Canada relies on immigration for economic development and growth. Recent immigrants in Canada are generally healthier than the Canadian-born population, a phenomenon known as the Healthy Immigrant Effect. However, the health advantage of immigrants diminishes over time, with studies showing that after 10 years in Canada, immigrants have similar or poorer health than the Canadian born population. Ensuring the long-term health and well-being of immigrants is crucial for Canada's health system and economic development. This panel aims to explore factors impacting immigrant health and to identify opportunities for collective action to improve long-term health outcomes.
