iLoud Micro Monitors amzn.to/39QJWZK iLoud MTM Monitors amzn.to/38LWqBK Avantone MixCubes amzn.to/2T28LLr 1 Year later, I tell you what I don't like about these monitors.... and what I do!
I bought a pair of these in June of 2021 and have enjoyed them immensely every day since then. Absolutely no regrets. Beautiful imaging. Smooth highs. Accurate mids. Proportionate low end (don't expect bone-rattling bass). I moved recently into a smaller apartment, and I had a smaller desk with no surface area for speakers. Thankfully the threaded mounting holes allowed to mount the MTMs on (slightly modified) VESA monitor stands. Now the speakers are up over my head behind my monitor pointing down. Looks awesome. Still sounds great. If they're in your budget and they meet your needs on paper then I recommend you give them a listen.
Hey my man, that star ring on your stand is made to tighten up to the base of the speaker so it doesn't flop around.. come on now why do U think that ring is there.... good luck I just fixed it for you.
Yes, magic is in the mid range, as some famous engineer said. Thanks so much.Have the bx8 d3, and bought the micro thanks to you, and when I a/b on the monitor station one can hear the mid range difference, much more clear in the micros, and mixes translate better just using the ilouds, but I still check the low end on the sub which I bought. And it's true, the magic is in the mid range and the ilouds prove that.
Very true about the 8" monitors lacking midrange detail. The M-Audio BX5s are a much better choice for budget small studios but I still love my Tapco S8s, they make the entire building shake!
The calibration is mandatory, you are exactly correct. Out of the box the bass wasn’t stellar. Once I did the calibration, the difference was huge. Ow it’s like I have a sub under the desk. I had the Micros, these are better in the mids.
Nice review. I’m considering and confused between the Genlec 8010 and the Iloud mtm for my mobile setup travel companionship. Which one would you highly considered?
I’m in the same dilemma as you! I was hard set on genelecs but these seem like a better bang for my buck and probably better honestly. These might sound better in different environments whereas the genelecs will sound best in treated rooms. Not as flexible
Thanks for the review very informative Im going to get me a pair. The 2 small problems you have are because of your mic stand mount. Great idea but with the tall, thin & lightweight stand the speakers are really top heavy.
I use a set of Fostex 841 after placing the 641's in the living room....I can not live without my 3-way monitors anymore, most 2-ways do sounds like they have a hole where the mids should sit. The MTM's are on my list for the laptop system for sure!
Do you think one of these is enough for monitoring? Or should I go instead for the iloud Micro? (not planing to buy 2 of these). Thanks for doing this video btw.
Just go for the iloud micro... I have the micro and they sound great , it would be so much better than just one iloud mtm witch btw, i also have, you can trust on the micros and achieve great results
Thanx Lewin!!! Love your reviews! I bought a pair of the IK Multimedia micro monitors awhile back based off of your review of them and I love them, since my studio where I record is completely untreated and serves double duty as my bedroom 😑. They have improved my mixing skills immensely... thanx again for all your contributions in the GarageBand/home studio area. Love your Music Monday songs too!
Is the -11db function usable ? I am planning on getting the iloud mtm but at night i was thinking of utilizing the -11db function not to bother my neighbors. I generally looking for an active speaker that basically muting bass option which this is closest thing to that ive seen so far . If it is usable how bad or good are they while in that mode ?
It's definitely useable and does work as advertised. Of course the room acoustics of the space you put them in is going to play a big role, but I think ya have a very good idea there. Here's an affiliate link to them if you feel like helping out the channel with zero extra cost to you amzn.to/38LWqBK
I am looking for a pair of speakers to use with my Korg CX-3 organ. Most of these reviews discuss them as being "monitors". I am assuming they would be excellent for my Korg but would like your opinion. Currently I use Denon DN-506's with my Jupiter 80 and love the sound, but need a 2nd set for the Korg. Appreciate any feedback from anyone on this channel.
They would be great for the purpose! They can be used for multiple purposes and sound great in all of them! FYI If you buy them from this link it's an easy way to support the channel with no extra cost to you! iLoud MTM Monitors amzn.to/38LWqBK
2:16 Oh my! I was just considering purchasing either iLoud MTMs or M-Audio BX8s. It looks like I may have come to the right place for an advice. Would you still recommend iLoud over BX8 taking into consideration that they are more expensive? Some sources say BX8s are not very good quality speakers. Are they really not that good compared to iLouds? I am still tempted by the lower price. Btw, I have BX5s at the moment but I really feel it's time for an upgrade.
To be honest I would say the MTM's are better sounding speakers all around. ESPECIALLY if you're trying to mix in an untreated space. The BX8's (which have now been replaced, check out my newer videos) are decent, but the MTM's are better. People LOVE saying that the M-Audio gear isn't good. It's good, not great, but I used mine for many years and was able to make some really good mixes on them.... but then I got the MTM's and I could hear my music more clearly.
About the monitor wobbling. Could it be that you need to screw the plain dented ring up so it touches the monitor and keeps it steady? I'm pretty sure is just that... most people don't know that that rings are ment to stabilize whatever is put in misc stands
@@GaragebandandBeyond well, I'm glad you solved it. But I gotta say, that's more a problem of the mic stand and not so much a monitor flaw. Great video, BTW. Thanks!
Yes I do, but that is because I have a Presnous Monitor Station and that has it's own speaker output level, so I set the levels across all 3 sets of monitors from that.
doesnt the stand have another little piece that you turn counter-clockwise to push against the monitor to hold it in place? It appears to, but im not sure.
@@GaragebandandBeyond Gotcha. Take one of the stands to your local hardware store, find a nut that matches the thread pitch, a washer, and a rubber washer, x2 each. Then you can make exactly what I described. The rubber washer will protect your speakers, the washer with apply more distributed pressure, and the nut will be what tightens the speake to your stand and eliminate flop. Shouldn't cost more than a few dollars if that.
Hi Lewin, I am hesitating between the Genelec 8030 Dpm ans the Iloud NTM. The Genelec are more expensive but It seems like the NTM are really good. I am not a pro engineer but I need smth that I can trust because I am learning more and more and I don’t want any regret about my shoppings. Do you think it worths to get those one instead of the Genelec ?
I worked on Mackie hr824s, Sceptre s6, Jbl lsr4328p, and these MTMs will make you feel good about your mixing. expensive monitors doesn't equal "expensive sound"🤔
GaragebandandBeyond awesome thanks, but since you’re also mainly using the MTM’s for production and mixing, when do you use your mixcubes? At the end for a final check? Or do you use them more frequently throughout?
@@RaphyJmusic They're definitely part of the final check, but I do use them during the process as well. They are a GREAT way to tell if you have too much or not enough low end. Also there are MANY times, where I turn them on and leave them on. Because if your mix sounds good on them it'll sound good everywhere. So after EQing is done and I'm on the balancing stage, I go to the Mixcubes and work on them for a while.
GaragebandandBeyond okay awesome thanks for taking the time on that !! I find balancing low end / low mid one of the hardest things so the MixCubes sound like they would be good for me. This has made me excited to try them haha
GaragebandandBeyond Absolutely you can hook a sub up to these, you get something like a KRK 8s, Yamaha HS8S, etc., and just run your audio interface into the sub .. .. and the subs out to each MTM in. You don’t need it for mixing absolutely .. but as a musician (keys) for 40 years now I need the inspiration of a sub for playing, composing, jamming, tracking, etc., then for mixing the sub’s (and I have several) are usually turned off. Also I have no problem mixing on my Yamaha HS8’s compared to my HS50’s .. or Mackie PBM 6.5’s .. or IK’s. The 8’s sound great in my un-treated room along with the KRK 10S sub that they are hooked too .. and provide a lot of inspiration for sitting down and playing .. and coming up with song ideas.
@@chrisstrobel3439 hi Chris...could you please tell me more about setup with a sub on these? Can one still use the ARC that is built into the MTM’s? Thx
The iLouds for sure. They give you a much nicer sound to listen to plus they're really portable. I use mine outside often and they're fantastic. amzn.to/39QJWZK
Can somebody help me with a decision? I need compact Monitors and i have to choose. Currently on my List are → iLoud MTM → EVE audio SC203 → Genelec 8320 or Genelec 8020 Its so hard to decide between Monitors when you can not listen to them, before you buy them...
@@4thumbsdown Yeah, i got the iLoud MTM's. They are a good fit for my acoustically horrible Room. Maybe if i ever upgrade my living-situation i will also upgrade my monitors, but for the moment im quite happy. (and the bass, oh my god :D)
I'm connecting these to a standard laptop, is an interface required with these or just a cable? I just have an 1/8" coming out of the laptop. If so, any reccomendations for a good solid (but not epically priced) interface? Thanks so much
This video was perfect! When I found out that’s all it was, I was overjoyed, a YEAR of experience and that’s all there is? Awesome! I ordered these BECAUSE of this video. And he’s right, why on EARTH did they not use a standard rocker switch?
