I've followed you for a few years, great video I shall be trying tomorrow. Also I really appreciate your comments on cost etc. Someone who has their finger on the pulse in a wonderful and humble way. Thanks Latif 🎉
OH. MY. GOD. The man is back. UK cooking quality just increased. Hope you had a great time away Latif! Appreciate you still putting videos out! Looking forward to a more frequent schedule again. Much love to you brother!
Made this today. Great and simple recipe - I was always ending up with the dhal too thick, the ratio of water to red lentil here was perfect. Reminded me of Indian restaurants when I was growing up in England. I used leftover ghee from frying onions (birista) for a biryani, which smelled amazing, and couldn't stop myself adding cumin seeds and fresh curry leaves to the tadkha along with a tablespoon of kasuri methi. Will definitely make again.
I made this last night, it was delicious my daughter whos not a fan of lentils loved it. and your right its very simple and takes less than half hour. i didn't have ghee so i just used oil and i also had ginger and garlic paste so i just used that and put the chillies in when i cooked the lentils, tomatoe and onions. i was wonderful
Welcome back. Love your recipes, but anything with lentils are our favourite. We make a version of this every week, which does us two nights. It's bonkers when reheated and if you go easy on the ghee it's cheap and wholesome.
Smashing. I'll be doing it differently. I'll be using olive oil instead of ghee . That's what happens when you get to 70. You start looking after your heart a bit more. But the thing is you have given me the proportions and I really appreciate that.
Using olive oil is definitely healthy but extra virgin olive oil has a strong fragrance and taste that affects the flavor of the dal(lentils). I have tried this recipe with mustard oil and ghee and it turned out amazing.
Great simple recipe and was at the restaurant in September last year while over from Ireland! Brings back memories being at the restaurant. One item on the bucket list completed! Wife and I if over to see her sister in Stafford this year will be at the restaurant again! 🙂
Welcome home bruv! Great recipe, I’ve been making something similar for years, great comfort food! Love dal, can’t get enough of it! Keep up the great work bruv!
Thank you for sharing this . I’m used to making daal but tried your method and recipe and it was amazing. My husband is still talking about how lovely it was a week later 😊 Love your veggie recipes and your passion for cooking. Keep up the good work
So glad and relieved you're back. It was a long and arduous wait. I've cooked this recipe, and it's delicious. I would definitely recommend others to give it a go!
Tarka Dhal is my favourite side dish, or main dish for that matter!! I've always cooked it by frying the onions etc first, so going to give this a try this weekend. Great video
Salaam Brother, welcome back. We make that dish here in South Africa and simply call it Dahl Curry. We start with the onions and chillis and add chicken or lamb marinated in masala and garlic and ginger and then add the washed red lentils last with the required amount of liquid. I add a little sugar for my kids and we eat it with some white rice. It's a family favourite. Tramakasie (shukran) for the recipe. From Cape Town.
Chef, if you pulverize the cooked lentils a bit and 😊then add the onions and tomatoes the dhal tastes even better. Once the onions and tomatoes cook into the dhal, you can then do the rest of the process, it is the best meal ever ❤❤❤❤
First came by this dhal from an old Mhada Jaffrey cook book. Personally, I prefer what you've done with the Masoor Dhal here - another cracker of a dish that's simple to make yet so tasty. This has now become one of my recipes in my kitchen menu at home. Shukriya! PS My friend first turned me on to your 'One pot chicken Bhuna'. Stellar! Also, I've been watching you on your travels in Bangladesh. Enjoyable and culturally enriching for the viewer. I enjoy travel in India. Not made it to Bangladesh yet though. PPS We must come to eat at your restaurant because the food you cook is delicious. I am based in Nottinghamshire.
I cooked this earlier this afternoon - as good as the 3 daal bhuna - as if that could be beaten. Simple but very very effective. Wanted to take some to friends tomorrow - my wife snacked on it too much for that to happen !
I love your channel and this dish is just perfect can I just ask would this be possible to do in a slow cooker as I’m often out working and then I would just come back and do the tarka bit at end ? keep up your inspiring menus they are delicious
I haven’t cooked daal in slow cooker before however it should be fine cook down the daal and once the consistency of daal is breaking away then do the tadka.
Thank you for getting back to me that was so kind as I know you’re a very busy man and I have tried it in the slow cooker and it worked brilliantly thank you so much
I've missed your videos, have made several of your recipes and they've all been great, much appreciated by my kiwi son-in-law who prefers Indian food to others. Would it be possible to use curry instead of chillies in this recipe? I'd love to make it but can't eat chillies and I'm not sure that just the onion and garlic would be enough flavour.
Good to see you well .. love a good Dal …. Made something similar last night with coconut milk and spinach…. Very tasty even if I say so myself.. Any chance of a sag pannier…one of me faves ..
daft question. what difference do the red chillis make as they are dry and not cooked very long, plus would you eat them. bin with you for years and love your recipes. r.
Because of health issues, I cannot consume fats and salt which bring out the flavors. Without those two ingredients, your lovely recipe won't be so tasty, but I'll make this daal anyway. Thanks for sharing.
I added 1 mug red lentils and 4 mugs water but it was much too watery. Can you clarify what you mean by ‘cup’ - how many grams of lentils and how many ml of water please?
Your wife is a lucky woman! Bismillah for breakfast, you've gotten so many of us saying it pouring a bowl of cornflakes without giving it a second thought. Have you thought about a book?
Interesting with only turmeric, chili and garlic in this one. I'm going to do it that way next time. I love those ingredients very much (especially good quality turmeric). I'd be so otherwise tempted to put in cumin and coriander... but I'll restrain myself and give this a try.
@@LatifsInspired Update: I finally got around to making this and it is superb the simple flavours work so very well. truly comfort food. thank you, Latif!
Love the channel... but one thing Latiff - Ive heard you say you use vegetable oil instead of ghee for health reasons...Ghee is FAR healthier than that industrially produced stuff... its a shame many asians have adopted the garbage in place of natural fats like coconut and ghee...
