I guess it has been a few years back when ICE raided a few meat packing places in Tennessee and arrested the illegals who were caught to deport back to their country. The owners of those places were mad saying they can't get people to work in the meat packing places, well they put ads out asking for workers, and guess what? Well it seems that everybody in the United States except the Native Americans came to this country to have a better future for them selfs and their families regardless of many generations back or now. I am a Mexican and I work in the tourist industry in Florida my average salary is between 20 and 27 dollars an hour. no part time I have 40 to 50 hours a week the fun part is we start 4 AM .,sometimes my shoulders ,my back , and knees and fingers hurts me so bad. I stretch and put some ice every days , I move around 20 to 30 thousand pounds every days with my body ,we don't use equipment , I'm dirty in the nice weather in Florida. all the Employees are from Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Haiti., Americans know how much money we make and they prefer to answer the phone in customer service for $8.50 an hour Americans are lazy no question about it (not all of course )

We don't owe the Alabama farmers anything. They don't get to break the laws while others don't. At least that's the way it's supposed to be in a country of laws like the United States is supposed to be. He's responsible for getting his crops harvested and if he can't get them harvested at what he wants to pay locals, he'll have to pay more or have his crop rot in the field. If he doesn't have a viable business model to produce sweet potatoes, then maybe he has to have them harvested with a harvesting machine that will put ugly bruises on them or he might have to abandon sweet potato cultivation on his farm in Alabama. We don’t owe this farmer anything like a right to grow sweet potatoes and the right to have a living wage doing it. This is what the free market is supposed to be like. You provide a service or product to your fellow man if you can make a profit doing it. If you can’t make a profit, you raise your prices, if you can. If the market place is unwilling to pay a higher price for your product, you go out of business and might have to sell your last crop at a loss to cut your losses. Other manufacturers that aren’t farmers have to live by these rules and so should farmers.

Probably the same reason people in the east coast pay less than 3 dollars an hour to waiters bartenders, they include tips with the wages to make up the difference, no one I know in the west would work that way, tips are gifts and subject to tax but NOT included with the wages,do they add money to your check from the business itself when there's no tips? Farmers follow different rules because it is a short seasonal job sometimes 2 weeks to harvest maybe 3,and move on to the next crop or field,for the permanent workers very few, they have perks and obligations too
