me. BTW clean them with a cheap bristle paintbrush.
Sorry but IKEA fake plants are the best and most affordable ones out there! Most look very real. Both the loose flowers and the leafy potted ones. The examples you showed of course don't but I've never seen those. The trick with fake plants of course is not to place them as a centerpiece on a table but somewhere in a window or higher up on a bookcase or wardrobe.
It's just an opinion like everything else he says. --> Of course, you are correct. I went to art school and I dont care if it's real art. Do I like it? Is it interesting? Investors care if it is "read art". My separate comment is a comment by e.e.cummings, a famous poet of the early 20th century who did not use capital letters if he didnt feel like it.
mr youse needn't be so spry concernin questions arty each has his tastes but as for i i likes a certain party gimme the he-man's solid bliss for youse ideas i'll match youse a pretty girl who naked is is worth a million statues
I'm sorry but the basket lamp will darken my place further. Not to mention all those little holes will collect dust and make nice homes for bugs. I lean more on the bright sphere lamp.
I think the light that looks like a paper lantern looks way better than that bird's nest looking textural nightmare that you recommended. What is wrong with you?
This guy is speaking on things that he clearly has no idea about. Dude is giving like the ugliest worst recommendations besides the plant thing that I have ever heard of.
I have a few of the plastic ikea plants, they hold up pretty nicely, obviously they’re not a pretty as real plants, but my cats leave these alone while they tend to chew on real plants and lots of plants are poisonous to cats so i’m sticking with the plastic ones 😅
