This demo reel for Image West was circulated to TV stations in the late '70s. At this time, this was cutting edge computer animation for broadcast, with a lot of work being done for ABC Sports.
This was sourced from a Betamax recording that I made from the tape that Image West sent out. I believe it was a U-Matic (3/4") as if it had been something better, like quad tape, I would have saved it. As a result, this is not up to my usual standards, but it's the best that I can do.

60 frames per second is the way that Scanimate deserves to be seen

This has been posted to YT before from a bad 3/4” copy, and only in 30fps. Always nice to see Scanimate material in 60fps.

Thanks! I wish I’d a 2-inch quad copy of this, but I’d guess since this was a sales tool intended foe viewing in offices, they wouldn’t have sent out any in that format.

@@VPR2B Even Dave Sieg, who worked on a lot of this stuff, and has the last remaining Scanimate machine, has difficulty finding and/or transferring the original 2" tapes. Much of his archive is on 3/4" or VHS. Recently he actually found a 2" copy of one of the Computer Image Corp. reels, but hasn't released that improved copy in full.

@@VectraQS That's good information - thanks. Sad to think how much of this great stuff has been lost.

Honestly, this is pretty high quality. It's so satisfying seeing scanimate footage in such a smooth framerate plus the fact this is all nicely preserved.

At 2:50 is the scanimate animation for the then-ABC Bakersfield, California affiliate KBAK-TV's (now CBS affiliate) "29tv Monday Night Movie" which used ABC's Night Movie theme.

5:15 6:36 7:49 I think this is actually from 1977, as January 31 on Monday would only occur on this year. Plus, there was some Montreal 1976 and US Open ident

Very true, but remember this was a demo reel, so it was compiled using material that they had created in the past.

I'd like to know what other music was used in these animations other than the two that RU-vid was able to detect.

A good eye for graphic design and plenty of scanline manipulation and some trickery with the knobs on the machine. Such techniques aren't all that common nowadays since everything is all digital. Everything is all either minimalism or 3D cgi. Though there are still plenty of nice graphic designs out there even now, it's just that the trends have changed.

Now that you mention it, it DOES sound like June Foray. Her natural voice has a certain warmth to it that's pretty recognizable.

That wasn't Scanimate, it was actual digital CGI--one of the earliest uses of it in a feature film, though there had been isolated instances slightly earlier. However, I think Moff Tarkin's targeting display when the rebel base is emerging from behind Yavin was made using some Scanimate-like analog technique.

By 1978, this was extremely outdated. This seems at home in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Edit: The WJBK logos are from 1968.

Looked up wjbk on here, and the earliest I can find that still had that same logo was from 1977 and one of the comments did say they remembered the jingle being there in the 70s. The singers used kinda does match up with early 70s at the very least, you often hear that same group in Dr. Seuss tv specials from the 70s, like The Lorax for instance.

If you look at some of the content you can glean the dates. The ABC Olympics for example have "1976" Incorporated into them. Likewise, "Tony Orlando and Dawn Rainbow Hour" premiered in 1976. Or maybe your point was that you believe this animation "looks" like it's from the late '60/early '70s?
@MattMcIrvin

It's definitely years' worth of work--and Scanimate had been around for a while: "The Electric Company" was making heavy use of it in 1971. But this stuff was still everywhere in the late 70s, even if it was being superseded.

Re. the ”Switch” open: That likely means Image West did the open for WOR-TV's ”The 4 O'Clock Movie” which used the same graphic pattern, no?
