Thanks to the James Webb telescope, that theory of the Big Bang may be rewritten. Since they’ve concluded that there is more to see beyond our previous understanding of the cosmic horizon. People who believe that God created the universe has no real concept of how big the universe is. Because if they did, they’d know how foolish it would be to think that you’re that important enough to hold that supreme cosmic being’s attention out of the rest of the infinitely vast universe.

You're right-the tenth dimension as we're picturing it here is an enfolded whole, all possibilities considered simultaneously, and that all adds up to "zero". Which means that zero is "full, not empty". But the 1st dimension is a line passing through 2 points. It's the 0 that we start from and the 10 that we end up with in this way of visualizing, that are intimately connected. My vlog "Why Do We Need More Than 3 Dimensions" discusses this idea some more, you might enjoy watching that one. Rob

@@DJ_Force Right, that’s why at 11:23 this video says this is “not the accepted explanation for string theory”. Nonetheless, this mental exercise gives people a way to visualize ten spatial dimensions, (plus “time” for an eleventh if that’s your preference), and string theory does also say our reality comes from ten dimensions. It also shows a way of thinking about the string theory concept of our reality being constrained at the third and seventh dimension by “branes”. What’s more interesting to me is how this visualization connects to Everett’s Many Worlds, Schrodinger’s insistence that consciousness is fundamental, ancient mysticism, and much more.

@mxeric1 It's important to remember that one infinity can be a subset of another but both can be infinite. For instance, if you were to start counting 0,1,2,3... and so on, you're heading towards infinity. If you count 0,2,4,6... you're also heading towards infinity. Is one a subset of the other? You bet! I've been thinking about this view of the 4th "dimension" (time) from the dimensions above it as a kind of sausage beginning with our birth and ending with our death, and relating it to things like intuition, deja vu, synchronicity and premonition. I've been wondering if these "anomalies" occur because a deeper part of our consciousness exists above the fourth dimension and can see the whole continuum of our existence, and sometimes it "leaks through" into our 3D mind.

@WuBoy80 This 6D shape consists of points that have some commonality, but they are not causally dependent. The 2011 game where two completely different teams played does not require the existence of the game we saw, so one is not dependent upon the other even though they share some commonalities in 4D and 5D space. In the same way, the set of points that make up the chair I'm sitting on have some connections in the 1st and 2nd dimension, but it's in 3D where that becomes a shape I call "chair".

But why time? (Im a researcher/game developer working on a project using non-euclidean geometry, and possibly a 4th dimension in games for my thesis) In this video, you assumed time as the 4th dimension, the basis of which being that time and space are relative. I believe time is just the numerical value that measures the quantity of change. It was created by us and we measure it with clocks. A number that just says when. Not a physical dimension in which change exists. Space alone is(could?) be the 4th dimension. What Im trying to get at is, (i was never a good teacher) instead of looking at the 4th dimension as '3d space + time', the 4th dimensions could be just 4 dimensions of space. Which means all your other dimensions cannot exist.
@10thdim
@10thdim 9 лет назад
Absolutely, that's what I've said over and over with this project. If we can't reconcile the fact that the fourth dimension is spatial and we only experience it in our particularly unique entropy-driven way because we're made out of atoms and molecules that are embedded within a three-dimensional membrane (a concept from string theory), then the logic of any additional dimensions beyond that is on shaky ground. The "arrow of time" is only one of the two possible directions in the fourth dimension, and anti-time is the opposing direction. Calling those two directions other names like "ana" and "kata" doesn't change what we're talking about: the dimension which is orthogonal to 3D space. Have you watched the 2012 version of this video? I believe it makes this idea clearer. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zqeqW3g8N2Q.html Good luck with your game! I'd love to see it.
@Mahesh_Shenoy
@Mahesh_Shenoy 9 лет назад
Well.. I don't know about how we can have more spacial dimensions, but there is a good reason why time is a dimension. You may think that time is something that we created (a mathematical concept) to measure the passing of events, but Einstein proved conclusively, that time is a physical thing, in his famous theory (which should be a law) of relativity. time and space are indeed relative. if we synchronize our clocks, and then head out in different directions and then meet up, our clocks will be out of sync due to motion. Motion affects the passage of time (which proves there is something called as time and is not some made up thing)
@inquizition9672
@inquizition9672 7 лет назад
FloatHeadPhysix no, he didn't. he vehemently and specifically denied this so I'm not sure where you're getting this information from. time cannot be, by technicality, a dimension of space, but is rather a measure of change from one moment to another. think about it.
@EksaStelmere
@EksaStelmere 6 лет назад
Space and time are the same, yo. Space-time. Like electromagnetism, it's actually all just one thing. Yes, the electrostatic force and the magnetic force are often split up for the layman, but they are actually the same force. The same is seemingly true for space-time.

Absolutely, turning off the annotations is the best if you're new to this video, in the same way that turning off the Bulgarian Closed Caption track makes sense if you don't speak Bulgarian (click on "CC"). These annotations were created for the many people who have watched this video over and over, to help them explore the interconnected web of ideas that spring from this approach to visualizing the timeless "everything" our universe or any other comes from. Glad you found it interesting!
@10thdim
@10thdim 13 лет назад
@mrdeadhead Yes, exactly, and it's why the helix logo for this project has the zero and the ten connected on a line. The point we start from is of indeterminate size - indeterminate doesn't really mean "no size", it means any size you care to image for it is correct. So, as I've said in several of my other videos, you can think of the tenth dimension in its unobserved state as also being indeterminate. That's one of the central ideas of my "new way of thinking about time and space". Thanks! Rob

@10thdim

@WuBoy80 It's the same in the 3rd - if I have a point at x,y,z, and all I change is the z co-ordinate, then you could say that the new point was "constrained" by the x and y plane. No constraint actually takes place, but it could appear that way to someone looking at the points. Likewise, if we're talking about the phase space of all possible states for our universe, then of course the states where all the different 2011 Superbowls are played will be near to each other in this 6D space.
@10thdim
@10thdim 13 лет назад
@WuBoy80 Another good question. If you look up the term "phase space" you can see one way of thinking about the 6th dimension. It includes all possible outcomes, including the ones that are not causally connected to our fifth dimensional "probability space" as I've been calling it, and which you're calling an "eventline". For example, there's now no eventline for us where the Steelers won the 2011 Superbowl - you'd need to move through the sixth dimension to get to that alternate causal chain.

@Soapers123 Right. North, up, forward, time are all directional words, not dimensional words. But left/right, up/down, north/south, east/west, time/anti-time are each ways of describing spatial dimensions. But they are arbitrary words. Whether you call the third dimension up/down, backward/forward, or whatever words you choose, you have to also acknowledge that there are other dimensions enfolded within. You can't have the third dimension without the second and first dimension, and so on. Rob

Consider this: "time" is a direction which can be in any dimension, since it's just a word for describing change from state to state. If absolutely every possible state for our own universe is confined to a certain position (or "brane") in the 7th dimension, then some other position would be a different universe, and the line that passes through those two positions would show a gradual slide from the basic physical laws of our universe to the parameters describing that other universe.

This agrees with the string theory ideas that we only see into the 5th dimension through a tiny planck frame window, and that our universe is constrained at the 7th dimension by a d7 brane, and with the M-Theory idea that there are 10 spatial dimensions plus time by showing how to visualize a timeless 10th dimension. As it says at the end of the video, it's not the explanation for string theory - but it is a creative way to visualize 10 spatial dimensions using the point-line-plane postulate.

M-theory says there are ten dimensions plus time. And that's what this video shows, a way to visualize a timeless tenth dimension. Time is a way to change from state to state, and "time", like "up" or "forward" can be a direction in any spatial dimension. As soon as we add time into this timeless ultimate ensemble (for instance, by having vibrating superstrings) we see other patterns emerge in the other dimensions - like the universe we're currently observing. Thanks for writing! Rob

@WuBoy80 Sure, in the same way that we can't have a 3rd dimensional co-ordinate without acknowledging the 1st and 2nd dimension. But in the same way, motion in the third dimension is not limited to the lines and planes of the first and second dimension, because of its additional degree of freedom. Likewise in the sixth dimension, to continue the sport analogy, we could imagine a shape encompassing every possible Superbowl 2011 game, many of which would not be causally connected to each other.
@10thdim

@WuBoy80 Also, when you say "your sixth dimension" it sounds like you think my "all possible Superbowl games" shape I'm describing is the entirety of the sixth dimension, when it's really only a tiny subset of that "phase space" we started this discussion with. In the same way, the chair I'm sitting on is 3D, but it's only a tiny subset of the third dimension. Thanks for the great questions! Rob

With this approach to visualizing the dimensions, a "point" in the 7th dimension represents all the possible timelines for a universe - beginning, middle, end as a single "thing". So a different point isn't just to all possible endings, it's to all possible "world lines" for a completely different universe. And the line that passes through those two points would potentially be traveling through the "points" representing other universes as we transition from one set of constants to the other.

With the flatlander on the mobius strip, this video says he would be unaware of the extra-dimensional gyrations he'd be going through. There might be some subtle clues if he knew what to look for and the plane he was traveling on wasn't blank and featureless, but practically speaking he'd be the same as us traveling down what feels like a straight road, unaware of the curvature of the earth. In all cases, it's the horizon that provides clues. So for spacetime, google "cosmological horizon".

so whats the difference between the 5th n 6th. What i got that you in 5th go back to 4 to change 5 through 6 , but 6th is another 5 so there has only to be one

@10thdim Thanks for the clarification and the link. It starts to come together. And I can't believe I forgot we were talking about 'branes' from the membranes of string theory. Yeah, as soon as my brain stops bleeding from this, I'll continue to reconcile the concepts. Thanks again for your time.

There are lots of ways of relating one spatial dimension to another, thinking of one dimension as being a "fold" of the previous is just one of many. You should look up the point line plane postulate, it's very related to this and is an accepted way of visualizing any number of spatial dimensions.

@amesea With this way of visualizing the dimensions, our "now" is a planck frame in the fifth dimension, connected to a 5D probability space of possible pasts and futures that connect to that now. This is why the fifth dimension is often portrayed as being "curled up at the planck length". The 6th dimension includes the versions of our universe which exist as part of the wave function for the universe but are inaccessible - like the universe where it's 2010 and Kurt Cobain is still alive. @unamericano out of all these other comments, that actually makes sense to me and follows the ideas being presented in this video.

Actually, with this approach I'm saying that a 2D flatlander would use the 3rd dimension to change from state to state, so "time" and "anti-time" would be the two directions in the 3rd spatial dimension for him, just as those are the labels you and I can use for the 4th. But those are not the only labels, and no matter labels we apply we have to remember that we're talking about the dimension which is orthogonal to the 3rd: a Minkowski space where our past, present and future are simultaneous.

Try thinking of this not as a "splitting", but as a way of organizing the information that becomes reality. In this visualization we're "locked in" at a position within the 7th dimension(which is interesting because string theory says we're embedded in 7D brane). Moving to other positions in that 7D system is moving to other universes completely separate from our own, kind of like moving along a line on a paper. 8D gives you a way to jump off that line to the 8D system of all physical universes.

@Problembeing Right! Yes, that's what it says in the book that this animation represents chapter one from. Videos such as "What Would a Flatlander Really See" - linked to in the annotated links in this video - also say the same thing. watch?v=73IGTygl_Q4

some concerns I have with my own explanation: *I do not know if there is any validity in defining a 0th dimension and regardless of whether 0 or 1 is the "lowest" dimension, I have no idea of what the "lowest" could be made of. ** I have arbitrarily ordered the three spacial dimensions "on top" of one another. I personally have no reason for claiming that they come in the order I listed as opposed to any other. cont'd...
@10thdim
@10thdim 12 лет назад
@si1verS0ul This relates to the fact that all of these dimensions we're talking about here are spatial, which means you can use something called the point-line-plane postulate to visualize how these dimensions relate to each other. So what you're referring to actually occurs across every dimension - think of the 3D universe as a point, it becomes a point on a line in the 4th dimension. Think of the 4D spacetime as a point, and it becomes a point in 5D probability space, and so on.

aaaaaaaaaaaaah, so THAT is how it worked. I mean i knew of the possibility but I was somewhat unsure post 6th dimension. Now that you put it that way, it makes perfect sense. Off I go to my 9th Dimension now.

In the anime Gurren Lagan, there is a battle that takes place in what the characters theorized as the rift between the 10th and 11th dimensions where all probability wasn't a factor. Thus, attacks used against either combatant would eliminate the probability of failure or being absorbed by shields. Pretty interesting stuff.

@Problembeing yes, i agree. Am i right if i say that the only view that a 2d organism gets is a side view? in that case the balloon does seem to have a line as the projection

could someone explain the 8th dimension, where one universe of infinite possibilites is connected to another. i cant understand the line that we're drawing here. when we're talking lines in 2d and 3d they can be wood or metal, but what would the line be in this case, imaginary?
@10thdim
@10thdim 14 лет назад
@PrimeSonicYT Try thinking of it this way - the next dimension up is how you change in the dimension below. In the same way up or forward is a direction - so is time, those are all directions, not dimensions. 4D and above is the way 3D creatures change. 5D is the way to change to a different 4D line. 6D is the way to change to a different probability space not on the 4D line or the 5D branches. 7D and above is how you change to a different universe that has different basic physical laws.

Actually, according to this video the first dimension is not a point but a line passing through two points.On the other hand, the "ten" that we arrive it is a point of indeterminate size that encompasses and enfolds all possibilities into perfectly balanced symmetry, so some people insist that makes it "not a spatial dimension" in the same way that the point we start from is not a spatial dimension.Watch "What's Before and After" for more on this: watch?v=YkGZgxeKSCU Thanks for writing, Rob
@10thdim
@10thdim 13 лет назад
@miesrah12 Yes, that's what I'm trying to show, how it all fits together. But it's important to remember that the definition of "indeterminate" is not really that the point has NO size, it's that any size you care to assign to the point is correct, ranging from the infinitesimally small to the infinitely large. Have you watched "What's Around the Corner?". It's about all this as well. watch?v=1K_MgAfeZkk Thanks for writing! Rob
