Here in Sweden we got a complex relationship to our history and espessially the Viking part of our history. The irony of it all is that other countries that at the time were the victims of the vikings usually celebrate the vikings more than us scandinavians. Over here anything viking related is kind of seen upon in the same way you would see the dixie flag in the states. Sure for some rightwing ppl its strong symbols but for the general public its more seen as a expression of right wing nationalism.. personally i think this is sad because our history is our history and whether we like it or not our history have shaped our culture. After the tv show Vikings it has become a bit more acceptable with viking themes but history and especially that about vikings is still quite controversial here. Also when it comes to the norwegian viking themed black metal it comes from a kind of strange version of satanism that is kind of typical to Norweig. The general idea of it is that they never really forgiven christianity for conqering norweig so everything christian is seen as a sign of oppression.. They see satan as the good force that stands for freedom and they see christianity as the true evil that tries to enslave the world.. In that context everything pre christian is also considered good and christianity is considered something evil that tries to manipulate ppl into beliving its good.. That resulted in all the churchburnings and all that in norweig.. Some of those bands also has ties to rightwing extrimists.. Its ironic because Norweig is the most christian country of the scandinavian countries but its also the country with the extremest hate for christianity... The sad thing is that there are not that many moderate bands that celebrate our history and those who do (like Sabaton) gets alot of heat because media often get them confused with the nationalists who usuallyare the one to celebrate our history.. So sadly our history is more accepted outside scandinavia. (I appologize for my bad english, its not my first language)

awesome reaction first ever immortal cd I heard and first ever black metal cd I heard when I was 2 years old because of my dad had sons of northern darkness back in 2002 on cd so I have been a huge fan of immortal and black metal for 22 years now and I have been listening to immortal for 22 years now still listening to immortal at 21 years old 22 years later still in 2022 no joke or lie not making it up either great album my favourite immortal album of all time next to diabolical fullmoon mysticism pure Holocaust battles in the north blizzard beasts at the heart of winter damned in black and of course sons of northern darkness

Christianity, Islam and Communism differ greatly from other conquerors. The three mentioned ideologies goal for conquering was/is to convert and turn the rest of world onto their ideology. Yes others also put down the rule where they conquered and had certain mandatory celebrations and duties within their realm. This is necessary to have cohesive nation/kingdom etc. But on the whole people where not forced to change their religions or cultures like they are under those three. In rome they even invited others to contribute their phanteon with their own Gods. The reason why Christians were eventually singled out and prosecuted in Rome was not because of their religion but because they created chaos in the society by turning classes against each others and the state. It startet when the Christians started making what could be called unions at that time within rome and tried to turn the people against the goverment. Sounds familiar??? Russia before the bolsheviks revolution maybe??? And after thousand year it took Christianity and the inner turmoil they had created not even a hundred years to bring it all down! Another funny thing is that it is the same tribe that created Christianity, Islam and Communism even tough this tribe dont live by any of these ideologies themselves

I still stand by this being the most overrated Immortal album, by quite a bit. But I can't deny that this is an amazing song.

Immortal are probably the only "mythical" Black Metal band I've never liked. Their music is pretty cool, but they're mostly... clowns. I can't like a band I don't respect.
