Luke, love your vids but sometimes the editing in terms of audio is really botched. This is one of those videos. The background music, especially in the beginning, is WAY too loud. It's hard to differentiate your voice from it. The choice of also having Hawaiian music with beats just naturally distracts the listener from the main point: your voice. I had to either 1.5x this or I had to just not watch it, so I chose the former, but please just find a tune that isn't so distracting (not to mention its quieter) and stick with it.
Never had any issues hearing a word. Nor understanding him. You’re nitpicking just to be a dick. This isn’t an issue large enough to warrant your words. You’re letting personal preference attempt to dictate someone else’s work
Back when I bought this game it was just a "eh ill check it out" after 100% and binging it with no sleep and beat the game a few times now, gotta say it's one of my favs. I hope to see another. Beautiful game design
Just started this three days ago. 10 hours in... polished and fun come to mind. Came here to see what you had to say about this after watching you talk about England in Valhalla, in your vid that premiered today. Felt you would feel differently about the brand new Fenyx Rising over here. Cheers!
This game is undoubtedly what Ubisoft Quebec wanted to make when they were stuck making an Assassin's Creed game instead. Hopefully, this newborn freedom ensures that a little more care goes into this one.
This game is a living proof that "Assassin's creed" hurt "Odyssey" not the other way around. we could've gotten a badass fantasy greek mythology rpg. But because of "AC" branding it had to be an awkward mess of historical adventure and sci-fi fantasy.
Almost all traces of the original AC formula seem to be gone or on the way out now. I wish Ubisoft would let AC be AC and just make other games (like this) to explore other ideas. But then, why would they? They are too cowardly to try anything.
Super refreshing to see someone come out and give an honest take on a game in an industry where your only allowed to like CDPR and sony exclusives. Love your content.
@@KaptainKerl It's not even a 1:1 copy lmao, it's magnitudes more combat oriented than botw. You guys only mention botw bc of the climbing and colorful world
@@KaptainKerl i kno im a year late to this conversation but botws formula was shown to be extremely successful. it isn't a 1:1 copy but takes heavy inspiration, which is a good thing. There will be many other games copying botw's formula, and calling immortals fenyx rising a 1:1 copy isn't really accurate, at it focuses much more on combat and abilites.
Why does the Fenix always look like a female even with a beard? Not criticizing or being transphobe just curious if the face is the same for all customization options
I continue to really appreciate and be blown away by your content. There's just not much of this anymore. Well thought out, expertly explained and rationalized and not just full of stupid memes and yelling for no reason. It's wonderful that someone thinks enough of their audience to make content for us that doesn't treat us like we're all idiots and dullards. Especially since TB passed there was just massive hole in the space of someone who makes content like this. It's really appreciated Luke, thank you.
u should really finish the story in ghost of tsushima. the game takes way longer to open up than it should but once it does, it's amazing. also the new legends mode is insane and completely free
@@okok-go9kg it's just a suggestion, bro. i think he's missing out on a truly enjoyable experience. if he finished the story and still wasn't feeling it, i wouldn't have anything to say. ur being weirdly defensive considering my SINGLE comment was harmless and had nothing to do with you
@@ShadowFlame420 It usually doesn't take long to realize a game isn't for you. Didn't take me long with Bloodborne, or Shadow of Mordor, or Final Fantasy 15. Just a couple hours is enough, and clearly he figured it out quickly enough to make a judgement call.
@@ShadowFlame420 That's great for you. For others, myself included, it's just not worth the time investment. If a game can't hook me in the first hour or two I'm dropping it. I'd rather watch a play through or just ignore the game entirely than waste my time.
Ehh. It looks pretty generic. And I dont think you can really say that it wont become pretty repetitive as it goes on. I dont thinkbthey cab really sustain having such a large variety of puzzles before the mechanics start repeating themselves. It looks fun and colourful, sure, but I'd not think it can live upto what you say
reminds me so much of Kingdom of Amalur which I didn't play but when Luke here says it's fresh and different... well, yeah, from other Ubisoft games. Overall, it's clearly more of the same both in graphics and mechanics.
I love the fact that my weapons don't break after 3 hits! :P . I just bought this off Steam, Winter Sale, but I gotta say, it's a gem so far. It's obviously a Zelda clone, but it does have something Zelda doesnt have, which is good humor. Not over the top, but it's a fun experience. Bought it on PC, that's maybe not the best option due to controls, might set it up different, since some things like using ALT are a bit annoying.
I think you're forgetting about Child of Light. That game isn't ten years old and even though it didn't come from a bigger part of Ubisoft. It's one of the best games Ubisoft has ever been involved in. This game looks interesting too though.
I just finished watching your 5hour critique of the last of us two and I'm really beginning to see gaming in a different light, and realizing how much we are influenced by others to such a degree that we may not see truly works of art for what they are because they are judged harshly by the majority before we get a chance to embark on our own experience, I for one really like the art style in this game, ps thanks for extending my attention span and keep up the awesome content
I love the fact that you have a far more positive outlook on games than most jaded journalists & RU-vidrs today, please don't apologize for a refreshing attitude towards a wonderful hobby so many of us love my friend!
To be honest I am not a big fan of all the vaults. They get pretty repetitive and annoying. They are not so much puzzle but platforming challenges with mostly timing 🤷♀️ I’ll take on a hoard of cyclops anytime than falling to my death for the millionth time in one of those vaults 😑 It actually made me drop the game for a while if the vault wasn’t optional but part of the main story. Loved the above ground world though, and the banter between Zeus and Prometheus is really entertaining ☺️
Love your videos Luke. On point as always. Not sure if I speak for most of your fans or not, but personally I could do without the music. Your points are captivating enough and it felt a bit distracting
Wouldn't be surprised. It's definitely not just coincidence how he went from being hypercritical of Ubisoft's older games to praising their newest titles. People can change their opinions over time though 🤷🏾♂️
Hey Luke, what's your opinion on Mafia: Definitive Edition? I didn't play the original, but I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. The storytelling felt like I was inside a movie. In my opinion, one of the best linear games of the year!
I was searching for a fun game since and after I finished and absolutely loved odyssey. But couldn’t play breath of the wild only having a ps4 And after subscribing to your channel I looked for and hoped for a suggestion for that next game to get excited about. Well today I found it. And I wanted to give you a huge thank you because you haven’t led me wrong yet. I like the same game style as you and look forward to buying this and downloading it tonight. Immediately after I get home from work. Thanks for the excellent review. Keep up the good work. Glad to know their are others out there who feel the same way I do about gaming who can articulate it so well as yourself. Blessings!
So much RU-vid hate again in these comments... It is nice to see a RU-vidr not being a hater like you mentioned, I love that >> Subscribed. Btw I agree with you on Ghost of Tsushima.
This game does genuinely looks great from what I've seen of various previews of people who played and it and gameplay videos I've seen. But man, it's unveiling in the first trailer they showed with the pop music gave a baffling first impression!
9:20 - 9:30 sorry but they already know that it will work since Zelda did it first.... you cant give ubisoft the credit for "Tyring something new" when Zelda paved the way for them! They are just trying to improve on what was already succesful nothing wrong with that even appreciate it since zelda has some things i wish i could change.
While I get that it seems like that, thats really an oversimplification. Just because a game is open world with a lighter tone does not mean its a Zelda clone.
@@peterdelisle7083 oh come on!^^ they copied everything! even the freaking magnesis!^^ and yeah they improved on it! can smack foes with rocks that you caught from them! But not even genshin is that blatant!! if someone discribed the mechanics of the game to you ,you could not establish if it is zelda or phoenix.... "not gonna write it with an stupid F... you dont write Zelda with an S..."
I started playing AC Odyssey some time ago and I'm now about 50h in. One of the biggest problems of this game is asset reusing. There just isn't enough content in the game to avoid that the locations and people become monotonous and unrecognisable. I really hope Ubisoft scales back their ambition and makes a smaller better open world this time. They just have to accept that they don't have the manpower and time to make worlds of a scope that Rockstar can. AC Odyssey came out in 2018, so they project probably only got 2 years of full scale development. That doesn't make me very hopeful.
Your view on ghosts is exactly how I feel with red dead 2. Everyone loves it but I didn’t enjoy a minute of it. But I knew it was a good game but it just didn’t click with me.
As long as it's not full of "time saver" micro-transactions, copy/paste side quests and tailing missions I could give the game a chance. But "Best Ubisoft Game of The Decade" is a bit of a stretch
Given its pre order scans and variations it seems to be. And given the absolute grind of the game from the demos shown it most likely will be too. Watch Fihzys hypothesis on it.
When are you going to review Ghosts of Tsushima?? I loved your vid essays on odyssey, which convinced me to play it, and I eneded up loving that game, got SO hooked and ran completionist (almost lol) on odyssey, def more than 100hrs. After that, Ghosts was AMAZING. Really want to watch your critique on it! Till then take care.
I actually find this game more "fun" than BOTW, I'd even go as far and say that I think it's a better game. No breakable weapons, no crafting, it just takes the fun parts of BOTW and highlights them. BOTW is jaw dropping and I find myself just hours walking around exploring and it's amazing but for fun factor IFR is it. It's a fantastic game!
this BOTW has so much rules it sucks the fun out of it. IFR feels like pure playground while BOTW feels like a school that happens to have a playground.
When I played ghost of Tsushima for the first time I though it was a good game and I enjoyed the story and the visuals a lot and then PS5 version came out and directors cut and I decided to go for platinum run on a hard difficulty and this is when I realized how great of a game Ghost of Tsushima really is. I am comparing the way the characters introduce you to the story similar but obviously not as deep as in the Witcher 3. See Jin Sakai was a rather quiet character, a man faced with the honorable samurai ways or stealthy but effective ninja approach to war and that was about it with his character he is cool chilled out dude who makes the right choices but the rest of the cast shine trough his relatively boring but not exactly boring personality. The combat is really well polished and the ability to approach it in many different ways and strategies make it really interesting like a true rpg. The hidden missions were decent and whoever is done the platinum trophy knows about the paying respect to the unseen ones which is an absolute rpg swag. But I can see where you coming from and I understand your point of view. That’s why im here I bought immortals when it came out but I still haven’t played it because the older I grow the more I value my time and try to only spend it in truly great experiences. Btw 30 years pass so quickly 😂 for the younger ones reading this comment please value your time it’s something you can never get back.
Wow Luke Stephens and his Australian counterpart Skill Up (or maybe Luke Stevens is Skill Ups American counterpart?) both releasing videos praising this terribly named game within 2 minutes of each other? Well ok Ubisoft you have my attention!
I think Ghosts of Tsushima was made to be a tribute to Kurasawa's film style rather than an engaging game. I 100%'d in 8 days with minimum ui on the hardest difficulty and found myself not in awe at my ability to play well but how well my gameplay looked without me playing well. As someone who is pretty good at not being inflamatory I think you'd actually make some good well thought out points about Ghosts you might not be so confident exist with your limited time but back to the game that actually brought me here. Fenyx looks cool and its got a nice art style that kinda makes me think of a 3d version of Son of Egypt. The world and game look like they belong together where as Odyssey felt disjointed putting God powers in a very otherwise grounded game universe. The resource bar looks really annoying as it constantly tries to track the character rather than lock itself in a static postion and size. Button prompts for an interaction even though they have a symbol to indicate the player press a known interaction button. Y GATHER is just extra clutter that undones the glow of the mushrooms and diamond image
played the demo. thought I was playing odyssey and even though i liked odyssey I couldn't bring myself to finish the demo because it felt like I've seen or played it all before..
I'm gonna be very surprised if this game ends up being better than ACIV, Origins, or FC3. I did not like Odyssey very much and have never played BotW, so I can not say that I look forward to it. I personally think a better title would have been "most innovative Ubisoft game" or "best new IP from Ubisoft" in a decade. But I'm sure I'm a bit biased towards those games, so what do I know?
10.40 I'm trying hard to finish Ghost of Tsushima now. Taking breaks playing and reading. It's everything they accused Ubisoft of, but somehow worse. I'm with you on the open world, but Ghost really, really is copy pasted. To a point where I'm making myself investigate the next exactly the same village. Odyssey is never like that, some buildings are, but no where near. Same with their junky story. And since I paid $50 I feel obligated to finish it. It feels like sort of another Zelda Ocarina clone, but somehow worse than it on many things. Their stealth for one is junky. It works sometimes, and is mostly discouraged. I'll get through it still in time...
I'm sorry, but Assassin's Creed Origins was not an innovation, it simply emulated mechanics that were done better 2 years prior in The Witcher 3. Assassin's Creed 2 was an innovation.
are you going to carry on with ghost of tsushima and finish it? cause i remember you saying you didnt enjoy days gone too much but ended enjoying it in the end, or ghost is a total bust for you 😅
My wife watches me play all my games and immortal Fenyx rising was her favorite by far (until we played Spider-Man) it was more of enjoyable backseat experience than the likes of horizon zero Dawn, the Arkham games, the last of us and the shadow of war games
I played far cry 3, after 4, primal, 5, and new dawn. I played it for 2 hours then deleted it. If I'd played it years ago, I'm sure I'd been impressed. It just felt hollow.
Literally looks like Immortals and Genshin were developed as the same game, but the assets were just reskinned, animations adjusted, and voice acting changed. This game is definitely meant to appeal to a wider western audience than Genshin... but Genshin is free to play and this is being pushed out as a full price next-gen game... No way am I paying that price tag even if I’m a little interested in it.
They have their differences Days gone is better for its attention to details, physics to things, and more realistic graphics Ghost of tsushima had a better story, artistic graphics, combat , no bugs , but it didn't have that brutal combat and the physics of dead bodies were non existent. But Ghost of tsushima is better for me because of its story and my love for Japanese history.
Fuck, you made me want to install Origins again I swear every time I see that world I want to jump back into it. I can only hope Valhalla is as good as that. I’m still quite cautious with Fenyx because I didn’t really like odyssey at all so a game by the same team following a similar formulae hadn’t really appealed to me until I played the stadia demo.
I really appreciate your opinion, even when the rest does not agree with you and I respect that alot, and that is why I usually trust in what you say, so in saying that, I have already pre-ordered this game and I hope it ends up being as good as we all Hope it to be, thanks for the great video's and keep staying true.
Holy crap, I thought I was the only person on the planet who just thought GOT was average, I swear if it was named AC:Tsushima it would have been shredded to pieces.
people want new UNIQUE IP's. this is a greek version of Breath of the wild. if i wanted to play that it would be worth getting the switch. Arkane's new loop game is unique and i hope it sells well, but it isnt an experience you can get anywhere else.
@@TheJCghost I meant that Breath of the Wild is only on the switch and if someone wanted to play it that bad, well it sucks but that game is only on one console. You are correct though in your implied assumption that my first sentence was complete ass.
idk how you like the new AC games but dont like ghost of tsushima? makes no sense. Tsushima is just a more refined version of those games with a better combat system. Im not a Sony shill either, im mainly an xbox guy but I do have a ps4 to play whatever exclusive titles pique my interest.
I completely agree with you dude, not specially on Immortals because i haven't played it yet obviously but my ogd is the anti-Ubisoft narrative strong on internet for no reasons. The truth is Ubisoft has been the most influencial and ripped off company this apst decade. Their styles of open world with questions marks, specifics repeted side activities and collectibles have been ripped off by soo many triple A open world, notably The Witcher 3 that everybody praises but even more all the Sony open world like Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-man or Ghost of Tsushima (which by the way i completely agree with you was a completely boring weaker rip off of AC). the reality is while so many people loves to circlejerk over how copy and paste Ubisoft games are, the devs from other studios lookes very screfully to anything they releases and take notes on any new cool features there is.
Imagine not enjoying Ghost of Tsushima, i absolutely adored the game haha but to each their own. Here's my hot take: Immortals Feny Rising is better than Breath of the Wild.
I have to disagree with you on this. Granted I haven't played the game, I think it looks the same as any other Ubisoft game. Saying GoT is not a great game just hurt me a lot. I think it was a beautiful game. Granted it had bugs and could have been better but I think it was above any other Ubisoft game!
Oh for sure he can have his opinions. I am just saying that it hurt that GoT wasn't good enough for him. And Like I said, I haven't played the game yet. So even my opinions can change
Looks promising, but seeing the same recycled dialogue animation sets that they used for the past 2 Assassin's Creed games is a bit jarring. I always thought the characters standing with their fists on their hips like some sort of victory/proud pose looked pretty unnatural, and seeing it again in this new IP is a bit disappointing.
yo can you please re-upload this vid with the background music turned down? it's soooo annoying. the topic you are talking about sounds very interesting but I swear I cannot watch more than 2 minutes of this.
Just remember, It's the "most original game ubisofts made in a decade". As if far cry 3 or... assassin's Creed origins came out within the same decade but you know...
I was gonna complain about how you’re a fan of open worlds games but don’t like Ghost of Tsushima; then I remembered I have that exact same opinion about Breath of the Wild. So I guess we’re even.
Mate you CAN NOT make such a convoluted intro about Ubisoft's management issues and not adress the harrassment, domination and downright brutality and narrow-mindedness of the most important executives... This is such a miss... You either talk about their management issues or not.
It's a decent game, but Ubisoft is doing their best to ruin it like with Assassins' Creed franchise. The start of the game was ok since I enjoyed the whole trading barbs between Zeus and Prometheus, then gradually it became a huge let down since: 1 - It is a recycled version of that trash Assassins' Creed Odyssey and the gems like Breath of the Wild, Fable and Kingdom of Amalur Reckoning. 2 - I was hoping Typhon should finish the Olympians since they're messed up. Greek mythology is plagued with sex, violence, death, and aberrances. They're selfish and have the biggest ego. I would be glad if Typhon did, but no Fenyx is a generic OP Karen. 3 - I hated the part when Hermes pushes Fenyx into doing his dirty work namely, the whole "essence" things for the Olympians. I enjoyed Aphrodite as a tree, Ares as a rooster or Hephaestus as a robot until Fenyx had to mess this up. Hephaestus was in a sense free from his burdens and hardships until Fenyx again ruins it. 4 - Boring, repetitive, everything looks the same. Lame voice acting. Lame humour. Save yourself the money and just replay the superior Breath of the Wild, Skyrim, God of War trilogy, Dragon Dogma or Kingdom of Amalur Reckoning. 5 - There’s nothing more boring than encountering the same enemies over and over again. Encountering the same enemies means we don’t have to worry about learning new attack patterns. I initially thought the boss battles were good, until I realized they were merely larger versions of an enemy type I’ve already seen! 6 - Fenyx is the Olympians' bitch who is the type who does as she's told without questioning their intentions or her own which is reviving the old habits. Never mind the cost. 7 - The old cliche about hero always wins. I was expecting something like Fenyx getting duped by Olympians, leading to a betrayal and then Fenyx would go Kratos on them plus I would at least see Medusa for once not always the villain as the media keep copying and pasting. 8 - That is a particularly bad example, but that tone is consistent throughout the events of the story. I found each and every character, from Fenyx themselves to Hermes and beyond, to be annoying and unlikeable. I hated Hermes' guts from the start. 9 - Instead of listening to Hermes about restoring Olympians, Fenyx should stand up and disagree. 10 - Ubisoft’s ridiculously named open-world action which lets Zeus off the hook. If you watched the film "Free Guy" featuring Ryan Reynolds, you'll see what Ubisoft, Bethesda, EA, Nintendo and Netherrealm Studios truly are. F*** Ubisoft. That's what it deserves! Those who played this trash are deaf, dumb and blind. That's why I favour God of War where Kratos eradicates Olympians (well except Aphrodite, Artemis, Demeter, Triton, etc...)
@@SuperBallani I'd be interested to hear why it's more repetitive than other open world games? I am quite tired of open world games myself, but i found Ghosts to have enough new mechanics and be fresh enough to engage me.
@@Elcapitaan5 Well because there aren't enough different side activities first, but more important the side activities are extremely shorts to do, like just finding a Shrine, you just have to press a button to have to upgrade. Cutting baboos ? just 3 combination of pressing button in a row, Haikus ? same, choose 3 sentences and that's it. Outside of that, a very big part of the game is go in that camp, kill the mongols, free the hostages and loot what you can, over and over and over again. Only the sacntuary that have a bit of puzzle climbing are a bit better but even that has been done better in other game, and the reward is just a collectibles that do nothing.
From the footage this looks like the most generic action RPG I've seen in a long time. Everything about it, from the forgettable title to the basic character design and horribly outdated graphics, makes it look like a cheap mobile knockoff of BotW, not a worthy competitor. I don't think you really explained why it should be seen as something more.
Finally! Someone else who admits Ghost of Tsushima is a very average game. It looks phenomenal, from a graphics standpoint. But the actual gameplay leaves much to be desired.
