Even where horse racing is regulated, those horses still suffer injuries from being started to early, are pumped full of drugs, etc. The problems in the regulated horse world don't disappear simply because this happens to be unregulated...

It's illegal since there is no tax revenue coming from it Racing commissions could care less about the horses as much as people shown on the video They see money that there not getting point blank
Its really looking to me like it shouldn't be. I work in dog sled racing and have seen a ton of messed up stuff. Ive been looking into abuse in other animal sports, animal racing all around seems pretty plagued by cruel practices and high "wastage" rates. lots of culling and slaughter. Even most equine people seem to really be against it. But theres alot of money and interest in it. rich white people with lawyers. Its just seems hard to take down i guess. With dog sled racing its sorta different. Less is know about it, and people think its neat. But really its no different from dog fighting or grey hound racing. The way the dogs are cared for and trained is actually pretty similar to dog fighting. over breeding, chains, barrels, slat mills. Same as a sled dog kennel. They literally look and operate almost the same. Mushing is cool, but dog racing is a separate thing. Regulated racing was set up to ensure some level of safety for the jockeys, horses, and attendees. Who cares if this racing isn't taxed, (the government would be in no better shape even with whatever minuscule amount of money they could get from this) the main problem is that violence and other illegal activities, completely separate from racing, come about as result of it. It would be a completely different story if these people were just innocently, correctly, and safely racing their horses for shits and giggles.
Some violence and illegal activities happen everywhere, for anything. There's always bad people. Videos like this make it sound like *most* humans there are murderers. Kinda racist, really.
Unfortunately, it's easy for these horses to be doped as there's no testing going on afterwards. At least with regulated racing, there's SOME measure of control.
In Ireland that's what we call flapping or point 2point(hurdles) .racing under rules is a rich mans hobby,so what do u expect if the poorer man loves the sport but can't afford,what they need to do is set up a committee with there own rules,where vets etc attend meetings.some greats have came from flapping from the likes of a.p McCoy, kerion fallon..does look a bit dodgy though,that what u should set up some rules for them and allow it as it will still go on behind closed doors.
I agree about the violence and drugs. I don't agree about anything else. Mexicans have been doing this for centuries. Many cultures have been racing horses "unregulated" for decades. Just like in anything you will have your good people and you will have your bad. It doesn't make every Mexican a bad person. Most Mexicans will tell you how much they love their horse and how much they take care of them. Horses are a big part of the Mexican culture. I have 13. Sometimes they get treated better than my kids. Point is that there should be something in place to definitely rid the drugs and stop the violence (good luck that). Although the violence isn't as bad as they make it seem. Sure in some cases it's gotten out of hand but most times they're just like a bar brawl. They fight and leave it at that after. Mexicans aren't stupid. We just have a different way of doing things. If you don't like it. Don't take part in it. If we really felt this was dangerous then we wouldn't take kids. The fights that happen are usually between those that are already in with the wrong crowd... oh by the way the reporter said a 9 yr old was racing. He probably, like most, grew up around horses his and his been trained his whole life so he will have more than enough experience.

I've heard of Thoroughbreds being swiped and run in situations like this. Is there any truth to that? That staypuff marshmallowman looks absolutely crooked to me. I know Thoroughbreds have tattoos, I just wonder about what I had heard.
