I love the damage model in this game. Sometimes it's worth it to make a risky maneuver or just fire for the sake of it because all it takes is one bullet to hit right in the magic spot to either catch the plane on fire or kill the pilot. Love it.

The view was good though and there is vodka to fortify. The Russians couldn't produce the quality clear acrylic the allies did, I think this was a problem for them for the entire war. Their best fighters never had nice clear canopies, they turned yellow very fast and scratched easily. Armoured glass in the front is nice, but you want a light-weight acrylic canopy you can open when things go pear-shaped. The fully armoured-glass Il-2 canopy was too heavy to open if the plane was pitched too far forward, ie diving towards the ground...

The hard pressed Russian air force did not have time to change to winter paint schemes in all their aircraft in the first year of the fighting. The final marks of I-16 seem to have reflector gunsights and wing cannon .I would rather be in a Brewster Buffalo with an enclosed all around cockpit, an electric heater and compartment for a whiskey flask.
@@livinglifeform7974 Said Finnish ace Juutalainen before he was issued a Me-109 during the continuation war 1941-44. He scored many of his kills in a Finnish overhauled Brewster- which of course was not the lumbering duck encountered in the Pacific.
And 16 type 24 was armed with machine guns of 7.62 caliber, which was very difficult to shoot Me 109, and especially Heinkel 111 .. PS: But video is good..
Type 24 also had 2x 20mm ShVAK cannon in wings with 180 rounds each, in addition to 7.62 mg with 1000 rounds each in the nose. Other models did not have these cannon, but the 24 did.
In the beginning of this video, the German planes were Me-109's, The I-16 was completely outclassed and outgunned. This outcome would not have come off as it did.
The Me-109 pilots in this game tried to dogfight the Rata's. You can't do that. A Rata is more maneuverable during a tight turning fight. The Me's should have either took the fight vertical or did slashing attacks using their greater speed and climb.
hmmm, even the 1946 bots knew to fly all energy fight with 109 against i-16 :-D i love i-16 but it's a troll plane really. any useful only if there's mig's forcing the early 109's to turn fight.
it took a long time to get the AI to that level. I don't know if you remember but in the early days of the original IL2 all the AI did was turn fight and 109s always got slaughtered.
Дааааа! Впечатлило! Если б у нас в начале войны было хотя бы пять десятков ТАКИХ лётчиков, а у немцев все были -такие же , как ТУТ, то война в воздухе закончилась бы через пару недель, максимум -месяц, -полным и безоговорочным поражением супостатов.

Всем кто "пиз..дит" что И -16 был плохим самолетом к 1941 году..У меня военрук в 1980е был на одной ноге, летчик истребитель, сбили его на И-16 в 1943 в небе над Ленинградом, до этого с 1941 он сбил "Юнкерс" и "мессер" - учавствовал в штурмовке финских позиций..Самое страшное, как он говорил, на маневре самолета - темнело в глазах от голода( все пилоты в нарушение приказа делились пайками с голодающими)..Сбили его в 1943.- потерял ногу. Как думаете пацан сбивший два самолета на "Ишаке" окупил И-16?
