I've pretty much decided that I'd only adopt old or handicapped (blind etc.) dogs / cats. It sucks that we have so little time together, but it's a small price to pay to know that their twilight years will be spent comfortable and loved.

This. I have a big house with 4 cats - all from the shelter. I'm looking for one (maybe two) more - but I want a senior. I've been to a couple of shelters - but none of them has picked me (yet). I'll keep looking until one finally DOES decide that I'm their person.

@@mortensteen I would imagine that putting what seems to be an elderly (and at the time of his rescue a seemingly well fed dog, he probably had been fed by people in the neighborhood) dog through an operation may not be best for him, unless absolutely necessary for his well being. My dog went blind in two days and it was heartbreaking! I would find her stuck behind furniture or behind doors turning her head this way and that trying to understand what was happening to her. I began sleeping downstairs and reorganised the house for her and put up a fence in the garden as she kept falling down the wall. It took her a while to adjust but in the end her illness got too much for her poor body and she passed away in my arms a year ago and my heart will never mend, I miss her so much.

And he had a lot of vomit around him... It was, the worst day of my life... I still miss him ; ^ ;

sparkelo frostedfacesfoundation.org/frosted-faces-9/?rq=Pharaoh Hey everyone it took some digging but I have a small update about our boy. After the video and training with the team from hope for paws. He has gotten better at not biting out of fear but has a long way to go.He is still very nervous... Walks along the walls, stays to himself but obviously really well house broken so as soon as he knows he's outside he goes to the bathroom and gets back to his safe space. He can't produce tears so the blindness is caused by the severe dry eye. I think they are working on restoring his vision though completely. With the link provided, you can find out about him now. He's about half way down the page and honestly just to give you a heads up, you can tell he's struggling all over his face in that picture so you may cry like me. If anyone has the means to provide a home for him I personally owe you a hug and many thanks. Because he's "raised in the streets" I think he needs a home where he can roam and have his independence. They did.... he had freedom, food, water. Just wish they gave him a friend. You might think this is bad... but I think its one of the good life he could’ve had. Other option is beig starved, being abused, etc... I think the people there were also smart because they didnt stupidly call a shelter which might ended up killing him. I wish people would stop trying to act like If it were them, it would’ve been different. People who think like that usually ends up doing more harm than good to the dog.

These videos make me so sad, happy & angry. People are really disgusting! How can you abandon any animal or watch an animal fend for themselves for so long
5 лет назад
To abandon a dog is something entirely different but to watch it fend for himself... Is understandable. Most people hardly get by in their lives so I'm pretty sure they at least gave food or water as a community. There are always people that try to do at least little acts of charity if more is not possible. Those people probably cared for the dog as it survived 10 long years in that region. They even called Hope For Paws - it isn't something people do if they don't care. Don't judge without knowing. It's utterly unfair.

@ exactly what i was thinking. Even dogs from surrounding area where they catched him were barking when they catched him. It mean that was his home he was safe there. Even nabouring lady also knew him and came to see whats happening. I really do appreciate rescue work in general but I dont know if this rescue is good or not for the dog. This dog is blind. He can not see you or whats happening around. He is totally dependent on his other senses like smell and hearing. He is used to the smell and sound of the perticular area where he was living. He was accostomed to people around him in that area. He knew where to find food and water unless he won't servive for 10 long years on his own. I am not saying that they did wrong but this dog is different. Now he have to get used to all new smells and sounds all over again. I dont know if it is good or bad for him as he is already 10years old.
@marieknep5567
@marieknep5567 5 лет назад
@ And yet they didn't think to call an organization a while ago? It doesn't matter if they're doing charity like that when they were literally 10 buttons away from an organization who could actually HELP the dog. It doesn't matter if he knew how to survive, because that isn't the same case with others. You do NOT let a domesticated, blind animal wander around on the streets, because one rogue care from someone who isn't around that area could end it all.
@amrutad6585
@amrutad6585 5 лет назад
@Andrew Ongais its not i am angry on her actions. But i am concern about that blind dog and really hoping that he get used to his new surroundings asap. He can not see. So it is difficult for him to build trust on new smells, sounds and people. Nothing else. Rescuing a dog is a good think but rescuing a blind dog and shifting to another area is in my opinion lil hard on that poor soul who cannot see the people who have rescued him or even for the matter where they are taking him. It is difficult. Try on being blind folded for one day in totally new area for you with the people you dont even know then i think you will understand what i am concerned about.

I was shocked (and disgusted) to hear that as well. It beggars belief to know that in such a residential area nobody would have taken him under their wing and at least have made sure he was getting regular food and some love and affection even if they weren't able to give him a home. Also, it's shocking that none of the residents in the area reported his situation to a rescue group before now - that should have been done years ago. It just shows how apathetic and uncaring many people are.

I have taken three dogs from different countries. A very old Dog Huskey mix,15 years,almost deaf and blind. Kai spend 10 years of his life in the shelter -he is now 8 months here Sad news about Kai: in the almost 10th month we had to fall asleep the old guy, his bones did not go along with the extreme heat, the time had come to say goodbye to this wunderful old friend ): The other is Ben, almost 5 years old ,suspended and hit,then came to a shelter with some bone fractures but all have healed well. He's now over 2 Years here. At last Ari, 6 years old shepard mix. He lived on a garbage dump for 2 years,then came to a shelter He is now 1 and a half year here after one Week he does not need a collar or a leash, listen to the word without dog school.he is absolutly faithful. My friends (also included two Cats)now live with me in a small Farm in Germany. Everyone has found their place,with a friend she loves! Tell you what, if you were serious about adopting this dog, you could go to any shelter near you and adopt a dog there. Between today and tomorrow, an estimated 9,000 dogs will be euthanized in shelters across the country. If you adopt one of these dogs, that number drops to 8,999. Maybe the 272 people who gave a thumbs up could do the same instead of simply giving a thumbs up. We can all say nice things . We can all applaud or give a thumbs up when we someone says what we want to hear. We can say nice things - some of us might actually mean them. But saying something and doing something are 2 different things. Adopt a shelter pet, save more than one life. If you cant adopt, try to foster or volubteer a few hours a week at a shelter. If you are unable to do that, you can help by educating yourself on why spaying and neutering is so very important and you can help bring awareness to people . You can help animals by reporting animal abuse and/ or animal neglect. You can help animals by not buying them from irresponsible back yard breeders. You can help by reporting people who engage in cruel dog fighting rings. You can help.

Astal Lopes: Everyone CAN help - if they choose to and if they care. Of course, people who don't give a damn and who are selfish won't. Also, to help does not necessarily mean spending lots of money, so even if someone is on a low income they can still help out in other ways. I'm not exactly rolling in money but, for example, I feed a neighbourhood cat that I see every day who I'm not sure has a home or, if she does, if her owners just leave her outside to fend for herself a lot of the time. I see her out in all weathers. I have a cat myself who gets quite spoiled by me and who has plenty of food whenever she wants it. When my cat leaves some of her food I give that to the other cat, when I see her, and I also give her more food (and cat treats too!) as well so I know that at least she will have one good meal per day, but often I give her two!! I'd love to adopt her myself but i'm not in a position to do that at the moment.

I hear lots of dogs barking in the background, I imagine they belong to people in the Neighbourhood? I find it rather sad that this old dog has been in the same place for ten years and people would rather get other dogs than take on the one that so clearly needed their help.
@allyrussell1195
@allyrussell1195 6 лет назад
Pharaoh was in that place for two years, in the subtitles it said ten because it was explaining how many years other dogs were left there. On the other hand, when he was in that place he was very aggressive and the people in that neighborhood probably are not professionals so they couldn’t approach him.

No it says "he had been surviving on the streets for ten years." Meaning 2 years at near this neighbor. Then when they asked around they learned from others it was a decade in different places.

There must be an update on the Frosted Faces Foundation website, or perhaps their FB page. They're the rescue group through which he is being fostered (unless he's already been adopted, but this video was only posted in April so he might still be in foster care). I also want to see an update for Pharaoh and to know whether he has been able to have his eyes fixed. I really hope that there is something that can be done to at least even minimally restore a little bit of his eyesight.
