Damn, that second girl looks lifted right out of a real old black and white film! They're all good but she and the guy in the brown waistcoat are a joy to watch.
Correction : dancer #1 came in 5th, #2 came in 3rd, #3 came in 7th, #4 came in 6th, #5 came in 1st, #6 came in 2nd, #7 came in 8th and #8 came in 4th. Best ILHC solo Charleston year, 2009 year close second.
I can see how Michael Jackson got much of his influence from the Charlston. He doesn't do exactly the same thing, but there are elements from it in his dancing. He, for example, puts his weight on the front of his feet and lifts his heels off the ground to do much of what he does.
So Cool. This kind of dancing should be introduce into the schools: elementary, middle, high school. So cool, so fun, so healthy, and so social! Wish I had thought about it for my kids when they were little. All I can do is forward this to them in hoping they will give it a go and learn, starting with the basics.
I mean, woow.. So organised, so classy and so good at their craft. And the ending. All time long it didn't even feel like a competition to me, but just a friendly disco in the 20s. Wonderful
That dancing looks like more fun than just about any party I've ever been to. I wish I could go back to the 1920s and see how they roared! (The guy in the yellow cap is my fave BTW)
OMG, just came across this and loveing it all. The guy in the tan shirt and white cuffs is the cat's meow....really awesome! Thanks for posting, such fun!!!
you may enjoy youtubing "baptisia" - it's people at spiritual/revival/i-feel-the-lord type events being synced up to drum and bass music so they look like they're at a rave. it's pretty wild.
Love this video, came here after going on a post Gatsby Jazz age rabbit trail. Charleston and Black Bottom are still the best dances ever created. bar none.
Uplifting and divine. Does anybody know the order they placed in ? Hate to be a judge on this one. From the ILCH final standings I have dancer #1 in 8th, #2 in 3rd, #3 in 6th, #4 in 7th, #5 in 1st, #6 in 2nd, #7 in 5th and #8 in 4th. Can anybody confirm or correct this list.
