ILYUSHIN IL-76 MIDNIGHT Departure with INCREDIBLE SOUND 

The 76 is a beautiful aircraft. We used to see them coming into Heathrow many years ago, they sounded and looked like something out of Thunderbirds!

That engine whine tho. Eargasm.

IL-76, TU-62, B707, DC8, CV880, VC-10 and B52. The best sounding aircraft ever made!

the fastest 10 minutes clip ever! What a wonderful video. This sound gives me ear orgasms, sort of like the old Galaxy. Only 10 DC-8 left, oh dear however that's better than none. I am old enough to remember the Caravelle, TU-104, BAC 111 and naturally the Comet. Once in while we got the Convair Coronado in Schiphol. Indeed those were the days.As impressive as the A380 is, watching the take off is positively boring, like all the other Tupperware Planes. Ilyushin is a monster plane

Hey, this is just what I need to go to Grandma's house. Really, this is one cool and very capable cargo plane and it's cool looking as well.

Was quite used to this sound in the late 80's and early 90's untill those planes got banned in civil aviation in Europe, I lived under the aproach glide slope of MST (Maastricht Aachen Airport) in the Netherlands. But sometimes I still can see and hear an IL-76, the planes aren't banned from landing on military airports and for catastrophe aid purposes. Sometimes they do so on GKE (Geilenkirchen nato airbase) and planes landing or taking off from here cross the same region as planes from MST do. The IL-76 isn't the only Russian bird visiting GKE, the AN-124 also does and several months ago I even saw an AN-12 flying over my house!

I always had a fascination with the IL-76. Maybe it's because I flew the Lockheed C-141 for 6 years.

It was a fine day of plane spotting to see an IL-76 at Kloten CH. Any time just about any Russian plane landed at Kloten in the 80's it was easily the loudest plane. I can remember seeing planes from "troubled" parts of the world get an armoured car escort after landing at Kloten (in the 80's)

I flew in the cargo compartment of an Il-76 in North Korea (Air Koryo, around Pyongyang). It´s damn loud inside

I've always wondered this. Do military aircraft engines purposely have a different sound so that we know to climb under a rock or something? lol. I had lived near a C5 Galaxy base for 12 years and I knew one was coming 5 min before it was overhead. The Russian designer's have good eyes for looks. This is a really beautiful plane that sounds as good if not better then it looks. Thanks for the post!

these eastern europeans planes are very interesting.. my favorites are an-124, an-12 and this.

You can still see the less noisy DC8-72's and 73's I admit... not as nice sound as the P&W JT3D's but... they still fly. :-) And YES... that's what turbine engines used to sound like.

at Marquette, Michigan airport is an IL-78 (tanker) waiting per problems elsewhere.

Il-76 with classic engines are banned in EU, but not in case of military cargo or army flight.
