Ilia is like the bad guy from a rocky movie, I seen a clip of him I think it was on the countdown, he was driving like an Aston Martin and he has the beautiful wife, the big beautiful vila and just looks like a Italian mob boss. It was interesting, they did such a good job like painting the picture. I’m excited for a potential rematch.

A lot of grapplers switch to striking either cus they know they will become more popular since casual audiences prefer striking over grappling, or a wrestler has a lot of power and can therefore become an effective power puncher. Costa, Romero, Chandler and Gaethje are good examples of this

I love Volk and I love Ilia. It sucked to see Volk get KO'd but nobody can take this victory from Ilia. This was his win, he did what he said he would and now he's champ. A rematch will be insane, especially if they do it in Spain - can't wait to see that!

Illa only needs to land once and he has lights out power. Volk is a legend and best 145er of all time but Illa has his number. Volk could be winning 3 rounds but one punch power of illa will be the deciding factor! Illa is a Georgian 🇬🇪 and they are built deferent from around that region. His wrestling plus boxing make him a very exciting champion. I’m not jumping on the bandwagon btw - all week I had Illa winning. I don’t gamble so no money made.
he says new contenders as if hes fought any of those guys though. max is not an easy fight regardless of age. max doesnt get finished, maybe ilia can but to say max, ortega etc arent new contenders doesnt really make sense with a new champion. clean the division means all contenders.

You took the words out of my mouth. On top of that I would add that Volk's gameplan in round 1 seemed to work well, then his ego decided to prove "he's better everywhere" and got KO'd against the cage 5 seconds later.
Hes actually pretty level headed and makes sense. He wants to fight and is willing to fight whoever they put in front of him. Thats what we want in a champion

Volk cleared out most of the division before Ilia beat him, those guys have to earn their way back. Same thing happened to LW with Khabib and Charles which is how those Volk/Islam fights happened

To imagine that Volk was talking UFC 300. He shouldn't take the rematch but go all in to rest and heal up from Islam KO and now this from Ilia. I Actually think he was still wearing the effects of the Islam KO and didn't heal up well enough. In fact, Ilia mentioned that it'll surely play a part and he doesn't see Volk the same anymore since the Islam KO. All the same, well done to both men and all the best to the new Champ.
I’m a Volk fan but picked this result on the back of the 35yo curse and the previous ko. Can’t see Volk beating Ilia in a rematch. Would love to see the rematch though.
