I hate the fact companies use Tatooine as this central important planet in every single piece of media like holy shit the whole point is that it’s an unimportant shit hole
That Assassin's Creed showing showcased exactly what I knew the problem would be. They want to have their black samurai without dealing with the inconvenient real world implications that would accompany it. This is Sengoku Era Japan; 99.9% of people in this period have never seen or even heard of someone who's black and yet you have the first thing they notice about Yasuke being that he's a samurai-that's not his defining feature and everyone knows it. It's like if you got pulled over by a green Martian in a police uniform and your first reaction was "What's the problem, officer?" instead of "What the hell are you!?". Every single NPC should be stopping to stare and point at him in disbelief and every line of dialogue should revolve around the colour of his skin for it to have any semblance of grounding in reality. I swear you'd get a more noticeable reaction from the locals actually going to rural Japan in 2024 as a black person than Ubisoft's Yasuke is getting in 1582...
Plus, even I. Regular Japan, they see a black guy they will stare.. back then people would be like HOLY smokes oni! Literally Asia, black people were called black person/ghost.. white people are literally white perosn/ghost.. cause people have never seen these people before.
@@jarroncarlton You've left 6+ comments on this channel, on MULTIPLE videos, solely claiming people are "Crying" about this and providing no argument for why this is okay and we are blowing it up over nothing. My brother in Christ, you are the one crying.
The fact that he's a damn samurai is telling on it's own. Such a great pick for a game series rooted in stealth to play as someone in massive armour that frequently has banners/flags on them to let everyone know who they are. Very subtle. That they didn't just go with a ninja is so stupid it's confusing, assassin ninja vs "templar" samurai trying to take over Japan is such an obvious slam-dunk that they proceeded to fumble as badly as only Ubisoft can.
The problem with Ubisoft games is that even if they look good, that doesn't negate the horrible experience of having to go through 100 hours of repetitive, boring, bland, cookie-cutter gameplay. Clear towers and camps, run from point A to point B and do more of the same.
This, while Bethesda game has similiar issue (even worse) at least they have a strong community base and game is easy to mod so getting them year later is fine, Ubisoft games though not so much. Except for Starfield lol don't get it
The problem with Yasuke is not if it was a Samurai or not, is that he has no "Historical Legend" as they are trying to paint. "Maybe, he existed, and was black", that's his whole "history". He achieved nothing, and he only served for over a year. He would have barely learnt the language; he would have never learnt the blade to a decent standard even if given all the chances and resources assuming the best treatment he could've gotten which is almost on the realm of fantasy, the "exotic pet" theory is the most realistic. His only feat was actually shameful. Being branded as "harmless" by Nobunaga's enemies, not deemed worth to kill nor worth to keep, and just shipped back to slavery after that year. In other words, our MC is a historical LOSER!
The amount of armor Yasuke is wearing is absolutely ridiculous. It would be like a European knight walking around town in a jousting suit. I lived in Japan for 16 years and went to some notable museums, never saw anything even close to that level of bombastic excess, even for the really baller daimyo. As for the fighting style, swordplay of that era is revered as a highly sophisticated art of finesse and style. Clonking people like a caveman with a big club is rather insulting.
bro is just destroying their amors in a few club hits also, it looks so fucking dumb... like actually seeing the armor get torn to pieces; what the fuck are they actually trying to showcase here? plus the whole godlike powers on cooldown that we've had since AC Odyssey, it just looks so bad.
Did you think this was a real life simulator. There isn’t a single game that doesn’t have you running around in full armor. The kanabo existed during that time period and people used it. It’s not insulting.
That big club is literally made for clonking people like a caveman. You have a shrewd perception of what the samurai are, and how they fought. Battles involving samurai are anything but sophisticated. And katanas were never used as a main weapon
Jak & Daxter came out in 2001, 23 years ago, first console game with no loading screens in game... and then we have Starfield (which to be honest is on a whole different scale)
No i can guarantee you that that employee there see nothing wrong with what is presented. I think it's a case where that mentality is omnipresent since their school.
If AC Shadows only had that shinobi chick as the protagonist, I guarantee you it would be a much better game. Whole immersion thing aside with being the only black guy in Japanese history but nobody reacting to him like an oddity aside, the whole point of Assassins is that you’re supposed to blend in, be stealthy and agile. That shinobi gameplay looked great with a lot of potential and we already had a samurai game a couple years ago. If they put all their focus on the shinobi game, it would’ve been great! But I guess nothing says modern Assassin’s Creed like armored giants with the subtlety as fucken Kratos when killing people. I want to play as an unsuspecting assassin ninja, doing parkour and sneaking my way through guards or blending into crowds like assassins are meant to be. But no, half the resources of this game is going to the most obvious, attention grabbing guy in all of Japan whose play style will just be a watered down version of Ghost of Tsushima. And trust me, it will be a watered down version of that game because GoT was focused on being a samurai game. It didn’t have half its resources going to a completely conflicting experience. We could’ve just had a pure shinobi stealth game. Something we rarely see nowadays unlike open and bombastic combat shit that is literally everywhere! Fuck Ubisoft. Should’ve just branched off and make a new franchise of rpgs and left Assassin’s Creed as Assassin’s Creed.
This trend where a female protagonist being hot is somehow offensive is just ridiculous. It's not unrealistic expectations when your character can do what they do in these games. Imagine a game developer designing a female character and the bosses go: "Make sure to make her a solid 5“ 😂
It wouldn't be an issue if the character model was based on the voice actress. Jedi Survivor has "ugly" characters like Cere Junda but thats literally what the actress looks like. It's not as if they made her ugly on purpose
@@TheMasterblah I agree, if the actor looks like that, I'm fine with it. Hey, I'm a solid 5 too 😂 The problem is when they are doing it because of the stupid agenda. Suddenly men liking a beautiful woman is somehow misogynistic 🤷🏻
@@1SmokedTurkey1 You just know they sat around in a room trying to brainstorm a way to "modernize" feudal Japan before someone finally searched online for black samurai and found a guy who we don't even know was black, just that he had skin dark enough that he was ordered stripped and scrubbed of ink. Could have been Indian for all we know.
@@Slvl710 I mean imagine we played as a really bad character for once : an outlaw not because of some trauma in the past that is trying her best "doing what is right" but somebody that is really ready to do anything to gain money and power. Kill beast so you can "take" their baby monster as pet , do awful act and betray for profit ect ect At least it would be interesting and new
Its literally not though lmfao it may have graphics won but as someone who beat Ghost and just saw this trailer. The stealth gameplay for Shadows is already 10X better and even the yasuke side has more finishers than Ghost ever even thought of. Stop it.
Nobunaga wanted 'Yasuke' around for the same reason Mike Tyson had pet tigers. A very cool novelty and status symbol that was rare and interesting, and unattainable for everyone else.
I love how they always try to sell gameplay elements that sounds cool but are probably gonna end up being barebone and the same stuff we have seen all the time in AAA
Nah, the gaming industry itself is a joke. Many other companies like Bioware and EA aren't better. As long as HQ remains in California, nothing will change.

Of course that since it's a black Samurai they couldn't just have normal japanese music, they would need to add a "sick beat" to it. These dudes are so out of touch it's insane

My biggest issue with most of these is the protagonist. From AC, outlaws and avatar I don’t want to play as any of them. I’d rather play as a traditional Japanese samurai, a custom character in outlaws and in avatar playing as the marines sounds much cooler than some tribal alien. Then there’s the huge price and the fact that Ubisoft doesn’t believe we should own these games. And how boring they always turn into.
Well what you want make no sense lmao. Star wars outlaws is canon so being able to create a random character is not possible. You play the story as someone and that’s how most story are. Not every game as to let you create one.
@@leiferikson5029 I think that's one reason the studio started doing their own thing as well instead of doing E3 is E3 started letting actual gamers and regular costumers attend. So they actually had to start showing good products and have even better live marketing for people to get hyped. Now they have all gone away from E3 and each has their own thing, can go back to the paid / shill crowds that are private and completely curated like the old days to keep up a false illusion.
For Assassin Creed Shadows. For me when I wanted Assassin Creed set in Japan I wanted a Japanese male protagonist in a Japanese setting. When I saw Yasuke I thought of course they fucking did. They saw him and obviously check the checkmark for whatever DEI/ ESG bullshit. I am irked because using Yasuke severely limits the scope of Sengoku Jidai we can explore if this the only time we are using Japan. I wanted to see Nobunaga's rise to power from the Battle of Okehazama to the Battle of Nagashino and Hideyoshi reign with the Imjin War and Tokugawa Ieyasu victory at Sekigahara and Siege of Osaka Castle. All events that Yasuke isn't available for. But whatever the damage is done. Y'all can throw Irish William Adams in my face be we all know he was a cheap knock off of Geralt of Rivia and it was made by a Japanese company anyway with pure fantasy horror elements. What's funny is he's English but for some reason they race bend him into being Irish. Like WTF? I am glad the game looks good and I think both gameplay styles are cool. I am just not feeling I am getting what I want with the game and to add the offensive monetization of the game by Ubisoft from the day one DLC and paying at a minimum 110 dollars to play on time it's also has a microtransaction store. It's been what since Black Flag or Origins they have this shit in a single player game and people fucking enable this shit? Whatever. I'll get the game. When it's 85% off in two or three years. Fortunately there are better quality games out there that respects my time and money more.
"of course they fucking did." 🤣 Could not have said it better. Combed like a 1000 years of Japanese history for the one DEI token you could contrive your game around. Slow-Ally clap for our heroes at Ubisoft.
Actually the saddest part is that the black people or LGB people are used the same way the girls in bikinis were used in the past. As cheap and easy items to put on the posters and ads of the product to get it noticed
@@ravensblade Agreed but with one caveat. Girls in bikinis were (are) used to sell items because they simply draw the eye and make one 'notice' the product. PoC/LGBT/Female (ugly) protagonists do get the product 'noticed' -- however beyond that -- they fulfill ESG business loan stipulations ... and they also build 'social capital' -- they're used to inoculate a game against criticism and bad reviews in an a priori way. If you don't like or buy the game you are a bigot. They're used to position a game/dev to punch down on it's customers.
No, you need help. You're in a woke cult where you can't see a problem with every game adding black strong wahmen as the PC and clear gay voices as narration. It's terrible, and has gotten so bad it's almost ruined gaming beyond repair. Are you a SW fan? Bc that got ruined by DEI. Nothing is immune, and now all of gaming is the next victim.
The big ass samurai with chunky and bad animations, let's make him a main character in an assassin's game. The shinobi looked way cleaner and better, her as a main makes sense in this game.
This is such a specific pet peeve but I can’t stand how modern Ubisoft games have button prompts on enemies. I don’t need to be constantly reminded to press X or R1 (AC) on every enemy to execute. Kills immersion. Their UI in general needs to get fixed and be less bland and sanitized feeling. At least Outlaws has a bit of style with the text.
I got banned from the r/assassinscreed sub because I said I thought a game set in like, the Malian Empire (West Africa) would be awesome. I said I wouldn’t care if there was not a single white, Hispanic, Latin, or Asian person in the game. I just want historical games to be historically-authentic. And I got permabanned by those racist mods.
@@LeftJoystick lol I also got banned, after someone said "Yasuke was a samurai because someone said it in an article" and I responded to him, respectfuly, with facts and proof.
@@LeftJoystick Don't pretend like you play AC games for historical authenticity. A historical figure that might've been a samurai being displayed as a samurai doesn't kill you and you can just play the other character if you want. Literally nothing wrong with it.
@@francescofioroni70 well GoT is developed by a way smaller company with 160 employees and it's a 4 years old game that got director's cut, basically slightly updated graphics and new expansion to the storyline while everything stayed the same. If AC Shadows graphics isnt 100x better when they have over 100x more people, they should quit their job lol. However, the gameplay for GoT is still better. Graphics in a game barely matters if the gameplay is way better.
1:19:00 a good example of the trust that he’s talking about is Final Fantasy 16. It has a gay relationship in it, and yet no one complained or called it ‘woke pandering’ or whatever. People trusted that the relationship was in there for actual storytelling reasons and not just arbitrarily inserted just to check a box.
Assassin's Creed: 1) A black man murders half the village and gets praised for it. 2) A woman kills a man while other men can't do anything to her without sexually harassing her and being sued for it. 3) Iconic Japanese culture. /s
I love how the gameplay was walking around slowly for 80%, and then the other 20% is trying not to be distracted by the cringe story and dialogue while doing a mission you don't care about. This is like everyday life as a millennial office worker camouflaged as a star wars game.
I am a huge Anno Player, may be cause im German who knows. I loved 1800, and I was kinda happy how much DLC it got and how expansive it became. I have no Idea how a roman Anno game came even to mind, i will see how it compares to 1800 cause thats right now peak Anno for me
I see no point in another anno playing in your average 1500-1900 age doing the whole build up islands thing once more after 1800 basically perfected it. So yea, i glad they are going to a totally different age.
I dont if its just me but Yasukes behavoir destroys the game.immersion for me. Him acting and fighting like he was borned and raised in japan and understands the culture very well is breaking the immersion for me so hard.
It break the immersion for me but with different reason. If Samurai can kill someone without reason, the whole plot of “Shogun” should be much shorter. But then in the AC trailer he just start beating solider without saying anything, it make me think he is a Viking from AC Valhalla more than a Samurai.
It’s almost like they replaced his model with the original japanese monk lol Guy was there for like 2 yeras.. lol.. acting like hes an expat thats been there for 10 😂😂😂😂
@@sachi8483 Yeah, the character was Japanese for a very long time during development and was blackwashed at the last minute. Real Yasuke was only in Japan for three years, couldn't speak the language, and surrendered after the only battle he participated in.
Yeah there's a lot of misunderstanding of Japanese culture in the game. That's kind of expected. As soon as I saw that the characters were speaking with broken English and an accent when they're in Japan I knew this would be a Hollywood version of Japan where everyone acts like a caricature.
In Outlaws it could well be hidden loading screens. This game is not from any Ubisoft Studio that published one of the main ip games like ac or wd. Massive has some very talented people though so it is possible that this will be one of the better Ubi games that we saw in the recent years.
The star wars game. While the character was sneaking into the desert dwellings. The sounds and music felt like they belong in a scene for sneaking into a forest base.
Naoe kills a dude without announcing her presence right in front of a "samurai", said "samurai" doesn't even chastise her for such dishonorable combat. Yasuke is a joke.
A lot of modern day conceptions we have about bushido are fantasies the Japanese created to beautify their history. Plenty of Samurai acted “dishonorably” all the time. For instance, many samurai who were rewarded for bringing the heads of their opponents on the battlefield would take the heads off corpses or even innocent people and present it to their lords. That’s the reality of human nature. And anyways, Naoe isn’t a Samurai and would not be expected to act like one.
@@alexelric7020 Honoring one's lord is the credo of the samurai, taking the head off a corpse because their master bids it isn't glamorous but it is within the confines of Bushido. My comment wasn't about Naoe, it was about how Yasuke permits Naoe's behavior without so much as a word nor wince of protest. You actually see true conflict in combat ethics better in a game like Ghost of Tsushima.
I am European and I don't want to play a black dude or a woman in Japan like I don't want to play a Chinese person (male or female) in ancient Egypt or some historical tribe war in Africa. "I am European and I don't want to play a black dude or a woman in Japan" To be fair, there are 100 hundreds of games where you can play a japanese male in japan.

Imagine Outlaws, but give the option to play as either a male or female, helmeted Mandalorian. Leave the damn helmet on. Even Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey pulled off the “two genders available in a single-player campaign” in a balanced manner. It could have been a slam dunk… but no, let’s use a main character no one can identify with and make her look worse than her actual mo-cap/body actress. The original woman they used as a source for this character is named “Humberly Gonzalez”, and she’s pretty af. I guess she was too good-looking for the purple hairs at Ubisoft.
If the protagonist was Boba Fett, people would call it a nostagia-inducing cash grab. Can only hope that this character has enough depth and story to integrate into the world as Cal Kestis did... but hopes aren't high!
The insane thing is Star Wars Outlaws could be such an amazing game that everyone wants if all they did was change the Main Character to Boba Fett and make it about him hunting bounties. There could be Jedi Boss fights and everything since he did hunt Jedi.
I guess they're doing away with the "alarm level" system where the entire army descends upon you if you start killing people in the new Assassin's Creed? Cuz it seems like they're just coming at him one/two at a time. Could it maybe be because if a black guy started murdering guards/soldiers in a town, and the entire military/guard force there pursued him, there's zero chance of him 'blending in' or such and the game basically ends at that point?
you mean notoriety? it hasn't been a good mechanic since ac3, good riddance. origins and odyssey didn't even have it at all i believe. that works best when the game focuses on a city or cities, since they're doing whole countries it's literally fodder and useless even logically speaking.
@@Myhaay Notoriety and it's ilk (like stars in GTA) have been a mainstay in gaming for like a decade, are you dense? There are tons of Asian/White women who game - you can see them on Twitch. I do not recall ever seeing a Black woman gamer channel. I feel like people are not realizing that Assassin's Creed isn't a documentary. It's a game, they can make whatever character do whatever. Considering that Yasuke's real story is barely a footnote, he's a perfect canvas to just make up a story. What i saw from ass shadow gameplay: they make Yasuke a literal super human, then try to make the swordplay sounds *super interesting amd realistic* while at the same time show the AI swing their weapon wildly and then got deflected/parried with the usual animation cancel in the ass ass sin game, Twice. That orchestral performance was probably the coolest part. I can appreciate that for what it is. Johnny Law went and had a bunch of super talented people do a live performance of the classic theme for a bit in a video which they learned in like an hour and they were so good, youtube took it down. In saying that, I'm so pirating this, I'll give it a go, it looks competently made, fun and emersive. I don't care if its reskinned Farcry, I enjoy(ed) those games and their formula, especially 3/4, I inject my own fun into them where they fall short doing dumb shit or stylising my gameplay like I did with 5-6, I'm still voting with my wallet and telling ubisoft to go 𝒻𝓊𝒸𝓀 themselves while still getting to enjoy the product, win win. I hope there is more to combat though.. And they better at least make that mod shit from boba fett useful and have some gta 5 faggio mod level speeder customization.
bruv.. Most people just want to see the setting that is representative of reality, Yasuke should have been a side character, maybe there could be a side quest to help him train or earn respect of Nobunaga to become a helper-NPC for the main Character or something like that. People would be outraged if the main character was White also btw.
I wish we had a sandbox star wars game like SWKOTOR 1 and 2. You make your own character, choose your own path... But nope, forced narrative stories is what we get.
The Star Wars outlaws game sort of hinted at a gta style infamy/wanted meter. Imagine. Imagine if the top level of the wanted meter was Vader coming for you, but every time he arrived it was an insta death pretty much. And one of the points of fully completing the game is getting strong enough to actually kill Vader with whatever loot/power/skill system the game has.
