Immortal Technique: Beef Won't Get You Far in Hip-Hop

www.vladtv.com/ - The famed rapper/activist explains why he thinks rappers who start beef to get famous won't get far in their career, because the subject grows tired with listeners. However, Immortal Technique believes that someone like 50 Cent is the exception, because he has a "big machine" like Interscope backing him the whole way.

Tech is like a smart, successful general from a forgotten war that ended 10-15 years ago. The political hip hop never caught on in the mainstream because it's alienating and doesn't resonate among the casual hip hop/pop fanbase. His music is strictly underground-flavor, which is great for guys like me who like hardcore hip hop but limiting to his reach. Most kids today don't even care about what was popping 4-5 years ago. Odd Future is so 2011. Every few years, new faces emerge like now it's Kendrick and Logic. OT Genasis had the biggest hit last year. Hip hop has been dead for many years now. It's a dead genre, taken over by mainstream pop/casual rap.

Bullshit. You assume that the majority of heads are into lame, non-lyrical shit. If you listen, really listen to people like Logic, you would understand that they actually honour the golden era when rap was lyrical. They pay a lot of respect to it. boom bap is coming back. Wack shit will never be timeless

i like immortal technique. The only thing I disagree with people on is this whole concept of race. race is a idea invented during european colonization, until then your only identity is what tribe you belonged to. Irish people weren't white they where irish. Egyptians weren't black they where egyptian. Race is an idea, and ideas aren't real unless if everybody democratically decide its real.
@billfill4807
@billfill4807 9 лет назад
***** in america irish people originally weren't considered white, neither where itilian people.
@billfill4807
@billfill4807 9 лет назад
***** i always thought it was a caste thing of sort... but to be honest i posted what i said long enough ago where i don't really remember what i was thinking exactly. it was just during a phase where i was really tired of how people and friends where treating me because i was white as far as i could tell ... all i think i was trying to comment on is that where taught to think on certain lines but we really don't have too.
@TheJofrica
@TheJofrica 8 лет назад
+bill fill That might be true but you will have a hard time arriving at any type of practical discussion with that vague of a definition. In order to talk to people, you have to at least be able to adapt to (and recognize) the own definitions and constructs they hold for themselves. Otherwise you won't be able to communicate effectively with anyone; you won't be able to build or get anywhere with people who think like that

You still can find alot of black Egyptians living in Egypt today. Most of today's Egyptians are mostly imposters. Muslims were the last and final group of people to conquer Egypt and are a result of black and white mixture. But Egypt has always been majority black until now. Just read up on the greek Herodotus who described Egyptians as being very black.

50 cent explained this, he said you have to crush your challengers career before they get to powerful and then they can fuck with you. Basically you kill there career before they have enough power to challenge you. He also had to do this because beef is apart of the culture and if he didnt, people would say that he thinks hes above it.

Eminem - Mosh received plenty of airplay and definitely was a political record, released just before the 2004 elections. It it sad to see it's been so long since such songs have been released.
@cabalofdemons
@cabalofdemons 10 лет назад
Because this generation is complacent. These kids born post 1980 really don't give a damn about social/political issues until it smacks them dead in the face. It took the murder of Trayvon Martin for people to address racism and even police brutality. The real issue is if we can keep this thing going for the next decade. That said, look at the music being pushed. If a song like "Lifestyle" by Rich Homie Quan is a hit, then folks will emulate it. I swear, it's the dumbest rap song I've heard in years, but folks want to hear it. That's the sad part. People complain about the lack of substance in music, but when a thought provoking record is released no one wants to listen to it. However, people will download dumb songs all day.
@HoofHearted88
@HoofHearted88 10 лет назад
cabalofdemons I am born post 1980 myself and growing up I have seen many of the kids you are describing. It is a shame, creativity in lyrics is overshadowed by creativity in beats. That is why I think it pretty ironic that Eminem made a song (featuring among other Dr Dre, 50 cent and Jay-Z) called Syllables.. complaining about people who listen to beats over lyrics nowadays. Look at the popularity of Rick Ross. His lyrics suck, but he supposedly has cool beats. It is being pushed on to us and that is why I don't listen to the radio anymore to be honest. The richest corporations push their nonsense from the top down whereas I feel music should be made bottom-up. It has to be made by people who then inspire a larger audience after which the radio picks it up. But that's what dead prez have talked about on their records too... It is sad to see good music has become really difficult to find on the radio, but on the other hand the internet has made it so much more available as well.
@cabalofdemons
@cabalofdemons 10 лет назад
roblinssen88 Exactly. Good music is there, but you gotta find it. Ross has good beats, but lyrically it's silly. Still, folks want to hear the stuff and it sells.
