you guys should work whistle register into one of your arrangements. like kirstie and mitch harmonize way up there in the whistle register while avi kevin and scott all harmonize while overtone singing. that would be the weirdest sounding song ever but it would be absurdly badass
As much as we all would love to hear these amazing whistles in a song of theirs. They probably will never. Because if they have whistles on their cd. Fans expect it live and live concerts plus touring doing whistles THAT MUCH would kill their voices. And its a big fear of not hitting the note Im sure thats Ariana Grande's reasong as well.
My whistles happen naturally, like I can't force them. I mean, I can do them, but I have to work up to that register. And Scott is literally dying in the background and it's adorable.
This is why I will NEVER STOP loving Pentatonix. Everyone in the group has their own superpower: Scott has the soul voice and riffs, Mitch has sky-high vocals and riffs also, Kirstie has SUPER HIGH vocals and riffs too, Avi has a register that blows speakers, and Kevin has FREAKING SICK BEATS. And I always listen to them when I'm having a great day or awful day. They just cheer me up and make me proud. And to not give up on your dreams. And to showcase your own unique talents. :)

I keep coming back to this video. It kind of irks me when every video of Pentatonix I see, there is someone saying "Mitch can sing higher than Kirstie." I'm just like, go watch this video. Mitch is a PHENOMENAL singer but when it comes to whistle notes, Kirstie beats him into the ground. Mitch doesn't even do whistle notes--he just inhales and makes a squeaking sound (which he's said during a livestream).
ironmansidekick The only reason that Mitch can "belt" higher is because he often uses his mixed voice to reach those higher notes. I've never really heard Kirstie do a mixed vocal before so she often goes straight from her chest voice to falsetto.
I love how even though they have sung so much together they still manage to surprise each other. Also am I the only one who heard Avi say something that sounded like "that was pretty steep" (probably not what he actually said) after Kirstie said "that was bad?

sometimes mitch just makes some squeaking noises,but i think in this video he really hit the whistle notes.Even in the karaoke game...mitch's voice gets higher every month and this is scary
If you're going to do this, please do get a trained professional to help you, and even so you might hurt yourself or damage your voice. It's kind of hard to do whistles, I can do them, sometimes, but I'm a soprano, so naturally I can sing really fucking high. You should always warm up a lot, drink loads of water, and most importantly, ask someone who knows what they're doing in terms of vocal training, because they'll be able to tell you how to do it without fucking up your voice. JO ZL Thanks for the advice, man. :) I'm a soprano, too. And I actually sing in a choir currently, but I have never really tried to do whistles notes. Well, I have tried but they didn't really come out right. I can ask people in the choir I'm in though, I suppose. :) Thanks for your help! :)
Amberlicious1000 Actually, female, bro :) It's cool that you sing in a choir, I don't because there isn't any choir that I can join :( Don't be discouraged if the whistles don't come out at first, really, the only reason mine are relatively good now are because I literally have most of the 6th octave and the pre-whistle 7th, so it's just like a natural transition, like going from chest to head voice, y'know? If you really want to get better though, I highly recommend listening to Ariana Grande and Mariah Carrey. You can hate their music all you want (I'm not too crazy about their music, to be honest), but you have to admit that the ladies know their whistles.
Ahhhh ok, well I just said "man" because I call anyone that, regardless of gender. Just whenever the mood strikes me to use that word, I use it. :) But ok. That's really cool about the whistle notes thing and is pretty impressive that you can do it! I'm totally not a fan of Ariana Grande or Mariah Carey, but they can do the whistle notes, that is true. Actually this doesn't damage your vocal cords if you're doing it correctly. Kirstie's whistles sound very healthy (not a ton of airiness but still light).
Kristie is the only girl who could be better and gifted 🏆🎤🎼🎵🎶 I am so proud of you guys to have Kristie be the greatest girl 👍🙏 and I hope I'll be like her in the future
Plenty of singers have been whistle singing long before they were born. People like Minnie Ripperton or Mariah Carey can do it way better. I'm positive that Mitch wasn't actually using the whistle register and Kirstie didn't until close to the end.
Okay, when I said no one I meant most people. It's called exaggeration. And yes, Mitch was doing it, too. When Kirstie first started, she wasn't doing it immediately because she had to get used to it, but then she was doing it. So get off your high horse and quit criticizing. They were just messing around and I was just complimenting them.
Amanda Knowles Mitch wasn't using whistle tones. He's said as much--he said that he just inhales and squeaks. You're right about Kirstie getting used to it and then doing it. I'm not on a high horse either. It just doesn't make sense to say that they can do what no one else can, when other's actually can do it (and can do it better).
0:23 the way that she came off of that note sounded JUST like Mariah Carey. That's impressive. She really should work on her whistle register and start using it!

Scott has extremely clean runs & licks, Kevin has his incredible beatboxing, Kirstie has a brilliant whistle register, Avi has fantastic overtone singing & sound effects, and Mitch with his female range that can match Kirstie's.
