Maestro Ilaiyaraja is a genius ... he can write whole composition with notes within minutes

Shreya goshal just switches octaves. Its just higher C, D, and E. So they are still only using 3 notes

The reason why the concerts sound "informal" is since Raja tries to explain scenarios behind the music creation and anything special or specific behind a composition. For example if he did not explain that this song was only composed on 3 notes - 95% of the audience would not have understood or appreciated that - and for sure this would not have come for your reaction!!!

The entire song was in 3-notes in different octaves though. This is not 3-notes in a single octave. Also this is the pace at which Raja composes. Typically he composes a tune in 15 min, writes sheet music for all the musicians in about an hour and in 4-5 hours you have a complete recorded song (production version) after training singers, orchestra and rehearsals. That is how the man composed for 1,000 films including the background score. Out of this man music just flows - literally like opening a tap.

For Kamal Hassan's Hey Ram movie, initially some other music director composed and the song sequences were shot. But Kamal was not satisfied, so he went back to Raja sir and asked him for a new set of songs and planned to reshoot the songs again. But Raja sir instead asked him to show the song sequences and by seeing them, he noticed the lip movements and composed the whole songs backwards! Based on their lip movements and dance steps! All the songs were huge hits! This was seen as a real miracle by everyone at that time. You cannot notice that in the movie now.

Yes this is based on three notes but basically in carnatic, using the raga with that three notes specified, they travel from one note to another note with transition happening over other unspecified notes (sliding over other notes) instead jumping exactly like a staccato (jumping abruptly to other note) RAJA also shifted to the next octave and enroute while sliding the pitch, all the notes inbetween will have to be touched while sliding for smooth transition (like playing in a violin). There is another video where he does a staccato jumping with three notes composition on stage.❤️

07:12 answer is; they didn't change.. you can try on any instrument and see. It's all 3 notes.. Whole song from beginning to ending whatever you heard is all 3 notes.. Because of singing in high pitch you would have misunderstood second stanza was not 3 notes.. but whole thing was three notes..

funfact: sri sp balasubramaniyam sang 40,000+ songs in indian music various languages if you play them one after one they will play for 3 and 1/2 years these gen z kids say classical music are booring and drop some beats in there there are some like us also in gen z who like classical music and today also i listen songs from 1950-1990 where good music was produced with ethics
