Immortal call VS Steel skin??? - Guard Skills Miniguide 

these short little videos explaining small yet important facets of the game are fantastic, i have played for years and yet i still learn, or get reminded of things i had forgotten. Keep them coming Ziz :D

Quick TL;DR: Steelskin: Requires a lot of strength to be used (155+). Great for characters with lots of mitigation (Dodge, Block, Evasion) that lack in health. Blocks against all types of damage. Molten Shell: Requires a good amount of Armor to scale (~4000, or a Granite Flask). Vaal version is weaker, but lasts longer. Stacks with Necromancer's Bone Armor. Immortal Call: Benefits from endurance charges, but that's optional. Effective against DotS. Differently from Steelskin, it's great in characters with large Health/Energy Shield, but little mitigation. Arcane Cloak: Scales with mana, lots of it. Works great with the notable Dynamo, which increases guard skills durations, mana amounts, and mana regen. Useful for Archmage type characters.

Would love to see more skill type breakdowns like this. Movement skills for example. Common links for them would be even better.

My favorite is steel skin linked to second wind and empower support. All placed into a magma eclipsis for the plus 2 to level of socketed gems. This makes for an easy level 27 steel skin for a 4K shield and potential for a level 32 gem granting a 5.4k shield.

But I use SPACEBAR to move my character. My finger is fucked from too much PC, so spacebar it is when gaming. :D

Do a video about defensive auras like flesh and stone/ arctic armour etc.

Do Guard skills mitigate the first hit as well, or just procc on the first hit and mitigate afterwards?

Useful vid. A comment for console players - can’t put the skill on the mouse click as on pc, so you find you have to develop a habit of clicking your guard skill, or do as I usually do which is link to a low level CWDT

Very good guides! Could you do a guide on how to identify items with a good base? - what is a base / good base? - when is a base good (>1200 armour/ evasion etc.?) Stuff like this?

Vaal Molten Shell + Increased Duration Support will last like 16 seconds. You can finish an entire fight in that time, without ever losing your guard skill. And since it's usually quick spikes of burst damage that kills you, rather than repeated hits over time, not having those moments where your guard skill is down can be very nice. And even if your granite flask doesn't last nearly that long, the buff still keeps the big chunk of extra life :) Plus, bonus fun fact: it has pretty much zero soul gain prevention. So during 16 seconds of combat, you're pretty much guaranteed to fully recharge the skill.

Does immortal call protect you from initial hit when combine with lvl 1 CWDT ? i mean attack that proc immortal call not after that. thx for the all videos you have made. as always trying to die less than you do ^^

tyyyyyyyyyyyy its actualy a more niche thing that i try to incorporate into my builds but its a lil odd. esp since generaly i use other things on left mouse button and it seems that 100% uptime is a bit wonky so it always feels inconsistent, more of a "if i get hit and luckily dont die then there will save me and prevent me from dieing till i heal up" but i love it. even just low level immortal call on cwdt so it happens that way while i have the fun dodge/evad scaling idk lel. but yeah, leftclick ones would be interesting when ur build can handle the big str reqs :P CHEERS

CWDT + IC paired with Enduring Composure is a solid setup, especially on block or dodge builds

I use steel skin on move and immortal call on Cwdt. Great combo that covers you one the move AND if the get caught standing still

Neah, i just use a lvl 1 CWDT linked with Portal. I'm almost unkillable :P

Can u tell me why my steel skin and cwdt isn’t procing the gems are in lv both lv 2 and linked but when take damage it doesn’t work at all

Esp for this league it's generally worth grabbing Shout CD nodes for perma Enduring Cry on 5 Endurance charges. CWDT Immortal Call is up for ~6s at 106% Less taken, plenty of time to get back 5 charges with improved shouts. The two effects often overlap during Ultimatums and just makes physical damage taken a joke.

Arcane cloak goes up to 79-80% of mana, adding up to 14-15% of buff as damage, with 9k mana it goes up to 7k shield and 1k added lightning damage. Musthave skill on MoM/Agnostic builds.

@Zizeran You should do a video going over every active skill and why they are good or bad, as well as staple supports for each skill type. I find it hard to find precise info on why Arc is better than CrackLance, for example. Mostly streamers just toss a comment about it as if it's a known fact and leave it at that. Just subbed a couple days ago. Found you recently and am in the process of draining every bit of info I can. Great channel man, keep it up! PS: love the Sunday Roasts :D

For me: steel skin for chars, that dont have mana, armour or source of charges generation; molten shell for armor builds; immortal call for builds with high amout of charges and generation of them (there is a node on some small cluster jewels that give u charges after being hit, so kinda useful in some other ways); and arcane cloak for mom, agnostic, archmage or other manastacker builds. Personally i love steel skin selfcast for universal use, but for cwdt and not selfcast i prefer put small cluster jewel(node enduring compose) with immortal call + increased duration + enfeeble, with at least 4 charges u get 85% phys reduction at 1 lvl cwdt for 2-2,5 seconds

One very important thing to considerate here, if you are a necro, is that bone armor share the cooldown with other guards skills EXCEPT vaal molthen shell. So you can have vaal molthen shell & bone armor active at the same time for a huge damage reduction, or alternate between them, so you have always one guard skill active, wich is also great. EDIT: As i continue to watch your video you said that xD that happens for comenting before watching the whole video....

I run Steelskin and kind of like it. I started wondering if I should try to add back CWDT+IC, but then you said they share cooldown so that won't work out.

I don't think I've used Immortal Call, since it was nerfed to oblivion. Steelskin is the new standard. Frost Shield isn't a guard skill, but it should be mentioned as it stacks an additional defensive layer as long as you have the ES to fuel it.

Any idea if I can use Vaal Molten Shell manually while having Immortal Call on CWDT? Can both be active?

I map my steel skin to the left click so I don't forget to include in my rotation, still clueless how to include warcries into the rotation tho

Just one thing Zizaran. A person told me about cast when damage taken for steelskin and the says it doesn't work. I tried it, and the support doesn't work.

Does having Minimum Endurance charges work with immortal call? So if you have 2 Minimum and get hit you always have 2 Charges but get the buff to immortal call?

How would you balance having a mb1 guard skill and a CWDT setup? As afaik one guard will overwrite the other. Are there go to pairings that make sense?

For a new player what's more forgiving. I'm using general cry serker with cwdt molten shell. Is immortal call better at gear progression that molten shell? Also my normal armor is at 12k

Immortal call + Enduring Composure (Small armour cluster jewel - Gain 1 Endurance Charge every second if you've been Hit Recently) is hands down the best guard skill combination.

But i play on console so no auto cast:(

why the guides usually tell you to level up CWDT and Immortal Call (or others) to level 5-10ish, instead of leveling to the maximum your stats allow?

Its also worth to mention that you can make some busted links with your guard skills and jewels, f.e. you can use enduring composure small with the front liner small and sw-id-enh-anomalous ic, which might result even with like 1,5 cd on ic making you basically unkillable

Forgot to mention about each one's interaction with Cast When Damage Taken Support. Most noobs will always just level all gems as high as they can, but that's not always better.

sadly defensive flasks, immunities, guard skills and dynamo all have been castrated in scurge still useful .. but way less powerful
