Ilsa and Lisa Klinghoffer Reflect on Their Landmark 1985 Lawsuit Against PLO Terrorists 

Ilsa and Lisa Klinghoffer know all too well that Americans are not immune to terrorism. Their father, Leon Klinghoffer, was murdered by Palestinian terrorists who hijacked the Achille Lauro cruise ship off the coast of Egypt. That was on Oct 7, 1985 - exactly 38 years before Hamas carried out its brutal massacre in southern Israel.
When the Klinghoffer sisters heard the horrific news coming out of Israel this past fall, they knew what pain the victims’ families were feeling. They knew it on a visceral level.
But it’s because of Ilsa, Lisa and their courageous mother, Marilyn, that US citizens or family members of US citizens injured or killed in the 10/7 attack can seek justice in federal court.
Back in 1985, the Klinghoffer women successfully sued the PLO. That case set the precedent for the lawsuit that ADL has now filed against 3 state sponsors of terrorism - Iran, Syria & North Korea - on behalf of 100+ 10/7 victims.
