Thank you so very much for sharing these extraordinary impressions. I'm just beginning to discover the beauty and depth of Ikebana. As a trained florist, art student and passionate lover of all plants I feel strongly drawn to this highly sophisticated art form and am grateful for every motion picture that's teaching me how to create something that aesthetic myself. Besides the delight of looking at these awe-inspiring arrangements it was very pleasing listening to your gently spoken words of admiration. Again, thank you sharing 🙏🏻

Like all art forms it’s subjective, I’m a florist in uk for last 30 years, ikebana takes it back to appreciating natural individual beauty of single blooms, where the eye can focus without distraction. Something that as consumers we have long overlooked, this video is a nice reminder that simplicity is just as rewarding as excess blooms that have lost their unique individual value.

Thanks for filming and posting this. I also appreciate your quiet voice that reminds me of the silence in an ikebana class. As for future ikebana videos I recommend you shoot each arrangement from the very front, too, with the camera a bit above water level. (Like the shoot of the hanging rikka shimpūtai.) That's the view intended by the creator. One should see the mizugiwa (the room between the water and the branching) and all plants that are standing behind each other should seem to grow from one stem. But even if not all arrangements aren't shown from the right angle one can see the outstanding artisanship of our teachers and the headmaster's genius. Thanks again and greetings from the Ikenobō Study Group Austria.

Hi Dave I Just discovered this episode, I am getting into Ikebana, nothing like but some overtones to Bonsai. Wonderful coverage.

Sorry for the delay, Jonathan. That’s very true. I never considered the connection between the two. I hope to have some bonsai events next month. If not, November is a big month so I’m looking forward to that.

I will look out on the bonsai groups for some photos from there. I’ve seen a few from the US recently. I didn’t end up buying one. I wish I had the time and was home more so I could appreciate what it takes to care for one.

The masters use tiny flowers for accents.

E/thing doesn't appear to be BEHIND glass, where they'd be protected. Also, the idebana videos here on YT, many (most?) make use of portions of twigs/branches/etc that are pinched from side/side to hold many of the flowers straight up. I could see the use of the "frogs" in some cases, but none of the other.
@DaveinOsaka

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen them behind glass unless it’s a window display

arrangements from Ikenobo practitioners can not be bought. they are created in the place where they are going to be exhibited and cannot be moved. you can invite the artist to make an arrangement in the place you want the arrangement to be

@@DaveinOsaka And many Japanese people also don't understand it. Including me. But I enjoy watching it and looking beautiful. The essence of the flower arrangement is deep. It seems hard to master the road.

Of course a foreigner will understand ikebana if she/he it studying wholeheartedly with an excellent master. Like Japanese can be good classical musicians although they aren't Europeans.
