i would also suggest to attack from a steeper angle, the top of the tanks seems to be armored less, i have a hard time believing that you will make any impression on the KV1 frontal armor with a 37mm cannon

These guns could open T-34 pretty easily, however KV-1s were tough target like you say.

MrLuftwafflez they often used tungsten apcr shells when on tank destroying missions in planes armed with the 37mm. They could get through a t34 nicely and could penetrate a kv1 as well although it was definitely a tougher target.

That's just how the plane was built man. It was built like that so it was cheaper to maintain as then parts would be identical between them.

Yeah I prefer bombs for small ground targets like tanks and other vehicles. lol

John Connor if it was firing the the tungsten ammo (which was used especially for tank busting) then they could.

Jack Fuller Germans used tungsten ammo for their 50 mm AT guns against T-34's side armor or at close range against T-34 frontal armor. but it was utterly useless against KV-1's.And I don't think 37 mm ammo was more powerful than 50 mm one.

Shots usually hit the deck armor of turret and chassis which is not more than 16mm for a T 34 and its variants. The Allies use .50 (12,85 mm) in their P-47 Thunderbirds enough to penetrate deck armor of Panthers, Tigers and King Tigers with a thickness off up to 25mm. Rudel, the guy who was most decorated in the german army had well over 500 enemy tanks knocked out in his Stuka. He piloted the Ju-87G "Kanonenvogel" with two 37mm Gondolas. You may not thing so, John, bit it's true non the less. ;)

the bk37 utilized a subclaibre tungsten projectile that could pen around 80mm to 90mm of armour at 100m

Makzim Danilov The devs cannot make accurate damage models for every single vehicles. Too much time and ressources needed. Il-2 is a flight semi-sim. The gameplay experience is based on flying aircraft with realistic physics and immersive (but not totally realistic) engine/systems management. A 37mm can penetrate a KV-1 armor. But only at certain angle and at certain spots. Having this feature modeled for every single unplayable vehicule is just a useless waste of ressources for this sim. No point at all. So the ground vehicle damage model is based on a ''health point'' system rather than precise simulation of damage. And it's fine.
