It really happened in the Atlantic as well as in the Pacific, the dogfights between giants. The B-24 so often underrated before the more glamorous B-17 was in fact more effective during these encounters against the Axis giants. In the Pacific, there was one recorded incident of a B-24 pursuit & shooting down of an IJN flying boat.

There were several incidents were a b-24 shot down a Japanese mavis flying boat. They also shot down several G4’s Bettys.

For me this video ranks up there with the duel between the Sunderland and the Condor, and the Liberators vs. a Japanese convoy. Great stuff.

A battle very much like this, actually took place. The B-24 I think shot down one, heavily damaged the other, but was kinda tore up itself, and made an emergency landing in a field, on the English side of course.

Short Sunderland, in a dog fight with Condors above a Atlantic Convey we’re so common, that the Condor crews called the Sunderland seaplanes, flying porcupine’s!

That was one resilient Liberator. Still better than in the Other Game, where they fall apart if hit by a shell from a Bf 109, I suppose.

The Condor had a couple of 20MM Cannons; pretty scary, I'd back the Condor if it was had a good crew! Mind you the good old .5 is great!

This reminds me of a story, this actually happened in World War 2. There was an upgraded flying fortress with extra machine guns and ammo operating from North Africa. With it's soul purpose to take down fighters. Lure them out and amaze them with a furious amount of firepower. Edit: It was flying in the pacific, not North Africa. See comments below.

In other words you're talking about the YB-40 Flying Fortress, it was a B-17 that was modified into a gunship of sorts to protect it's fellow bombers from enemy aircraft. Around 25 were built or modified from other B-17s.

@@clawyraptor9029 Nvm, I meant the Old 666 story of Yarnhub. That's where it orriginally started I think. This was in the Pacific not North Africa. My bad.

@@clawyraptor9029 : And the YB-40 was useless. It was 4,000 pounds heavier than a bombed-up regular B-17F, took almost twice as long to climb to 20,000 feet, and couldn't keep up with the regular B-17s after they had dropped their bombs.

A B-17 with even more guns would be great for a multicrew video, though. Maybe some strafing run on an airfield or so :D

@@Fishyyy : It would be great if you could replicate the mission of ‘Old 666’. Even if you had to dial down the AI skill level a bit to give you team half a chance to fight off 17 Zeros.
