You can also ult+flash in them fights and with ice orb gauntlet you can keep the them there and also you would also want to not always destroy the spirit pre 6 and if they stronger pre 6 because they can defend it so hold wave to your turrent but get those e’s in and you can destroy it with turrent help and also denying cs and potentially xp. Personally I go the same runes except I go bone plating sometimes and I go tear first item because of the mana problem and you still get the healing from the passive tentacle hits from spirit. Also bramble best doesn’t counter illaoi because if the top laner like ornn gets it then just destroy the spirit and you won’t get wounded. And throw in some attacks like q’s because with tear you won’t have the mana issue level 6 that frequent. Also I get black cleaver first depending upon matchup because I like to know what my opponent is getting and their team like if the jungler gets heart steel and my top laner get Trinity(Darius gets this sometimes) then I will get sunderer and if no heartsteel is in the game then get iceborn gauntlet. With this you can easily carry top lane. Also you counter mord like if he ults you then just use quicksilver sash you can get back into your ult in the normal realm and spam W and he should die because at this point you got iceborn and cleaver and your merc treads because you should only all in a mord if he is below half HP. I heard of first strike illaoi and tried it but I was t that much of a fan of it.

the distance of the tentacle is always the same you should put your cursor over where the enemy might run to that way it still hits them

@@TiltShades The most important thing about this is that tentacles automatically attack the spirit, so if you ult the spirit in a teamfight, all tentacles will attack right when they spawn, instead of depending on you to hit the first w, that's pretty nasty trick that heals, damages and saves you tons of times

my teleport summoner spell is key binded to my D key, and i just hovered my cursor over the structure i wanted to teleport to, and press D (i have my spells all set to quick cast as well)

this was just an enemy bot to showcase general laning plan, but yes if your opponent can dodge your E and destroy your tentacles it will be harder to stomp lane.

try to play closer to your tower and call for ganks is one option, or try to play near a tentacle, clear out minions with a Q or W, then land a E on the ranged champ and go ham on their spirit. Usually ranged champs don't have great wave clear in top lane, s if you can start to hard shove waves on them and force them to focus on last hitting only and not on harassing you, you can win the matchup that way.

yeah can be weird to get the hang of, just try to make sure your r i casting and hitting the champion, you literally have to slam the ground with them right under you to get it to work.
