They should have done this so long ago. The fact that people still need to worry about SMS/MMS in 2023 just because one company is holding out is insane.
@@BPlank64 Wrong. If you are on iPhone and you have a family member or friend that has android which in my experience people always have something differant not everyone always has the same phone.. This will make it to where videos and pictures aren't garbage.. So no it doesn't only effect android it effects all phones.. No matter what phone you have you should be able to send good pics and vids and other up to date stuff.. Apple said no to rcs for years so people would buy iphones... Now that they pretty much got forced to add rcs ( look it up) android will be on top like they always have been. S24 ultra is better than any iPhone on the market. The wanted multi platform texting to be bad on purpose.
100% Apple will implement something so that you know you are using RCS vs iMessage - either the green box will stay or a new colour, bubble shape etc. They will also make them play better together but still put limitations on RCS in some way.
I tried messaging my iphone using my android via RCS and I found something intriguing... RCS completely using data or wifi eventhough it messages iphone which still didn't support them... Only iphone messaging android still using sms and using cellular credit instead of wifi and data... With that, android absolutely has the upperhand here and can use peer pressure to tell iphone user to buy android instead if they dont like it... I think apple didn't want that to happen, that's why they decided to support RCS...
@@JimboJones99 All Android devices now support RCS, even old devices if they use Google Messages. It's not the Android device, it's Google Messages that supports RCS. With this adoption of RCS into iMessage, even two-factor authentication (2FA) codes may eventually switch from SMS/MMS to RCS allowing encryption of these codes (no more hackers stealing your 2FA codes).
@@AndreasGerhard1 Exactly what I have been telling iPhone users since Google Messages incorporated RCS and almost all major cell phone carriers have adopted Google's Jibe version of RCS as the default RCS messaging service. Google Messages will utilize RCS whether you transmit messages over WiFi or cellular. The only time it will convert to SMS/MMS is if the receiver/sender of messages are using a messaging app that does not support RCS. Google Messages will utilize RCS (if you enable it in the app) no matter which Android device you use, albeit Samsung, Google PIxel, OnePlus, Oppo, Motorola, Vivo, Xiaomi, etc. Apple, however, does not allow third party messaging apps for SMS on their iPhones, so Google Messages app is not available on iOS. You can access Google Messages through the iPhone browser, but that is far from perfect.
As an Apple devotee, I’m happy that they are supporting RSC. I look forward to seeing actual names in iMessages, and not the endless phone numbers that mean nothing to me, even if the message is from a friend with a Samsung phone.
This is better than iMessage on Android. Would love to see open standards adopted so that all Apps can at least at a foundational level all message each other cross services. Enhanced features specific to each app can continue as it does.
Seeing as Google *finally* recently adopted encrypted RCS as default on Android, this makes sense. If encryption wasn’t default, any messages without encryption would still break group chats in iMessage and revert to blue. That is, if they allow RCS and iMessage groups to intermingle anyway.
@@ibc_tarii That's what I suspect would happen if an Android user is in the group chat. This benefit works the other way as well as Android users, like myself, can finally add iPhone users to group chats 😁 My hope is that RCS allows SMS/MMS to be retired.
@@terminusaquo1980 I completely agree. SMS/MMS needs to be retired and two-factor authentication (2FA) codes need to be transmitted in RCS encrypted format as well.
Even if they keep the green bubbles, I don't care. So long as the messaging itself works better. And RCS will allow for huge improvements in communication between Android users and Apple users. I'm an Android user. Most of my friends use Android devices but a couple use iPhones so having those conversations work just as well as the ones with my Android friends will be great
I don’t think it’s going to be as exciting as all this. It’ll still probably be blue vs green, but green will suck less. My understanding is that Apple will support the standard, which doesn’t include end to end encryption. It won’t be supporting any extensions either. So no e2ee until that’s part of the standard. So, still blue/green with green having more functionality (sucking less).
RCS finally showed up in iOS Dev Beta 5 installed on August 6. It's so freaking great! No end-to-end encryption and no in-line replies, but it appears that everything else with messages works for RCS conversations.
I highly doubt they will get rid of the green and blue bubbles because they are perrt... at least now there won't be any low res videos/pictures. All it took was government regulators to start looking at Apple's business practices.
Wish it didn't take a government to force them to make the change... But finally. It's nice to have SMS/MMS as a fallback in low-signal areas, but it'll be great to have it go iMessage>RCS>MMS/SMS and then any group chats with non-iPhone users wont make me want to pull my hair out. Especially with family... Who no matter how many times I tell them NOT to send videos or photos in the family group chat because 2 people are on android.. they still do it and they come out as 100p 3gp files...
The color bubbles should change to be honest. I read a few times that some kids are being bullied for having a green bubble and therefore, being too poor to own an iPhone. This is insane and stupid. Also, if integration is seamless, just like when we could only send sms from different branded phones, it should be similar in this case.
@davidgoodwin3654 Yea it makes no sense why iPhone users trash on samsung and Android so much without really knowing anything about it. My samsung fold 5 cost $1800... but I guarantee you some iPhone user thinks I'm in poverty cause I have a samsung lmao
Yep, it's funny how android users and the tech crowd forget how we got here. US Carriers were charging for incoming and outgoing text messages. As a cost savings to iPhone users Apple created iMessage , iMessage created the green color to let the users know that you were potentially paying for text messages. This didn't have nothing to do with Android, it was about the carriers. Meanwhile when text messages became free. the carriers spent about 5 years slow walking RCS support. Google didn't even support it in the beginning. After pretty much 10 years. mojo come on here and act like it's all Apple's fault we got here. It still prefer to use iMessage since there's no carrier involved and when I travel overseas, pretty much 90% of the people use WhatsApp. So as an iPhone user I really could care less about RCS support, just because Google has decided to use it.
@@rsonic510we have a different cellular network need than Europe or Asia, yours is based on data, ours is cellular. We have two different geographical identities. America won’t be going to third party apps.
@@rsonic510 Who owns WhatsApp? Can Meta deny you access to it if you ran afoul with them on FaceBook? You really want a private corporation to run their own standard?
Is RCS a default Android app? I've heard it's not. People have to actually adopt this on Android before they can see the benefits of communicating with Apple users.
its a settings in android phones just like imessage is a setting that can be turned on or off in the settings. Most phones come with in enabled by default by the carrier
Someone must be creating an alternative app that allows you to use RCS on an iPhone and Apple is getting concerned that they will not be collecting the data that they want from users.
There are going to keep the green bubble it will just make texting between android and iphones much more improved along with group chat experience. That social stigma though amongst the younger generation will still stay!
I hope Apple keeps the green and blue bubbles to differentiate between android and iPhone. I don't want people thinking I have an iPhone. There's too much other phone goodness out there to explore. The pixel 8. The nothing phone 2. OnePlus 12. The foldable Razr. Using an iPhone would be like driving a Corolla 😢 it's fine for most people. Reliable and it works. And it's perfectly great for someone who doesn't care about cars. The iPhone in all the the models it's like driving a Corolla. I want fun and new and interesting. My friends know that. Let's not give them false hope by turning whatever android device I'm rocking at the moment into an iPhone on the other end 😀👍
Well now they have confirmed it’s still a green bubble. It’s far more of a US thing as most people in Europe use a mix of messaging services. It will be interesting to see if people use other messaging services like WhatsApp and telegram less then they currently do, when the experience between android and iOS improves.
I paid $799 for a 13 weeks before the 15 launched but honestly after using an Apple phone for over 10yrs I don’t have people to text & anyone with iMessage already don’t reply back when we did text so now shit is pointless but I’ll still love & support Apple
Apple should have added support for this a long time ago. I don't think it will solve the problem of losing messages when you switch from an Iphone to an android device though. When you switch, it's important to go in to settings on the Iphone, then choose messages and turn off Imessage, then go back to settings, choose facetime and turn that off as well. This will deregister your phone number from Apple's imessage servers. If you forget to do this and have already switched to an android device, you can deregister the phone number from Apple's web site. Even after doing this, it still might take a little time for other Iphones to realize that a phone number is no longer registered with Imessage. I think Apple should release an update so the phone checks the Imessage server every time a message is sent, that would solve that problem.
I’ve just given up on Apple when it comes to messaging Android users. My friends and family have just adopted using WhatsApp. Much more powerful and easier to use. Full res photos/videos as well as full length videos.
Share this message , Since Apple made a feature free to google messaging, why can’t google make Picture in Picture mode free to all users without paying a premium subscription!
Green color should stay. People need to know that not everyone is an iZombie. Also this is US only problem. The rest of the world uses superior cross-platform messaging apps.
you already know in the apple typical fashion way they are going to try adding rcs but they are going to do something to still make it seem like iPhone is superior
If Apple does adopt RCS messaging does that mean i will be able to have an android phone and message my daughters WiFi iPad? Will i be able to message her using her iCloud account like i can when i use a iPhone?
Nice video but your title was a bit disingenuine. It's more like: "Apple finally caves to adopt RCS making iMessage safer to use". I don't know why everyone puts the blame on Android when it's actually Apple who's the holdout, the one insisting on using old SMS technology, it's a bit frustrating.
most people i know who use android i just wont text them, we always use like fb messenger or discord to communicate better sms is just so bad, but i cant always get around it like texting a employee who is not on like friends basis, dont have discord or a fb to text with lol and i dont know anyone using those other texting apps like whatsapp i keep hearing about
I don’t see how RCS benefits iPhone users. I don’t understand why Apple is spending resources to implement a new feature, which only benefits people who aren’t their customers.
But it does benefit iPhone users? We no longer have to worry about having service to send messages, bad image or video quality, can see typing indicators and read receipts, etc. that helps us just as much as it helps them
@@macrumors , RCS doesn’t have the security that iMessage provides. So, it will still be important to know if a non-iMessage user is in your group chats.
I received a message from an American friend once - I blocked that message. It was weird having someone message me with a sms, I thought it was a scam. But I'm in the EU, the messenger is for 2FA, everything else that is coming in there is spam and gets deleted & blocked.
And this is what happens when you have a CEO with zero balls. (Excuse my language). How are you going to let everyone tell you what to do and be a CEO. Clearly Tim wasn’t meant for the job, and when Steve named him he made a huge mistake.
They should just connect it to jibe. They coukd roll it out in a week. No apple wants to be difficult lol. Jibe is end to end encryption even in group chats. Call it a day
Yeah it will be a different color or will have some shade... I think they are doing this because of all the new apps or nothing phone adding imessage via Android is becoming the norm slowly
Yeah, I. Am excited because I am an iPhone and Android user. I have both. So I'm happy that I have all these features on my iPhone as well and Peck. They maybe don't change the bubbles, but with Google messaging. Oh, you can change the color of an any. Rcs chat I'm running D iPhone 18 Beta. Great. Now trying it out. And it's maybe still green bubbles, but because of rcs messaging my Google messaging sing syncs it and R. G. S Messaging app, so it's secure it. Also, let me change the the background and the color and now I have blue bubbles. And my iphone only has green bubbles on my phone
Something is wrong with these Apple people. The way they talked about messed up group messages or poor quality pics sounds like it's androids fault when it's clearly Apple. Us android uses don't care bc our messages, group messages comes out fine. Also we can change the color of our bubble to what we like. Americans are weird with text color.
Is that a question? If so, no this has nothing to do with video calls. Apple won’t open FaceTime. But iPhone users can invite Android and pc users to a FaceTime chat via link
Having rich conversations and getting rid of missed group chat thing is big and as a long-time Apple ecosystem user, this is good news. Some may know that the group chat missing texts and cutting some people out of group chats is more to do with the carriers. Carriers set their own limits when it comes to groups of SMS users, especially between carriers. I think Verizon and T-Mobile have a limit of 20 and AT&T has a limit of 10. Hopefully RCS maintains parity in functionality with iMessage... and vice versa.
No need for an iphone anymore. Android phones provide a large range of options....foldable, flip, better camera, pen support, fast charging, reverse charging, etc. The biggest thing for iMessage is the sending poor quality photographs & videos, breaking group chats. If thats not a thing anymore why get ripped off for a subpar iphone and i have a 15pro max and S23 Ultra.
Who cares, thats super shallow if you care that much about a color of a text. As long as the whole texting experience and features are better, that's all that matters.
Could this be a way to hit back at other messaging services like WhatsApp or Telegram by encouraging more use of the default messaging apps on peoples’ respective choice in phones? This wouldn’t have a huge effect on the rest of the world, but it could prevent more of a foothold of these other services in the US. Why so many people in Europe and elsewhere are so in love with a service owned and controlled by a shady company like Facebook (Meta) is completely beyond me.
Apple makes a good phone, but the company has a bad business practices... Samsung makes a good android phone that can multi task... all depends on what you need and want. The majority of android phone's are no good, but buy a flagship Samsung, and you can screen mirror Netflix for the kids while watching/listening to a podcast RU-vid while surfing the web all from one device! For me these functions are used every day but for most people they are ok with just a phone. I also wouldn't be able to go back to something without waterproofing or 10x optical zoom. The list goes on and on and typically the only complaints are from other Apple user's complaining about poor multimedia sharing or no imessage bubbles but that is all Apple programming to make people not like android and it really works! It's all in your ecosystem and what you need/wan, but there is no argument about what device can multitask better! IMO
One important correction: RCS (the S is for suite, not services) was not designed and defined by Google. It is a standard the GSMA are designing developing and promoting for years. That is, it is a suite of services to be implemented by the MNOs, like SMS, MMS, and Voice Mail. it is NOT a Google service. This is very exciting. Even after all these years. Promoting RCS had bean one of the major projects of my career (2011-2015 as part of Comverse). Can’t imagine how exciting these news would have been for me 10 ago…
