Eliasson in the 2nd wouldnt be a problem.....if the Sens had a top 5 prospect pool. When your prospect pool is 31st, pick players that have more than a 10% chance to play games for god sakes By the time he plays his first game, Sanderson will be done this 8 year contract

It feels like our scouting staff are on repeat, and that we are wasting high picks over and over on projected bottom 6 and bottom 9 players.

I posted this rant on another video, and I’m gonna copy and paste it here: I don’t dislike any of today’s picks on their own, but when you look at them as a collective, I’m a little underwhelmed. We added two more big LD, and THREE more big LW. We’ve already got lots of that. Not a lot of variety in todays picks. Feels like the scouting staff has the same strategy it had under Dorion - draft physically large guys that shoot left, and pay no attention at all to any other attributes. I think capfriendly is still up until the first. Go look at how many left shot wingers and D we have, and compare them to how many right shot wingers and D we have. Then look up out draft history over the last couple years (the unsigned prospects not yet on capfriendly). And the disparity in the second group is even larger. D men drafted in the last three years 2022 LD Nordberg 2022 LD Hamara 2022 LD Donovan 2022 LD Wallberg 2023 RD Stanley 2023 LD Andonovski 2024 RD Yakemchuk 2024 LD Eliasson 2024 LD Wallenius 7 LD, 2 RD. And that’s just the guys who have not yet signed ELCs. Our NHL guys are just as bad, our AHL guys slightly better. I’m not gonna type out all the names for the wingers, but it’s the same thing. I’m just concerned this club has a very lopsided prospect pool, as it keeps drafting the same two guys over and over, especially in the later rounds. I get going for BPA, but that becomes less relevant in the later rounds. You should also consider the importance of having different types of weapons in your arsenal. Plus it effects playing time when you have 100 LW power forwards, and not enough RW to balance the lines. Then you’re constantly forcing guys to play on their off side. Some guys like that. But others don’t. You can’t expect all these guys to adapt their game to the opposite wing. When’s the last time we took a swing on a fast, skilled player? We’re gonna be the slowest team in the league if all we draft are big grunts. We need to have some variety in our prospect pool. Just my 2 cents
@jonthethrasher3470
@jonthethrasher3470 3 месяца назад
Well put. We are drafting players as if they are ready to make their debuts next season filling immediate needs. By the time they are ready, our roster will lost likely look very different. Another concern Norris’ health. We need someone to take his spot if he gets injured again, and we are apparently not drafting high ceiling centers.
@DizzyDez613
@DizzyDez613 3 месяца назад
@@jonthethrasher3470 Agree. And we also don’t seem to be thinking about Giroux’s replacement. The guy is what, 36? 37? I understand there’s always a chance for trades and free agents. But that’s never a guaranteed thing.

I really hope Andlauer and Staios look at our scouting staff and clean house... We cant keep the same strategy we had with Dorion. Im all for being big and hard to play against but you also need to look for actual hockey talent.

I don’t know.. I watched his highlight pack on Silver Sens and I love the pick. The dude hits like a freight train. Awesome. So sick of teams cycling the shit out of us. We need some D that puts the fear in teams. The saddest day of my Sens life..other than Alfie leaving… was Chara leaving. I have faith.

Forget what you say, I'm unsure the Sens did enough. Period. Sens had a chance to "unload" for more prospects considering those 'hefty' contracts.

Love this and the descriptions, it will be fun to follow their development however, always remember that very few 4th rounders ever play 100 games in the NHL, I believe it's around 10% of those selected each year = 3.2 players per year, depending on who you are reading so for any of them to have any serious effect other than in a trade is slim. Still fun to watch and fingers crossed that they found a rare gem.

Ottawa has been drafting for size for a couple of years. The new regime drafted in a similar fashion. The honeymoon is over for Staios,Poulin and Boyd. They need more skill and hockey sense.

Love your coverage lads! I have to say I’m really not onboard with our first two picks. If we’d traded and chosen them and 12 and 50ish I’d be fine with it. But not at 7 and 39. Hopefully i’ll be proven wrong!

If you watch the interviews with the scouts at the draft, all those guys have been here for years, they are the old regime lol. I wanted Henry Mews with our 2nd, right shot puck moving dman from the 67's but here we are. Wild thing is all the other picks after I think were great.

Eliasson is going to an excellent hockey program in U of Michigan. His potential is to be another Trouba, who is 6 ft 7 and might grow even more. Hope that he takes all of his opportunities to reach his potential.

i think you boys need to have Eliasson in person and have a WWE style throwdown to show your viewers what kind of physical tools he brings. I like the gamble - you can't teach size or athleticism. But taller prospects often take more time to put all the pieces together and the results can be pretty spectacular if they do. With his attitude, he probably takes your criticism in stride. He needs to wear #3 just in case he brings Ottawa all the tools we let slip out the door

OUR DRAFT THEME Well the draft is over and it was a pretty impressive environment at "The Sphere" in Las Vegas. It's safe to say that Steve Staios "reaped what he sowed" in this draft as Sens scouts did their due diligence in researching these prospects... So based on the above information our theme is.... DON'T SPHERE THE REAPER!!! Blue Oyster Cult fans will completely understand....

Not impressed with our draft. I love Yakemchuk but they could have traded down and added a pick and still have gotten him five spots later. Eliasson was a reach in the 2nd and is too much of a project for that high of a pick and again they could have traded down and added another pick and still have gotten him. The other players are intriguing but the chances of making an impact in the NHL when you are a 4th rounder are pretty slim. The Senators need to draft and develop Goalies and they didn't even draft one. Ottawa does NOT know how to draft or how to work the draft board...they just don't. Cheers from Ottawa🍁
@pa-mo
@pa-mo 3 месяца назад
From what Staios said, I think they tried to trade down, but no one was willing to give enough to trade up, so there was no deal to be made. There was basically no trades done at all in the first round. The draft is a bit of a hope and see who becomes good after the first 2-3 picks this year. Let's see what Staios's first season opening roster looks like. Ultimately no one knows if any of these guys will develop into regular NHL players, so we'll see in time if the picks were good or not over time. We can guess the D's that were available at 7 will all be regular players, but no one knows who will develop into the better player, better teammate, harder worker, less injury-prone, able to learn, etc. To me, it sounds like Yakenchuk is a harder worker than the others, on top of being bigger and grittier, which is what we need, so I'm ok with it. Now let's see how they all develop.

Me too.. kept seeing everyone loving Parehk and I just didn’t like it. I’ve seen those small D before.. I like the Yak move. We needed a RD and I feel like there was a move to make worth making Staois would have done it. I’m willing to give him some time. Hopefully he can fill some holes in UFA and through a trade or two.
