Frogenius W. Dimensional lumber 2 inches thick by 4 inches wide by 8 or more feet long. Pine or red oak 2x4s are ridiculously cheap and adaptable, and to my mind would be a better choice in a project like this-- at least for the structural bits.
She can probs wedge her fingers into the crack between the bed and the structure. They didn't say anything about covering that one hole, so there's crawlspace for sure. Hiding from murderers just got easier
Right so basically you're telling me to spend almost 800 quid on a set of storage units from Ikea just so I can then bury half of them so they are unable to be used. Aye right then mate you're off your rocker
If I were that handy I'd have just bought the first 5 cabinets that are being shown and after gotten wood for cheap and made the base since you have to put the IKEA ones together anyway.
Thought the same things, but if there was an entrance to the section under the bed + installing a nice LED light, than they would be useful as a secret chilling place (or storage)
@@kassyartsmy thoughts exactly, but i would Combine that with a slightly higher bed-platform. a high platform wich is high enough to sit under it, upright on a Chair. there could be a desk inside. another idea: arange the outside Cabinets oval, paint them submarine Grey with the bed on top and decorate everything like a submarine turret. inside and outside. this would probably work better without prefabricated Cabinets...
I feel like they could’ve just used a table for the part that they covered with carpet (the part that her and her friends could sit on aka cabinets 6-10)
I’m about to do this when i move rooms give myself some storage space. And to everyone saying the shelves are a waste if you’ll want you can always turn it around and add your own twist/adjustments to it.
@@P1_D - okay I'll give y'all a reason : So that, someday, when you have your own house, you know how the fuck you wanna do with your room.. Is that fair enough?
I would think that if you are sleeping close to the edge, the bed is going to sink in and you will be hitting the back of the uncomfortable furniture. This also makes changing the bed sheets and making the bed extremely difficult.
MGMT You would have to take the entire bed out just to change the sheets. I was thinking of telling my mom this, but then I read your comment. Most people just think about the design, not the work. You just got another subscriber because you're much smart.
Why wouldn't you just get some sort of cheaper box or frame for underneath the bed and platform? I'm sure that would've been more cost effective than using shelves that are now inaccessible.
Less than $800, boi you say it like you get the money from the government for free. Y'all know you can do something similar if you ask your nearest grocery store if they're throwing out any pallets.
Okaser1227 oh, no, not really! The ones that we used in the grocery store is pretty strong! But this was part time job days. And sometimes they're new as well! Probably power washing would do the trick and some spray coating.
As everything in this video except the language of the speaker is Swiss 800 swiss francs for this (in switzerland) isn't bad at all. Why they didn't make that clear though I'm not sure. If you look at the language on the website: it's german. the price is in chf (swiss francs) and the plugs next to the bed are swiss as well. Living expenses in switzerland are high, but these guys clearly have no idea that that is not necessarily the case elsewhere. quite embarassing as a swiss person myself.
@@phoenixrose9400 I am well aware of that. However, cost of living is much higher in Switzerland. So while 800 francs may seem cheap to a Swiss person, 800 dollars are a lot for an American.
The use of IKEA furniture made this DIY project not only pointlessly expensive, but also somewhat unsafe and not durable for the long haul. That being said, I appreciate all DIY projects and I like the idea of this. I think that different materials can be used to bring down the cost significantly and make this far more durable. Personally, I wouldn't add carpet because I have pets so it would make things more difficult to maintain, but I don't think I would like this project nearly as much without making the hard surface more comfortable in some way.
If I were to do this, I would use a simple steel bed frame (I have one from amazon) instead of supporting my bed and self on a shelf. It does seem like a good idea though.
Honestly I was waiting for them to open the cabinet on the left side revealing an opening where you can go under all of that to where the hidden storage cabinets are
I can see using some pre-fab cabinets for the exposed parts, and wood for the inaccessible parts, and well for more storage space, a piano hinge to open up the space at the foot of the bed and find some way to use the space under the mattress.
@@Engineer9736 Because $800 is the average cost of a brand new Queen sized bed frame. Why spend that type of money and time when you could buy it, is what most people are probably thinking. My guy said he spent two weeks building this. Where was his teenager sleeping in the mean time. Plus those ikea cabinets are made from pressed wood, that ish is going to snap in half the first night that she sleeps on it.
Sorry for offending anyone I just wanted to say that I reeeally liked this kind of build, but don't worry I'm not going to do this again.. 😂😂😂 .. or no, I will when I really like something 😋 because everyone deserves good words for cool things, instead of only critizism and hate 😝😝 sorry for being a nice human 🤗
Shelley Mittelbach wow thanks for a usefull coment, soon it will come a new video where my stepdad buildes another bed! He used a lot of critics to improve some stuff!
Are you a giant? That's a queen size bed. Most teens and adults can sleep easily on it. Just looks small because of how it's built into the surrounding platform.
You could put a cheap, small, and quality couch between the empty space, so her friends can relax as well. You guys are awesome. My mom or dad would never do that stuff for me because since I’m the youngest and only daughter and live with my grandma, we have to share a room. TT Her room is so cute! Nice job you guys.
Saw a similar video for this idea, except the dad took out a back panel for one of the larger front cabinets making a huge crawl space underneath and the cabinet was a door to that. I agree with other people saying that this was inefficient in that he used a good portion of the pieces for just support.
I love this. I dont know why everyones complaining. Its called diy yourself for a reason if u dont like his method then make it your way and utilize the cabinets. But dont knock the outcome cuz it is an awesome bed.
I have to buy $800 dollars worth of cabinets to not even be able to use half of them? If that were me, I would just put concrete in my bedroom instead, or find some kind of way to make a tunnel in the cabinets for my own hiding space.
Looks cool but theres a few issues. Changing the sheets must be a pain and if Emma rolls over in her sleep and whacks her elbow on the window frame ur gonna have a pretty upset teenager.
So many issues here. 1 I’m pretty sure this isn’t even your video and you narrated someone elses. . 2. This is such a dumb configuration. That bed is going to collapse being held up by only 1 cabinet. 3. how do you change the fitted sheet with a sunken mattress? Disassemble it every time you need to change a sheet?
To change the sheets you would lift the mattress, this isn't dumb as there's 2x4s holding it too and bed slats are decently strong and can probably hold a 14Yo. I do think this isn't his video tho.
Jayden Henry I’d suggest a platform made of 2x4’s and some plywood sheets. If built right it’ll support the bed and the sheet will keep items from falling underneath the platform. I’d also suggest putting some holes in it to allow for ventilation for keep mold and other things from forming and ruining the floor.
He's done it so that it's "simple" for people to follow, and don't have to start building frames. But yeah I agree, what a waste of furniture, and unnecessary additional cost. Everything behind the front storage cupboards should have been built up in 2x4. The slats for the bed, you can buy pre-made, you just role them out and screw them down to the frame. More spring under the mattress than 2x4 and relatively cheap.
Oh so easy. Just like you would change the sheets on a normal bed. Just lift the mattress at the corners pulling of the sheets corner by corner. Then place clean sheets spread out on the bed. And lastly lifting the corners one by one again and putting the sheets over the corners. Isn't that how you change the sheets at every bed?
Atm, my heaven involves endless wardrobes, getting to eat whatever with no health consequences and like infinite power over the worlddddd.... BUT eh. This works too, I guess
I'd say it was a very unsuccessful in the cost area because of how many were covered but if you put hinges so the platform could be lifted to have extra cabinet access you'd have me on the extra cabinets but other wise just plain would would have probably worked but I mean do what you want with your money
...Okay at first I thought this would be amazing...but no. There is so much wasted space underneath that thing...and definitely would cost way too much to create in the first place. Not to mention horrible placement of shelves....right above the sleeping area. Maybe I'm the one with the problem though...
You can also find re-sellers online of Ikea cabinets from people moving or no longer needing it in order to save you some money. That way you can also plan out how you really want yours to look. Just one idea 💡
I dig this, bc your clothes can be put into those draws if there's enough, and i actually sleep on the floor bc i dont like to sleep in bed. I have smh thats thinner than mattress, usually its put over the mattress for it to be more comfy. I just put that on the floor and sleep. Its like sleeping on three blankets. Its not completely sleeping on floor and its not too soft so i dont fall into it like u do into mattress, your spine is straight.
