If you look carefully at 16:27 it says that the parked Ju 88 was destroyed by the Ford truck, so I can only presume that their explosion (or something along those lines) got em, which is why you weren't credited with the parked aircraft.

Yes, that's a bit much not to be credited with the Ju 88!...

The secret to successful attacks on heavily defended targets is "One and Done"--make one good pass and egress. Going around for a second pass simply give a now-alert enemy a second chance to nail you. As one Mosquito squadron commander put it, "He who fights and runs away, lives!"

Stuart is quite correct, Taff. Still, I understand. You're a born fighter pilot - when your fangs come out, you can't resist having another go.

My actual gameplay is much more boring than if I'm showing off the features of a game. I don't know how many times I've heard Bismarck say, "I wouldn't normally do this, BUT..."

Taff, the idea of Mosquito raids is to get in fast, hit the target hard and get out fast. Do not drop your ordinance piecemeal like this; pick your target and drop the lot in one pass and get out. Don't go around for seconds and thirds. Another mistake you made is to present the enemy with a nice silhouette of your aircraft (setting sun behind you); go in from the dark side. Those searchlight crews could see you before you'd even begun your bomb run. Apart from this, some good shooting and that Ju88 bought it by proxy; you hit a truck next to it and the flying flying debris from the explosion destroyed the aircraft. So maybe chalk it down as a "part kill".

One pass and haul ass. Definitely the conventional wisdom. In such difficult conditions I would be tempted to take more and lighter bombs. Maybe 500s on the wing and 250s in the bomb bay, if there are choices. I think you were robbed a couple of times in these missions. Thought I saw a AAA kill, and one bomb seemed close enough to put a world of hurt on a searchlight.
@thomashiggins9320
@thomashiggins9320 Год назад
Yeah, that one bomb that hit the truck triggered a chain explosion that also killed the aircraft. You should've gotten credit for that, too.

Beautiful aircraft. I was lucky to have one based less than 5 minutes away. It used to fly low over our house every weekend. Sadly it crashed killing the pilot a few years back.

You were robbed, Taff. I'm sure I saw 3 Ju-88s hit and burning. Your 20mm cannon fire knocked out the AAA. Sebastian was his usual exuberant self.

Excellent episode taff, another operation at evening.. sunset also.. the twilight of the Gods.. as they say. Great management skills done there, that's just so similar and true to actual Dehavilland Mosquito operations, the Mossies we're often fitted with 4x bombs when they went on combat operations, not always the same loadout depending on what the job was at the time.. but 4x bombs is just so similar to what actually was fitted oh the Mossies. Another successful flight clocked in, hitting that Luftwaffe airbase is going to give the enemy a good amount of grief and headaches.. not much devastation inflicted given hardly anyone but you have been going to hit that airfield.. but.. any damage inflicted is a cost to enemy resources. Great work against those searchlights, any RAF night raids will be able to breathe a tad bit easier with not as many search lights searching for the aircraft. Personally speaking.. and I will say.. "Personally".. these evening raids are perhaps the safest and forgiving you can go on.. the Luftwaffe doesn't seem to have any night fighters around so if that is the case, all you have is AAA and searchlights to deal with. Don't misunderstand.. I love the day flights a lot also, no doubt about it, just voicing an opinion. Eddie James comes home safe, and that's another great contribution performed.. those JU-88s you bombed and clearly destroyed might have been mothballed or even fake decoy aircraft.. probably not the case but it's nice to be creative. Great episode, looking forward to the next episode, let's hope Eddie James keeps getting back safe from each flight. Excellent episode mate 👏 👍

Top priority for the German night fighters is protecting Germany from British heavy bombers. Protecting coastal airfields in France is probably their bottom priority.
@joeaustin4472
@joeaustin4472 Год назад
@@timonsolus That's something I still hope for, I know the BF110s are to the north attempting to defend Berlin so that's the primary night fighters out of the way, but I do know the Luftwaffe operates or.. if my history is correct.. is experimenting smaller BF109 and FW190 night fighters.. small in numbers and hardly known of but so far so good they too are out of the picture. I just hope that stays the same here over Normandy, makes you hold your breath when you go over the coast in this campaign.. just hope the night fighters remain absent in the campaign 👍

Don’t know what your options are. I would be tempted to loiter a bit and let my AI squadron mates go in first and let them distract the AA. On the other hand, a one pass run while they are still getting there act together is also a choice.

Any tips for not ground looping the Mossie when landing? I've got the take off nailed but not the landing...
@StuartKoehl
@StuartKoehl Год назад
Mosquito pilots themselves were divided on this. Some had no problem making a standard, power-off, 3-point touchdown, while others preferred to do a power-on "wheelie" landing on the main mounts, holding the tail up as long as possible, to get better control. The pneumatic brakes of the Mosquito had a tendency to fade, and it would sometimes be hard to check an incipient ground loop.
